Awesome place!

This was one of the nicest vacation homes I've ever stayed at.. Great location, beautiful view! Awesome kitchen and really cool bar area. Pretty much no complaints. The neighbor was a little rude and wish that there was a working outdoor grill. Other than that, everything was top notch!!

Wonderful family reunion location

The home was lovely, clean, spacious, and well-appointed. Even better than expected.

The kitchen and bar have everything you could need for entertaining. There are many areas for togetherness or solo time.

The front yard is large and well-kept with a great covered porch facing the lake. Plenty of outdoor seating. The views are wonderful from the lawn or from the upstairs balcony.

Inside the furniture was good quality and comfy.

We would definitely consider staying here again!

My thoughts on other reviewers' comments:

"Bugs" - the entire island gets Mayflies in early June every year. There was not a bug problem in the house.

Birds - plentiful (and messy in places) but we were never bothered by them.

Wi-Fi worked well the entire time.

Sherry was communicative before and during the stay. We made sure to have the place clean in time for check-out and there was no problem. Just be sure to read the contract details and ask her if you have any questions.

There were a few closets/cabinets marked "owner only" and this was fine. There was plenty of room to put our luggage.

Some travel tips: there is one bathroom with tub/shower downstairs. There is one full bathroom attached to one half-bathroom upstairs -- both inside the huge Master bedroom. This could be awkward if the people staying together are not family or close friends. The downstairs bathroom shower has minimal pressure and the water, while safe, has a strong sulfur odor. We recommended that folks shower in the phenomenal Master bathroom which has a great rainshower and no bad odor.

The upstairs non-master bedroom will get hot if the door is left open due to the high ceilings of the common room. However, if you close the door the bedroom will get good AC. Our bed was very comfy.

The downstairs small bedroom has a twin (and trundle underneath). It is perfect for a child or single traveler.

Sound travels well so keep this in mind if sharing the rental with several romantic couples or children. We used the large floor fan as white noise.

FYI: We brought bottled water for cooking, drinking, and brushing teeth. (We have been coming to the island for decades and do this no matter where we stay.)

It's a great space and we recommend it highly. Enjoy your stay on Put-in-Bay!

Profiting off damage deposit & Poor Communication with Property Manager

I am one that never complains or leaves reviews, but I thought I would in this case of buyers beware. The property manager was extremely unprofessional with me. There were a couple cases where I would leave voicemails when she already had my money, and would take several days to get back with me. The place was spacious for a big group. It also had a great location. The bugs were extremely bad though. Also everyone needed to shower in the top shower, because the water coming from the bottom shower faucet smelled so bad. My only other problem with my stay which made my poor rating was she took my whole damage deposit. Which fyi is way above the amount it should be which she cashes prior to the stay. One of my friends vomited in the bottom restroom. Which we wiped down the best we could, and she charged us an obscene amount. She also charged us for driving a golf cart on the lawn. We mopped the floors in the morning, did all of the dishes, and wiped all of the counters down as well. We stripped the linens off the beds, and started a load of laundry before leaving. Which is what it states to do within the contract. She then charged us for doing the laundry and a professional cleaning for too. We did not leave this place in bad shape.

Owner's Response: In response to Alex, with a witness and pictures he left the place a mess. We had to replace some things and extra cost to lack of respect for the property. We have to let tenants know that we are serious about the property and that is why we get the damage deposit. We did not profit from it we had to use to put towards the extra cost for how he left the place. The manager responded in a timely manner. Complaining about bugs on the island shows the character of what we were dealing with. We have no control over bugs and we by far did not ask him or his guests to trash the place so we can work harder and replace items and call in extra help to clean carpets and such. We gave him an itemized list and he wants to deny the fact his group trashed it and are not welcome back. Sherry Cooner

Nice Location, Significant Issues

This property is in a good location with a great view of the lake and has some updated amenities. Unfortunately, the experience was diminished by dysfunctional equipment, excessive number of birds and unresponsive/ incompetent management. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed the Wi-Fi was inoperable. We notified Sherry, and her response (after telling us to unplug it and plug it back in, which we had already done, having two in our group highly computer savvy) was to give us the technical support number. This was inappropriate, as obviously we have very little account information. However, they still ran remote diagnostics and determined they would need to be on-site to fix the issue. I notified Sherry of this July 3 at 9:43 AM and she did not respond in any format until July 6 at 11:34 AM. Long story short, no Wi-Fi the entire week and no legitimate or serious effort to rectify the problem. Other issues included two of the three toilets needed plunging consistently (over 20 times total); burned out lights; dirty and wet laundry left in the dryer. One of the refrigerators in the bar area does not seal properly, and leaks consistently; the other one is either a freezer or does not cool enough to use, so it is basically inoperable. Obvious signs that this property had not been well taken care of or prepared for our stay. Of the upstairs bathrooms, both are in the master bedroom which is not only odd, but inconvenient. This means that whoever is staying in the second bedroom upstairs must go into the master bedroom to use "their" bathroom. Outside would be excellent- except for the birds. There are dozens if not hundreds of birds constantly flying around the decks due to the fact they have let them build nests all over the house. There is so much bird residue on the one deck that it is totally unusable- we didn't use it once. There is a nest above the door on the upstairs deck in which residue comes directly onto the handle of that door, and is caked on. There is a hand-written note on a copy of the contract inside the house that states "Birds come to the island too!". Well this is an obvious and sophomoric statement, and an admission that they know this is an issue. But the fact that birds exist doesn't mean you have to let hundreds of them make the rental property their home. There are environmentally friendly ways of dealing with this; if the note were accurate it would say: we value the birds experience of these decks as much or more than our renters.

Owner's Response: In response to John. We did address the WI-FI timely. It worked when we left on the July 1, he text me at 3:43 and I responded at 3:48 within 5 minutes. And then called the technical support. With responding with him on what they said and giving him the technical support number. With not being present on the property there was nothing I could do at that point. John would have to do the steps they were asking to get it analyzed correctly. He told me the technician was coming on Monday. There was nothing I could do over the holiday weekend. With him then texting me the technician did not show up on Monday July 6 so I did respond then I will contact them. The Technician was scheduled for July 8, the day he checked out. In my experience over the past three years in this rental once a guests does not get something important to them they will pick the place apart. It is not a palace and does have maintenance being on the lake. The birds are purple martins and they do eat the bugs. They are a protected bird in Ohio. Which limits what you can do to alleviate them. We have knocked down the nests and they build bigger stronger and more of them almost to say we rule! This year has been the worst! We have limited time during the season for extra items to be done since we have been booked every day since June 1 with 5 hour increments of work time. We do wash down the patios and decks with blowing away any debris. The water is well water and if it sits and not used it will smell sulfuric. We have two filtering systems and have it tested monthly. The tests come back the water is safe. When addressing the issues with John over the phone I got the I do not know I was not staying in that area and not using them?? We put in the contract about maintenance issues out of our control. We do the best we can. We too have stayed at places in Florida with issues but make the best of our vacation despite any issues. It is the nature of renting another property. We do offer discounted rates for the next stay and try to accommodate our guests. Some guests just resist all that you offer and seem to not be happy no matter what you try. It is a shame the highlight of the stay was the WI-FI. There is much more beauty to this place than the WI-FI and television! The laundry that was left in the dryer was rags and rugs and should of been dry. It was just another item of complaint because of not being able to get the WI-FI running. Sherry

Amazing Views, Great Living Space

Hopefully this will be informative and helpful! I rarely write reviews on anything. I'm not a super picky person :)

Explanation of living space and bedrooms: There is a huge open great room that is most of the downstairs (main living area, side living area). The kitchen is totally open to this space. There are two inside eating areas.

Bedrooms: On the first floor there is a small bedroom with a king bed (great views of the lake), and next to that there is another small bedroom that has a twin bed with a trundle under it (no view of lake). Right next to those bedrooms was a small bathroom with a tub/shower. Upstairs there is a small bedroom with a queen bed (no view of lake) and whoever stays in this room will need to use downstairs bathroom. Also upstairs is a HUGE beautiful master bedroom. Great views of the lake from the master bedroom. In the master there is is a huge master bath and another half bath.

Pros: After searching a LOT for a nice rental house on Put-in-Bay that was on the water, I do believe that this is the best rental on the island. The property location was PERFECT! You can swim and play in the lake right from the back yard. Lots of great views from the house!! Lots of outdoor seating! Three large decks on the back of the house. A big patio in the the front of the house. The main living space is great for a big group!! There are so many different little areas to sit, relax, read, eat, cook, drink, play games, etc! The kitchen is great. Fully stocked with just about everything you could need. Sherry has been great to work with.

Cons: First, the first floor bathroom was not great. The water that came from the faucet and the shower smelled VERY strongly like rotten eggs. We tried using it several times and ended up giving up and only showering in the master bedroom and brushing teeth in the kitchen. The shower/bathtub knob (on first floor) kept falling off. The decks outside are great, BUT I think that we counted over 20 birds nests in the rafters of the deck. Birds EVERYWHERE, and bird poop EVERYWHERE! One of the strangest things was that in every closet, drawer, and cabinet there were just tons of stuff thrown and crammed in. It was hard to find any space to unpack or set things. I have stayed in lots of rented houses or condos and I have never seen a house with so much of the owners stuff everywhere.

Because of the location, views, and great living space we would rent this house again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your constructive review. We will address the issues. As far as the set up of things: It was set up for there personal family vacation spot. With her husband Wil passing in 2011 with ALS she decided it could be a vacation rental. We have cleared out many things and will keep plugging away on getting the items not used any more or the personal items. She does stay on occasion but we will address and give the guests more of the space for there items. We have to store linens and such which does take closet and drawer space in some of the rooms. Best Rental on PIB!

This is our 8th annual girls trip to put in bay and by far the nicest. We (6 - 30 something's) stayed in the island club 5 years, then to an A frame home on Meechen and this place put them all to shame. Clean, large, relaxing...high end appliances and Sherry was so easy to work with. Because of this rental I've considered bringing my young family here as well. The upstairs was hot considering the height of the ceilings, but the air conditioning was great. We spent almost all out time there out on the back porch looking at the lake or out on the second floor deck. We will definitely stay at this place again. The pictures don't do it justice! The location is beside the airport but that didn't affect our stay at all. Everything is close so take advantage of this great rental next time you're in PIB!
