adorable, clean, homey, comfy, safe, quiet

  • 5 of 5

Loved every minute, hated to leave. 45 years ago, my family and I lived 2 blocks away on 4th ave. w., so I felt right at home in the area and love the neighborhood where the cottage is. I recommended it highly to 13 of my old high school friends with whom I had a reunion lunch while I was in town. Two of my old classmates know the owners and told me they have a great reputation, so that eased my mind.

Okay, But Not In A Nice Neighborhood

  • 3 of 5

I stayed at the Sweet Pea cottage for four weeks, from July 15 - August 12.The owner was kind enough to provide DVR capability even though this feature was not included in the advertisement. The picture shown does not show the two air conditioners mounted in the windows. The house is so small, it is nearly impossible to escape cold air air blowing on you. The front steps are not equal distance vertically - big problem for older people. The bathroom tub has adhesive on the bottom, but no grab bars for getting in and out of the tub, also a problem for the elderly. The biggest problem I had during my four week stay was the location of the house. Looking out the kitchen window was a dilapidated, ugly garage with weeds growing waist-high, and the neigbors on the right had outbuildings that were equally unsightly. The house was fine, but the location was not. It is obviously located in a neighborhood with no Homeowners Association, and anything goes.

Cute cottage clean and close to diwntown

  • 3 of 5

Rental states it's 1 bedroom sleeps four. The pullout couch was all springs. Killed my back . The window air conditioner was right above the pull out and needless to say I caught a cold. We had to keep the air on cool or we couldn't be comfortable. . I had to purchase the necessities. Salt and pepper , laundry soap, toilet paper, it was not equipment like most rentals but my over all stay was ok . They really need to buy a better pullout and place it on a different wall away from air. Other than that it's a cute cottage and would stay again if I was by myself

Owner's Response: I'm sorry our cottage did not live up to your expectations. Unfortunately, the sofa bed is one of the best the furniture store offered. We will see about getting a fluffier mattress cover. As for supplies, as advertised, we offer starter amounts of supplies; however, our staff is always on call and would gladly provide you any additional items needed. Furthermore, if you have four memebers in your party and prefer a standard bed, I would definitely recommend one of our wonderful two bedroom cottages. We look forward to you staying with us again.

Very small cottage with unfriendly staff at Carolina Cottages

  • 3 of 5

I arrived at Sweet Pea to discover I could not retrieve from

my phone the code to get in. After attempting to call the owner, I went Carolina Cottages to see if they could help me. Upon arriving I asked of there was a restroom and the staff person told me "no!" I hope when she is my age someone allows her permission to use facilities when necessary. These people are not older adult sensitive and I would not recommend staying here unless you are very tech savvy. I am more tech savvy than most of my friends, but could not get into the portal to retrieve the house code. The lady at Carolina Cottages could not help me either. My advice to the town of Hendersonville is to build more public restrooms if you truly want tourists. Almost every business has a large sign that says "No Public Restrooms." There is a code required for the coffee house restroom which was also difficult to use. The cleaning lady brought more supplies when requested, but not enough. I had to go out and buy more supplies myself. A stranger came to the door one day and said he was supposed to put a screen door on and then left without doing it. I had no idea if he were legitimate or not.

Owner's Response: We did everything we could to make this guest happy before, during and even after her stay. We provided check-in and other helpful information through Homeaway, her personal email and even texts numerous times. She disregarded this information and stormed into our office loudly demanding to use our restroom to the point it unerved our office staff. As for calling me with the check-in issue, I responded to her call within 15 minutes. She did not answer but I left a message with the check-in instructions. Per the rest of her email she seems to have a issue with not only our bathroom but the City of Hendersonville's bathrooms as well. All of our cottages have starter amounts of items. However, in this case, she had a friend(s) join her which delpleted the starter items quicker than usual but we still delivered additional items. On the bright side, I guess that she must have liked the cottage. She obviously had no complaints about it. I'll take that as a positive with this one!
