I grew up in North West Houston around 15 years ago and moved to the Kemah/Clearlake area never looking back. People seem to be more laid back and friendly in this area. The Kemah/Clearlake area is the 3 largest boating capita in the United States so if you enjoy power boating or sail boating this is a nice place to live. This area is also very popular with antique car collectors, motorcycle enthusiast and live entertainment at restaurants and bars. The list goes on and on of thing to see and do in this area.
Charlie purchased this cottage in 2006
I purchased this home from an architect. It is my understanding this home had a small fire and the architect spent sereral years restoring the home. This guy had great attention to detail and is an antique lover. Every where you look you will see interesting antique fixtures, with solid hardwood floors that came out of estate homes and ceiling beams though out the home. I fell in love with the home because it is so unique. Actually I purchased the home for myself and have lived in it the last 4 years. This is why the home is nicely furnished, well equipped and feels like home.
This property is very comfortable, charming, romantic, and cozy, and private from the street. If you have pets this is the vacation rental you want to book your pet will love the front and back covered patio and the cute backyard fully fenced. Guess What! 'No Pet Charge' this is a huge savings.
The things to do and places to go are endless all within 15-20 mins from the cottage. If you book I know you will enjoy your stay.
We both enjoyed your beautiful home with all the necessities of a home away from home. We had a relaxing time because the house is so cozy and homey. My husband said he would post comments on Yelp to let people know about the rental.
First let me say we have never rented a house before so we had some reservations, however, after speaking to Sharlene I felt comfortable and knew everything would be great. Also, I do not do “reviews” but wanted everyone to know what a great place this is.
We arrived the afternoon of May 27th. Our initial impression coming into the driveway was how peaceful and private the yard was. It was separated from the street by loads of shrubs and trees and the covered front porch is huge and well furnished. The front yard is decorated with handmade stepping stones and it a wonderful place just to relax, have coffee and watch the little bit of traffic go by.
Then we opened the front door. My jaw dropped and I said “WOW”. The place is beautiful and much more than reflected in the photos and descriptions. It is beautifully furnished with loads of character and imagination. Antiques and high end furnishings abound. There is a complete living room, dining room, kitchen and service porch with a washer and dryer.
The kitchen is very adequate and fully stocked with utensils and all the things you need to make a nice meal. Put in a bag of groceries and you are ready to go. The appliances are an electric stove, French door refrigerator, and dishwasher. Is it well stocked with all the dishes, cups, glasses, silverware, etc. that you could possibly need.
The two bedrooms are located one in the front by the living room and one off the back off the kitchen. The front room has the biggest bed I have ever seen and it is comfortable and definitely a high end mattress. The furniture is all antiques and it is decorated perfectly. The attached bath has a tub and a separate shower and the room is huge. Again it has all of the things you need for a stay including linens for the bath and the bed.
The back bedroom (where I stayed) had a regular king size bed that was very comfortable. Again all high end linens and it too had antiques and was a huge room. It had an attached bath with a shower only and it was great. The back bed room also had French doors on to the back covered porch. The porch overlooked a nicely landscaped and totally fenced backyard. The porch was furnished with a table and chairs and a bar-b-q grill. Outside, both front and back, were like private gardens.
Overall the Kemah Cottage was comfortable, quiet, well-furnished and just a nice slice of heaven. We had no issues at all and are just waiting to go back again. It also has Wi-Fi and Cable
This house was definitely home away from home. we went Easter weekend to visit family with my in-laws, which was a perfect place for a small egg hunt for the kiddos. this home is very dog friendly which we loved, after not being able to board our dog we were relieved that we were able to bring her last min. the back yard was a perfect sized for the kids to run around in and we loved what it was fenced in for them. the beds were comfy and large allowing my husband son and i to fit perfectly in 1 room. everything was fully stocked plenty of towels and bedding. home was clean with plenty of seating. overall we loved our stay in kemah and will choose to stay for future visits
I enjoyed the house itself, everything was nice in the house and the proximity to the ocean was nice. There is a neighbor dog that seems to bark nonstop. Beyond this, my dogs enjoyed the yard and the porches are nice.
After reading the reviews, we thought we'd give this place a try, as we we're looking for someplace that allowed dogs and was close to Kemah/NASA. Don't let the unincorporated neighborhood scare you! As soon as you pull into the driveway, you instantly feel secluded. The house itself has a covered patio in the front and back. We we're pleasantly surprised at the size of the rooms and the amenities....nothing fancy, but everything works and the place is cozy and comfortable. Our dogs loved playing in the backyard or lounging on the front porch, which had a little gate so they couldn't escape. It was a five minute drive to Kemah and about 20 minutes to NASA. We drove through many of the small towns along the bay and found great places to eat and drink. Our kids were begging to come back before we even left. Best bang for your buck!
The house is very cute, however the neighborhood is a mess and full of run down mobile homes and felt very unsafe. We didn't stay for a single night after talking with the local sheriff about the neighborhood. There is no way I would have stayed for a single night with my children and husband - sad considering my husband is a body builder! I was afraid to spend the night there.
It was a nice get away for me, the kids and Blacky my dog. We booked the cottage because it was close to the Kemah Boardwalk, Galveston Island for the kids, and not far from my brother in Baytown. We enjoyed the restaurents while watching the boats along the Kemah Boardwalk going out into Galveston Bay. We even got to visit some historical homes on Galveston Island. Lots of history there.
The accomodations provided lots of amenities and the comforts of home. Especially watching March Madness on TV. It was for Me, like my Home away from home but, with a unique cottage feeling and, being nicely decorated was appreciated. Just what I needed, quite, nestled behind landscaping from the street, with porches, patios and, a back yard to let Blacky run free. Had a great time enjoying my time off. Two days felt like a week. Looking to do this again. Now it's on to my brothers. Thanks for the booking and your attention to our stay.
The Kemah Cottage is just a few blocks from Galveston Bay, 5 minutes to the Kemah Boardwalk. A 15 minute drive to Galveston Island and Moody Gardens. It is very close to the NASA Space Center and about 20 min. from Hobby Airport. A 30 minute drive to Downtown Houston.
The Kemah Boardwalk offers Holiday Events for every season as well as Fireworks every Friday night Rock the Dock and Jazz Fest offering live music with well know performers in Texas. There are 9 popular restaurants to choose from and lots of shopping. You and your family will enjoy the huge amusement park featuring the Bullet Roller Coaster, the Boardwalk Beast (one extreme boat ride) and the water fountain. Children love to play in it all day. There is a train that will take you from one end of the boardwalk to the other. You can spend a few days eating, shopping and looking at many power boats and sail boats coming from Clear Lake into the Galveston Bay from the boardwalk.
