About Cathy Morgan, Your Time in Ireland SR

Dear Guests, myself and my family returned to Ireland in recent years having lived overseas ourselves for many years. We enjoyed many worldwide trips & travels over those years, and experienced firsthand the pro’s & con’s of hotels versus short stay apartments. Hotels can be great, but! we realised, how much we better enjoyed ourselves when we felt thoroughly ‘At Home’ on these travels. Putting all of this into good practice in our beautiful Galway & Dublin short-rental options, we are extremely conscious of always offering this pleasure to the weary traveller – a seriously welcoming home-from-home environment - for 3 nights only or 3+ leisurely weeks! Working hard on the things that count – including fresh, luxurious bed linens & duvets and beds fully made up, fridge freshly stocked with Useful Food Items, and our useful local guides - you can so quickly settle in and get going with the many wonderful activities, explorations and small adventures awaiting you on a visit to Ireland, including lively engagement with everyone you meet on your tips and tours...

Cathy Morgan, Your Time in Ireland SR purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Cathy Morgan, Your Time in Ireland SR chose County Galway

Our deluxe short stay options are just 2 to 3 minutes away from the liveliest quarters of Town – and yet so peaceful and quiet for a great night’s sleep. The wider city is alive with visitors, restaurants, cafe-bars and many very unique & special traditional Irish pubs and live music - you will have made an excellent choice by staying with us on The Crescent.

Galway is a great town! - the capital city of Connacht is a bustling and superbly lively university city that sits at the end of Lough Corrib - Lake & River - as it wends its way to the Atlantic Ocean. Long a wonderful and busy merchant town with a serious maritime tradition and backdrop, Galway’s trading history can be seen in town canals, water breaks & salmon weirs, pier heads, and sea-side promenades and walkways, plus rich ancient woodlands that survive in precious pockets around the town. Our location on The Crescent is part of this older world of Galway going back to the early 1830’s - when trains ran to Clifden, and a tramline ran from Eyre Square via The Crescent and out to the seaside promenades of Salthill. Our apartments are located in an elegant tall period house there of some 180 years standing, and we do everything we can to maintain the ambience of this lovely old period house accompanied by many beautiful and contemporary features of today.

What makes this apartment unique

- Beautiful environment to settle into quickly, beds all freshly made up; fridge stocked and generous Welcome Basket of groceries.

- excellent local shops & supermarket just 2 mins away;

- excellent shopping in lively town centre just 5 minutes away;

- many interesting walks through town and surrounding places;

- abundance of excellent Restaurants from the end of Sea Road - just 2 mins away!

- abundance of warm & inviting Irish pubs & live music from the end of Sea Road through to the two Dominick Streets, Quay Street and surrounding Latin Quarter - all just 2 to 3 minutes away!

- fabulous walks to Salthill Village and along seaside promenades;

- Abundance of wonderful trips & tours to book into;

- suberb Golf courses a short drive away: Galway Golf Links 5 mins; Barna GC 10 mins; Galway Bay 20 mins; Athenry Parkland 30mins; Ballinahinch 1 hour, etc.

Great location, safe and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in a rainstorm, not unusual for Galway in March, and the welcome we received made us feel so good! Liz gave us a tour of all of the units, and each is very nice. Three of us shared Silver Teal and we were extremely comfortable. Two large bedrooms, large bathrooms and a huge kitchen including a washer and dryer, made the stay especially convenient. (I try to be a light packer, and found it helpful to do laundry mid-week.) The unit is close to everything, and we felt like "locals" after a week. With all of the wonderful restaurants and historic sites in Galway, we were out all day every day wandering around town and enjoying the ambiance. We found a good taxi tour driver through the Irish Tourism office so we were able to take two tours of Cliffs of Moher and Connemara (we did not rent a car). It was great to come home every night to our "home" in Galway. They have units for almost any size group. Thanks again, Liz and the Galway crew!

Fabulous Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Multi-generational family visiting Galway to meet relatives for the first time and see cottage where great grandmother lived before immigrating to the US. We rented the Silver Acres apartment for my 70 year old parents which was basically on the ground floor. However they would have been fine with the stairs. The rest of us stayed up in the roomy Silver Teal. It met all of our needs. The welcome basket lasted all week...and was very tasty. We did not rent a car and was able to walk everywhere in town with no problems. Liz was great. She communicated before the arrival for logistics and with check-in the day of arrival. I'm actually writing this review now as I had forgotten to do it and received a "Happy Thanksgiving" email from Liz that really was a nice touch and reminder of our trip. I would highly recommend this rental and would stay again on my next visit. Ireland was absolutely beautiful both in scenery and people.

A Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of 4 ladies in our 60's visiting Ireland for the first time. We stayed at The Silver Teal for 4 nights. We were met at the apartment by Liz. She gave us a tour of the premises and shared some recommendations for places to eat and tours that she felt we would find interesting.

On our first day there was a shortage of hot water. We suspected that the apartment has been empty prior to our arrival as there was plenty for the subsequent 3 days. The beds were comfortable; plenty of towels and bed linens. A large basket of food was a surprise. The kitchen is large and very well equipped. We found the entire apartment very comfortable and welcoming.

Within walking distance we found The Crane Pub. In the upstairs space there was a jam session every night beginning around 10 or 10:30. This was awesome! There were recitations, singing in the Irish language and musicians from around the world who came together. It is a very small space ; very lively but when someone decided to sing the entire place fell silent.... So respectful and appreciative .

The apartment is in an ideal location (we did not rent a car); the pictures are accurate and we found it to be clean. We would recommend this apartment to anybody who does not have issues with mobility. The stairs leading to the apartment might be difficult for persons who have physical challenges.

Quirky, But Right

  • 4 of 5

Silver Teal Apartment is a delightful spot, close enough to all the Galway pedestrian action, but at enough of a remove that it's quiet and serene. The apartment has a slightly odd layout (the two bathrooms are side by side down a half-flight of stairs), but when you think about it...why not? Liz was attentive and full of excellent suggestions for eating and entertainment (try the fabulous Kai just up the street). There was a veritable feast of towels, thoughtful selection of food items for our initial consumption, and the beds were incredibly comfy. Hot water on demand! And probably the best washer/dryer I've found in Ireland/Britain (notoriously slow and feeble for North Americans!) The apartment itself is spacious (we were a family of 4 with teens, plus my husband's brother), and we never felt as though we were on top of each other. Plus, we had a family dinner for 9 people at the massive dining table! You do have to walk up, but we were in western Ireland to go hiking, so we weren't bothered in the least, but it might be an issue for folks with mobility issues. The kitchen in general was well-appointed (though I could never find the frying pan and a wok isn't quite the same). Word of warning, particularly for North American drivers used to left side steering wheels and left side driving (oh, and ample roadways): the passage to the back parking space is TIGHT. Keep as close to the wall as you can on the driver's side, and you should be fine. Also, tuck in your side mirrors prior to attempting the narrow passage!

A Gem of an Apartment in Galway City

  • 5 of 5

The Silver Teal Apartment in Galway more than lived up to our expectations. Having previously spent 4 nights in the Dublin Cork St. Apartment managed by the same person, we were not disappointed. The bedrooms were spacious and there were two well-appointed bathrooms which was great, since we were two couples travelling together. As in Dublin, the welcome basket was a delightful surprise and the fridge was already stocked with essentials that made grocery shopping unnecessary. Having a washer and dryer was a great benefit after spending a week at B&B's. The property was clean, bright, and very quiet at night. It was nice to be able to park the rented car for t he 3 days we were there as all the city centre attractions were within easy walking distance, as was the lovely waterfront. Liz was an amazing guide, providing us with dining and entertainment tips. We would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a place to put down roots for a few days and explore a wonderful city with a fascinating history. Our favourite pub was Ward's pub, a short walk from the apartment where we heard the best traditional music of our entire 14 day trip. If we ever have the good fortune to return to Galway City, we will certainly book the Silver Teal Apartment again.

Still Great!

  • 5 of 5

Well, my fourth visit to your lovely vacation home did not disappoint. I so enjoy climbing the stairs after a day of visiting the local sights (this year was able to take my friend Brian to the Aran Island of Inishmore with fantastic weather; wonderful!) to find myself happily ensconced in the Crescent. Your welcome, Cathy, was warm and generous as ever (what a basket!). What I so enjoy are the possibilities a stay at your home provides. As other reviewers note, there are wonderful restaurants nearby (Cava, Rouge) and great pubs (The Crane, Monroe's). But one can also cook. I learned how to make Aunt Mona's (family from Ballina in Mayo) bacon and cabbage this trip and was able to prepare a pretty good reproduction of the dish in your kitchen. Delicious! Next year I believe I will be traveling with my Mother and, alas, at her age she will not be able to climb the stairs to Silver Teal. But, hey-ho, you have solved that situation! I can stay at the wonderful Coach House! When you gave me a tour of this newly renovated apartment I thought this would be perfect for our family and a wonderful place to stay. So nicely appointed! Under floor heating! If it isn't in the Coach House you probably don't need it anyway. What is most important is that one still gets to stay in this location; the Crescent is a fabulous place to begin exploring Galway. Just a few minutes walk from everything! The Coach House looks to be a fantastic place to stay and I know my mother will love it. As much as I've enjoyed my many stays at Silver Teal. What more can one ask? Look forward to seeing you, Declan and family next year! Keep well, Ed
