The cottage is a beautiful, architect designed and planned vacation home. It features heart of pine floors recycled from an 1880s cotton mill in Lancaster County. The centerpice of the house, is a two story, fieldstone fireplace with a hearth for setting and toasting marshmallows, on a cool fall evening. The upstairs rec room has a full size pool/ping pong table and foosball.
The interior features massive Ponderosa Pine log beams from Montana and a custom made walnut, dovetailed dining table that seats 12. The cottage sits on a 1 3/4 acre lot surrounded on three sides by water. In the front of the lot is a 100 ft fixed dock with a covered gazebo and a floating dock/swimming platform. The gazebo has buit-in benches with a hammock and ceiling fan to enjoy the sunsets across the water. The lot also has a small boat ramp to launch your wave runner or a small boat.
- Well, once again, we have come home from your Lakehouse with many happy memories! Everything looked even better than we had remembered. As we sat around the breakfast table on Monday morning, our 5 year old grandson had a great idea. He said 'This was so much fun! Can we come back again?' He loves your property, too. (2012 - SC)
The Best get Away!!! (Jacksonville,FL)
- Amazing! Gorgeous cottage, gorgeous lake! The property was so well cared for and the cottage was beautiful. The owner was great and had everything available that we would have needed. Can't wait to visit again.
Wonderful Place for the Family (FL)
- The lake is perfect for small children to swim in (ours were 1, 3, 5 & 7)--with a very nice beach area and shallow swimming place. The property was clean and well maintained. The owner was helpful and friendly and very easy to work with. We would definitely return.
Great Family Reunion Venue (Mesa, AZ)
- Our recent visit to the 'Lake House' was most relaxing. There is plenty of room for everyone in your party to have 'their own space'. We could not have been more happy with our choice of venues! We loved our visit to the Cedar Cottage on the Lake.
Beautiful House and View! (Houston, TX)
- The house is just beautiful, very well maintained and decorated. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. Our stay was exactly what we needed. We spent our days relaxing outside, rocking on the porch, enjoying fires by the lake at night. It was a nice place to spend a family vacation and I hope to return for many years to come.
Our family bought this lot on Lake Wylie in 1951 as a weekend getaway and in 1993 consulted with architect Reg Narmour to design a home with a Nantucket cedar shake exterior, a log beam interior with the feel of a Maine fishing lodge. It is a wonderfully peaceful, cottage for you and your family to enjoy during each season.

We're 15 minutes south of the Charlotte airport (which is why 2 of our 5 neighbors are airline pilots) but it feels like you're in the nearby Smoky Mountains. For our family it's been the ultimate urban escape on the banks of the historic Catawba River which has been dammed to create Lake Wylie. We're located on a peninsula with 270 degrees of water out of the main porch. Fishing, canoeing and bird watching are favorite activities.
We had an amazing family vacation at The Cedar Cottage! We met my brother and his family there for a mini family reunion. Other than a couple of trips to town for groceries and fishing poles, we stayed at The Cottage for 6 days. We saw no reason to leave this little piece of paradise.
Our children had unending fun swimming, fishing, kayaking, and roasting marshmallows on the fire pit. Each afternoon they read books on the hammock. They did enjoy the foosball table, pool, and ping pong upstairs when the adults needed to be indoors.
We cooked on the grill most nights, and other nights we made use of the kitchen. We enjoyed the fire pit each night, roasting marshmallows and watching the sun set and enjoying the fireflies.
The Cottage has loads of history with the family and it feels like they've invited you to join in their little peace of heaven!! The property is incredible, with views of Lake Wylie from so many angles, it's hard to imagine a better spot to build a home. The craftsmanship throughout the home is superb. We feel lucky that we were able to rent the home for our little vacation!
We even decided to extend an additional rather than head back home. I highly recommend staying at The Cedar Cottage. I can't imagine a nicer lake home!!
I rented the Cedar Cottage so that our extended family could enjoy a long weekend as we celebrated our daughter's college graduation, and we couldn't have been happier. The cottage is actually a spacious home with log-cabin touches, with plenty of bedrooms and space for family. My wife's parents joined us as well, and having two very nice bedrooms on the main floor was really great. The kitchen was perfect for us... we prepared brunches and dinners over the weekend in the well-appointed kitchen (plenty of utensils, pots, pans, etc., plus a barbecue grill outside). The location on the lake was just absolutely wonderful... we relaxed on the dock every evening, made s'mores at the fire pit, and found plenty of time for bean-bag toss and cruising the lake on the kayaks before catching perfect sunsets. Grocery stores are only about 5 miles away, and other Charlotte-based amenities were reasonably close. Best of all, the cottage felt like home, almost like we were house-sitting for the owners while on vacation... the cottage has so many "family" touches throughout. I can see our family returning to the Cedar Cottage again and again.
The cottage was just what we were looking for, it had a very open concept. it was great to be able to visit with all our guests even when they were upstairs playing pool, or foosball. the kitchen was perfect to cook and entertain, the table was large enough to seat 12. everything was clean and comfortable. the boys had a great time fishing and sitting by the fire. the neighborhood was quiet and friendly. The cottage was close enough to town to get an uber driver and needed supplies. it was very relaxing and we would definitely rent the cottage again. the owner was attentive and accommodating.
we loved sitting on the dock and watching the sunset. we had a great time, looking forward to next year.
I rented this place for my family to come in town for my wedding. They loved it and had a great time. We plan to come back during the summer! The cabin was great and in a peaceful location. Thanks Steve!
My family stayed at the Cottage for a week and had such a wonderful time. The Cottage is roomy, with plenty of space for my oversized family (with 8 children, it is so very hard to find accommodations that fit us comfortably!) and tastefully and touchingly decorated with personal family photographs and artwork. The entire living room and kitchen is walled in windows looking out onto the lake, which provides many different beautiful and relaxing views from all angles. We enjoyed watching the blue herons fish and the mist rise off the lake in the mornings, and the amazing sunsets in the evenings. There was no lack of things to do - we spent the week playing pool, foosball, and pingpong, relaxing in the hammock and front porch rocking chairs, swimming, kayaking, fishing, and cooking s'mores in the firepit. We were never bored, all without having to leave the property! It was truly the epitome of a perfect vacation.
Steve, the co-owner, was so personable and helpful every time we spoke to him, which made the entire experience all the more pleasant.
We couldn't stop talking about what a wonderful time we had, and we definitely hope to return again!
My husband and I rented this house during the week, as a vacation spot on Lake Wylie, before picking up our sons from Camp Thunderbird (we live in Atlanta). The house affords spectacular views of the lake from almost every room, and the lake in this area is calm and perfect for recreation. We rented kayaks from the owner, and were able to explore the nearby coves. Once camp was over, our family rented a pontoon boat (brand new fleet this year) from the nearby Tega Cay marina, and we were able to cruise the lake and get a close up view of Camp Thunderbird from the water. The house is beautifully furnished, has a well equipped kitchen, and the game room upstairs in the loft was a bonus. We were also entertained by the UNC ski team, who practiced and performed several nights around 6pm on the lake, right in front the house. We can't wait to get back!!
Lake Wylie is a beautiful lake with an approx. 350 mile shoreline, located about 25 minutes south of Charlotte. We are off of Exit 88, I-77S.The Cottage is located on Torrence Creek (a great cove for sking) just to the east of Tega Cay. Fishing is wonderful for the kids with bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Jet skis, boats and pontoon boats are available from vendors on the lake. The US National Whitewater Center is about 25 minutes away (intersection of I-85 and I-485)on the shore of the Catawba River. The site was the location for the 2012 US Olympic Trial in kayaks. The site has whitewater rafting, mountain biking, zip lines, high ropes course, canopy tours and hiking. Also, the Carowinds Amusement Park is about 15 minutes from the Cottage. The Park has wonderfully scary rides and a huge water park, that will be enjoyed by children of all ages!
The Charlotte area has a number of other activities for the visitor: Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, Billy Graham Library, Discovery Place, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Charlotte is also home to a number of sports teams: NFL - Carolina Panthers, NBA - Charlotte Bobcats, NASCAR - Charlotte Motor Speedway, AAA - Charlotte Knights Baseball and the Charlotte Checkers Hockey.
