At the upper tip of the small and lushly overgrown rocky peninsula, right next to the sea, stands a family-friendly, colonial-style wooden house. Around it: lush, tropical green. Palm, mango, orange, and papaya trees wave in the wind. Nothing obstructs the view of the Caribbean Sea, which changes colours just as fast as the clouds move over the coast. With less light, the water turns grey or olive; when the sun shines, however, it shines azure or turquoise blue, just like in holiday magazines. The waves brake rushing on the shallow reef, after which they roll ashore gently. Watching this unique spectacle makes those sitting on Bolt Hole's terrace feel like having a first-row luxury box.
Well-being, letting go and diving into the Caribbean holiday world start with a cordial welcome by Donna and Marcia. All year round, a 4-people team takes care of the wellbeing of our guests and the house and garden maintenance. It is a garden for discovering, surrounded by an enchanting and continuous change of colour and wild beauty with a rolling sea in the background. The house itself, being a simple wood construction, adapts perfectly to the natural setting. The brightly painted rooms are all spacious; bedrooms are fitted with their own bathrooms. An old and proven ventilation system constantly provides fresh air; air-conditioning is not needed in this house. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms provide some enjoyable extra cooling. Although the authentic-style equipment is adapted to the simple architecture, the whole of the villa's characteristics and fittings make it a first-class and luxurious lodging.
Apart from the house, the roofed veranda with its seawater pool is a real eye catcher, as it offers an unobstructed view of the open sea. Here, or on the adjacent sitting or lying accommodations, is where life takes place from breakfast until dinner by candlelight in the warm Caribbean air. The private jetty for docking and diving and the sandy beach are protected from high waves by a reef. Within the reef, or outside of it, you can accompany your snorkelling friends with a kayak or a standing board...
Next to Villa Bolt Hole, on the same large ground, sits the cosy Cottage building, offering the same architecture and decoration style. It has 2 bedrooms with private bathrooms, a living/dining room and a roofed veranda, comfortably offering space to 4 people. In the small kitchen, you can prepare a first morning coffee or an afternoon cup of tea. From the veranda, guests enjoy a wonderful view of the private beach and the open sea. The Cottage can be rented either together with the villa or separately. It is equally suitable for short and long stays. You can even rent it for several weeks or months.

About Daniel Eugster & Erika Thorsteinsen-Suter
We live and work in Switzerland. A couple of years ago, Daniel moved to Jamaica due to a business request. The first couple of years, with 3 or 4 times in Kingston, were purely business related. However, in 2012, exploring the rest of this Caribbean dream island began, and we stayed in Bolt Hole for the first time during a holiday when the owner (also a Swiss) informed us that Bolt Hole was to be sold... So, now we are the happy and proud owners of our own little paradise in Jamaica. We go on holiday there 2 or 3 times a year, and we want to share this one-time experience, during which relaxation and a pulsating joy of life are very close to one another, with as many people as possible.

Why Daniel Eugster & Erika Thorsteinsen-Suter chose Port Antonio
At home, we get our joy from a diverse professional life and a diversity of engagements. We love to 'move'! To be able to keep this movement going long term, we also need time for resting and recharging. This is possible in Jamaica; one can get frustrated over the slowness and deceleration, or one can discover a strength in it. Bolt Hole is our place of strength where we can relax and unwind, no matter if we are staying for just 5 days or for 3 weeks. Portland is Jamaica's 'green lung'; here, it rains a bit more than in other regions of the island. The plant diversity is as captivating as the mountain and water world. With the Blue Mountains (where the best coffee of the world is grown) in the back, Port Antonio was able to keep its authentic charm of small Caribbean banana-harbour town - far away from the large tourist masses.

Spacious, comfortable, clean, picturesque, and perfect for our multi-generational family vacation
The property was an excellent choice for our 3 generation family vacation. The bedrooms with their own bathrooms in the villa and cottage provided ample space for our group of 13 to spread out. The grounds are gorgeous and the views are spectacular. We made use of the outdoor seating for our meals and evening gatherings. The salt water pool was a big hit as well as the beach and the pier were enjoyed by all. We cannot say enough about the wonderful smells coming from the kitchen. The meals on the veranda were scrumptious and much appreciated by the group. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. A short walk to the grocery store was handy for purchasing drinks and snacks (with credit card). We also enjoyed our outings to Reach Falls, Frenchman's Cove, Rio Grande Rafting, and to Ocho Rios to tour the Green Grotto Caves and the Dunn's River Falls and beach. Port Antonio is less tourist driven and prefers Jamaican dollars. Ocho Rios and Kingman more readily accepted US dollars. We had pre-arranged for transportation with a mini-bus/van for our entire group which ensured a relaxing vacation without having to worry about driving and directions and a big plus - we were all in one vehicle. A big thank you to the owners, staff, bus driver, tour coordinator, and residents of Jamaica.
We loved our stay at Bolt Hole. Daniel, the owner, was very easy to work with and super helpful. The house is actually much larger than the photos led us to believe. We were pleasantly surprised. The photos did not do the house justice. The house overall did look and feel like the photos but was better in person. The real gem though is the staff. They were in a word...awesome. And with Donna's cooking I'm not really sure why one would eat out at all. We did eat out but concluded that while we enjoyed our meals out they simply weren't as yummy as what Donna prepped for us back at the house.
Big thumbs up all around.
Salt Water Heaven
This villa is most impressive. The landscape is incredibly beautiful, peaceful and private. A huge thank you to the sweetest staff ever -- Errol, Daniel, Kareen, Donna. They made our vacation truly unforgettable.
Easy access to town or any of the nice attractions, grab a route taxi right outside. The view of the ocean was phenomenal. The food was great. Totally recommend.
Beautiful house with character and style close to all local attractions.
Bolt Hole is the perfect place for complete relaxation. Although it's just outside of the town of Port Antonio, it feels secluded and private. It's simply and tastefully decorated and very comfortable. All of the staff were absolutely wonderful, and Donna kept us well fed with delicious Jamaican dishes. We spent our time exploring the reefs, swimming, snorkeling, and daydreaming. Our favorite part of the villa was the saltwater infinity pool -- we barely left it! We totally loved it and can't wait to return....
