Oh, Shenandoah… As the traditional folk song depicts, there’s nothing quite like the natural beauty of the rolling Shenandoah River, which winds through the misty Appalachians of West Virginia and Virginia. Not only does this region boast a rich history and incredible natural beauty, it’s also a fantastic destination for exciting year-round outdoor recreation. From hiking and mountain biking to spelunking and whitewater rafting, there’s no reason not to unleash your inner adventurer while vacationing in the Shenandoah Valley!
This stunning 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house sits directly on the bank of the Shenandoah River and is the perfect setting for a rejuvenating retreat with family or friends. Located on 10 private acres backing up to the George Washington National Forest, you’ll find this property quite secluded and surrounded by gorgeous, lush scenery. The home was just recently completed and features many upscale amenities, including a flat screen TV, library of DVDs, wireless internet access, stereo system, outside fire pit, 2 fireplaces, one of which is in the master bedroom, and a large kitchen, complete with all the necessary modern appliances and a center island, so there’s plenty of room for cooking and entertaining. During your downtime, you and your travel companions will have your choice of spaces to relax, from the comfortable family room with fireplace located next to the kitchen to the small library, which is a great place to curl up with a good book during lazy afternoons. There’s also an additional sitting room for relaxing and playing family games. When you sit on one of the 3 porches, you’ll get to enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains, river, and meadows. One of these porches is located next to the 2 bedrooms and can be used as a sleeping porch if need be. This area has an abundance of wildlife, so don’t be surprised if you see deer, otters, beavers, badgers, bald eagles, geese, ducks, an occasional bear, or other animals wander by outside!
You won’t have to go far to experience great outdoor fun - The kayaking, canoeing, tubing, and fishing right on the banks of the Shenandoah River within the property are awesome, and 4 kayaks are provided for your enjoyment. It’s a fisherman’s paradise right outside the back door on the North Fork of the Shenandoah! Make sure to take a hike through the George Washington National Forest from behind the property all the way to the top for spectacular sights of the Shenandoah Valley. Great home in a completely isolated location so beautifully quiet and the perfect retreat. Immaculate inside, kayaks provided and the river was perfect for cooling off. Highly recommended.
Beautiful home and view. Well equipped kitchen. I was able to cook with no problems. Everyone from great grandma to my three year old had a great time.
The home was comfortable and clean. It had an open concept layout, which was conducive to interaction. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking and eating implements. The setting was idyllic with the river in the backyard and the forest and the mountains in the front yard. We loved the back porch, overlooking the river. Our only complaint was that our stay was too short.
A hidden gem. A beautiful home nestled in the hills and overlooking the Shenandoah river. When we weren't swimming, kayaking, fishing or tubing, we were relaxing on the porches overlooking the river. The home was clean and well-maintained and had everything we needed to make our own meals. We also tried many of the local restaurants and highly recommend "Christina's" in Strasburg. We also visited a civil war battlefield in New Market, Shenandoah National Park, local wineries, a micro-brewery and even the "Route 11" potato chip factory. So much fun and so much to do. Looking forward to a return trip.
We had a very special week planned: 4 generations gathering together to re-connect, some of us hadn't seen each other in many years.
The home made a good plan one to be treasured. The floor plan, furnishings, decks, porch, grounds, and river make for countless opportunities to gather as a group, or find solitude when desired. The privacy afforded by the approach was just what we needed! I don't know that any of us fully knew how badly we needed to wall out the world for a few days until the property walled it out for us!
From VRBO, to the leasing company, to the owner: every encounter has been top flight. The owner takes a personal interest in the enjoyment of the occupant, and made us feel welcome, cared for, and confident that if anything did go wrong (and it did not!!) that it would be taken care of immediately.
On our last day, we sat around the kitchen recounting the week's events. We all agreed that the next time we stayed there, we'd probably eliminate a few day trips in favor of sticking around the property more. Yes; it is close to plenty to see, which makes it convenient, but it's just such a COOL place; we'd rather spend more time in it with each other.
The house was just as described and surpassed our expectations. A perfect location for a relaxing getaway. This property is a beautiful home located in a beautiful place. There is plenty to do within driving distance if you desire to get out. We were not wanting for anything except hangers for the closets to hang our clothes and some mirrors in the bedrooms would have been good... there were 7 women fighting for mirror space (-:
Other Activities: wine tasting, hot air ballooning, old fashioned drive in movie theatre, civil war sites
