About Anne Newman
We first fell in love with Kauai during our family's first visit in May, 1992. While my husband insisted we couldn't possibly leave our business for a two week vacation, I planned a week on Napili Bay on Maui and a second week on the South Shore of Kauai. In the middle of that second week, we ventured up to the North Shore. I can still remember the feeling as we first arrived at Hanalei Bay. 'Ahh, this is it!' I proclaimed, and, for us, it has remained so. The beauty of the Bay was so stunning it felt surreal. The lush green mountains were lined with waterfalls and the Bay seemed to stretch on forever. There was hardly anyone on the beach and no hotels down on the Bay. It felt as if we had gone back in time to the 'Old Hawaii' of my dreams. ...Plantation style homes dotting the beachfront with lots of wide open spaces... By 1996, we knew we would always want to come to Hanalei and we started looking to buy a home. We started renting the home that is now Paulele, but it was not for sale. We looked for 3 years at just about everything that came up for sale in Hanalei, but didn't like anything as much as this house. 'We need to trust', I told my husband. 'Have faith that if it's meant to be, it will happen'. Well, it did. Without ever going on the market, the previous owners finally succumbed to our persistence and sold us the home in 1999. We named it 'Paulele' which means to believe, have faith and trust. In Hanalei, magic happens. Come visit. We hope you enjoy our home and Hanalei as much as we do.

Why Anne Newman chose Hanalei
At Paulele, the beach is always just a few steps away any time of day. Whether an early morning stroll, a mid-day swim or surf, or a gorgeous sunset, it's all right out in front of you. If you need groceries or want to treat yourself to a dinner out, no need to get in the car. Just walk into town and it's all there. We love our location for these and many reasons!
What makes this House unique
We hope you enjoy the activities that we've offered right at Paulele. We love shuffleboard, horseshoes, bocce ball, badminton and croquet, so we have all of them right there for you to enjoy in our fantastic yard. Do you love to read? I do, so you'll find a bookshelf waiting for you. Plenty of deck space, both sunny and covered, for you to relax and a bamboo enclosed hot water shower that we built ourselves are other nice features. And can anyone really get away without internet? It's there if you need it!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Loved the house and location to the beach. Most of all it was equipped to the hilt! Only draw back was the heat. Not sure it is always this hot in August but it was unbearable in the house during the day. Maybe some sort of exhaust fan would help.
A superb stay
In a word, the property and its owner, Anne, are: thoughtful.
Every little detail is well thought out and mindful of nearly any type of vacationer. We were two families (4 kids) staying for 10 days and had a GREAT time exploring the island with this lovely house as our home base. It's spacious, comfortable, clean, and really well stocked with anything needed to relax and enjoy your time on Kauai.
Anne is super helpful and communicative and even checked in periodically to see if everything was a-ok. Indeed, it was. We loved playing shuffleboard, cooking dinners at the house, and frequenting the beach and the town's restaurants and shops - just a few minutes' walk from the house.
Lastly, for those first-timers to Kauai (we were) a piece of advice: bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper and enjoy sleeping past 4am. Roosters abound.
Two Thumbs Up!
From start to finish, this was a dream property! The owner was accommodating in every way and even helped us think through sleeping arrangements since we were traveling with little ones. Access to beach and town was great with provided bikes, and strollers but we mostly walked. I highly recommend Paulele House (and already have, in fact!).
Heaven on Earth
We felt like we hit the jackpot staying at the Paulele home in Hanalei. There is so much to rant and rave about! I searched for over 6 months before deciding on the Paulele home and man, we are even more convinced there was no better choice for our group! The location is absolutely perfect! The 3 minute walk to the beach is on the quietest part of the beach. It felt like we had paradise all to ourselves while we boogie boarded or rented SUPs, we could just gaze up at the waterfalls from the ocean. We saw so many rainbows we lost track of the count. The home is perfect for multigenerational families, lots of nooks and crannies for everyone to relax. We had 9 nights here and hated leaving! Our 9 year old and 6 year old boys loved the huge backyard, daily shuffle board tournaments and swaying in the hammock.
We have stayed at many vacation homes and by far, this one is the best equipped with quality supplies - even sharp knives and an awesome 3 burner Weber grill, plenty spices, beach toys and snorkeling equipment. It was even stocked with detergent, ziplock bags and q-tips! There were tons of kitchen gadgets (we made lots of fruit smoothies and pina coladas with the blender) and so many board games made it hard to decide which game to play!
The main part of the home does get warm in the July afternoons but the back breezeway and shuttle board areas are cooler and perfect areas to go relax, or just go hop in the ocean or check out a happy hour at one of the local restaurants just a 7-10 minute walk away.
Don’t forget to walk to the Hanalei farmers market on Saturday’s, a beautiful setting with live local music and tons of local product to sample and enjoy.
We also enjoyed walking to the river to go kayaking one afternoon, we only saw a few other people.
Last but not least, the outdoor shower was divine! So refreshing and nice not getting sand inside the home.
We felt like we only scratched the surface of what Hanalei and Paulele have to offer, we are already dreaming of returning one day. Thank you so much, Anne and family for opening your home. We will forever be grateful of the warm memories of our summer in Hanalei. Mahalo!
Wonderful family home in an amazing location on the loveliest island in Hawaii. These Texans missed our air conditioning, but those short walks to Hanalei Bay and that incredibly refreshing beach more than made up for a little noon-time sweat! In short, the Paulele Beach House delivered! Clean, spacious, well-appointed, comfortably furnished, and perfectly located. We chose well. Very, very well. Mahalo, Anne.
My family had the time of our lives.
Our adult children and their families shared the home for a week and it was perfect. Paulele is across the street from a magnificent white sand beach and a short walk to Hanalei. Everyone could do what they wanted when they wanted, so it was fun for all ages.
The house is gorgeous and has everything anyone would need for a fabulous vacation.
World class surfing on Hanalei Bay (ocean conditions permitting), Hiking (the famous NaPali Coast trail head is only 15 minutes away!), Shuffleboard (onsite), Horseshoes, Zip Lines, ATV rentals, Water tubing, Kite surfing, boat tours, botanical gardens, horseback riding, helicopter tours & more nearby. All shops and restaurants of Hanalei town are a short walk away.
