About The Owner

I am 59 years old and own a large catering company in Seattle. I am very active in a number of ministries in Seattle, Young life and have a heart for kids and people. I often have large groups of college kids from the UW and UPS for small retreats of 50 people for the weekend. I am a non smoker and drinker and love to collect cars, Alaskan art work, have lived in Alaska, and enjoy the outdoors.

The Owner purchased this house in 1999

Why The Owner chose Puget Sound

I bought this incredible estate as a wedding venue and ended up enjoying it so much that I have lived there the past 14 years and commute to Seattle everyday for work. Everyday I wake up and realize how fortunate I am to have a property like this and to have shared it with thousands of college and high school kids over the years. I bought in Gig Harbor because it was within an hour of driving from Seattle.

What makes this house unique

The property is totally private and has a 4 block long driveway into the property and a wonderful small lake with fresh water that is great for wildlife and swimming. The estate has a 1/2 basketball court inside, outdoor hot tub, game room with foosball, pool table, table tennis, dance floor with disco ball and a full wet bar. Inside I also have my collection of 13 classic cars with couches, bistro tables and memorabilia. There is a full gourmet kitchen for cooking and entertaining off the large living and dining room.

Guestbook comments from the manager

BEST EXPERIENCE & WONDERFUL ACCOMODATIONS ! Returning guest of over 5 years! Perfect for retreats.

  • 5 of 5

I've been staying at this cabin for over 5 years, a few times a year, mostly on large retreats and it truly is a breakaway from the noise! Perfect space for a family reunion or a retreat. Not even 10 minutes from highway 16 and this location feels like you're hours into the quietness of the woods. It is a perfect getaway and very convenient to find. Only a short drive into downtown gig harbor makes it easy to go into town for the day- or you can spend your day walking through the trails of beautiful woodland right out the front door! Working with Jim has always been wonderful! He has accommodated us in every way possible; he always makes sure the place is clean and heated and ready for our arrival. Not to mention, he always makes sure the hot tub is ready for us too! The cabin itself is outfitted with lots of great seating areas including a fully furnished and decked out game room (Poker table, pool table, ping pong, disco ball and dance floor), several TV rooms, an entire indoor basketball court/gym area, plenty of bathrooms throughout the house, a bunk room, several bedrooms, a spacious front deck, a expansive field, a pond (you can swim in with a diving board!) and a hot tub. All in all the space is fantastic. We've had anywhere from 6-40 people stay the night here and regardless of the size of our group, we've never felt overcrowded or under-serviced. You MUST stay here- the price you pay for what you get is astounding! You won't regret it and you will visit again and again!

Absolutely disgusted

  • 1 of 5

My family and I rented the lodge for Christmas and we will not be renting again. The lodge is extremely filthy and has a very strong rodent odor. We spent 3 nights and 4 daus at the lodge and with every passing day we were more disgusted.

1. Dish towels, hand towels, shower towels had a sour odor so strong that we went out and purchased our own towels and rags to use. After seeing that there was a load of moldy towels left in the washing machine we understood the odor.

2. Sheets, pillows, blankets were stained and smelled horribly.

3. Dishes were not clean. Both refrigerators were stinky and dirty and the kitchen had expired food.

4. Bathrooms....we had to clean each bathroom before any of us used them. The showers havery mold, the toilets were dirty floors around the toilets were sticky.

5. Inches of dust on every surface. The furniture is not moved to vacuum , sweep, or mop under. Side tables, night stands, lamps...every surface was caked with months of dirt and grime.

6. My elderly parents were sleeping in a bed that broke in the middle of the night.

7. Broken glass door was a safety concern. Double door in bunk room does not lock or even latch and opens to a second story drop into garage.

8. My Mom lost her cell phone and as we were packing up to leave we searched every piece of furniture every drawer and corner....there was rat droppings under the couch cushions and matress covers, in drawers and closets, under the refrigerators and microwave and toaster.

9. There was NO WiFi or working phone as we were told....we attempted to reach Jim multiple times via phone and email and he still has not contacted us back.

Owner's Response: Hi Mary, Thank you for taking some time to let us know about your experience at the lodge. We value feedback, both positive and negative as a way to know how best to serve current and future guests. While I won't respond to each item listed in your review, I do want to take some time to reply as I'm able. Regarding the cleanliness issues, we've let our current cleaning crew go and will be replacing them by the end of the week. Clean sheets and towels, dusting, and the like are all included on the cleaning list and we expect our guests to be surprised by how well kept the lodge is. The bed that was broken has been fixed. We replaced the mattress and box spring recently, and had no problems with the frame before your stay, so I'm not sure what happened there. The glass door is made of safety glass and is not a safety concern, but a replacement piece has been ordered and will be delivered later this month. Regarding the wifi and phone, there was an interruption of service that has since been resolved. Again, much of what you have said is valid and we want to respond accordingly. Thank you again for taking the time to offer this feedback. All the best, The management team

Amazing accommodations, fantastic location, BEST PLACE EVER!

  • 5 of 5

I've been coming to the Lodge for the last 10 years and it continues to be one of my favorite places in the world. I have brought family, friends, and groups I work with to lodge and it is amazing what a versatile and homey place this is. Working with Jim is always a pleasure and he goes out of his way to make sure that your stay is perfect! This is the perfect place for a family reunion, group retreat, or friends get-a-way. You need to come here. It is relaxing and quiet, comfortable, and everything you'd want in a place you'd stay. I can't recommend this place enough. The price is amazing for what you get. I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT A DEAL IT IS!!

Our favorite retreat venue!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third time we have hosted a large young adult retreat at this house and we keep coming back because it's a favorite! We have had groups from 28-40 people. The large indoor and outdoor space make a fantastic retreat, giving us the space to hold formal talks as well as playing football outside, hot tub, game room! Every time we come, we discover more of the property. The kitchen is great as well, becomes the gathering space for people to snack, cook, and hang out! The manager is very responsive and great to work with!

2 fantastic 30+ person Retreat experiences at the lodge!

  • 5 of 5

Working with Jim has been a pleasure! We've rented his amazing estate twice -- once in 2012 and once in 2014. Both times the lodge met our expectations and exceeded our hopes. I organize a Retreat to mix communities of techies, yogis, circus folks, families traditional and non. This house blew away all of them and created memories that will be talked about for years. The variety of spaces allows for introverts and extroverts to all get their needs met. There are plenty of spaces to hide away in with a book or a quiet conversation, and plenty of places to socialize and play in large groups. Our one concern was the kitchen when we had 50+ people at our second retreat -- to solve this we simply rearranged the main kitchen/living/dining space a bit, packed in a few folding tables, a few plug-in burners, and a countertop convection oven. Voila! Cooking group dinners for this group was no problem. I have yet to find a better venue for camping and large groups doing multiple activities at the same time. Jim's pricing is more than fair and makes extravagant memory-making getaways a tangible possibility for those of us on tighter budgets that still want to make magic happen. We feel quite fortunate to be able to work with him and such a wonderful estate -- we highly recommend this rental for whatever you might be planning! You will not regret; I believe you'll thank yourself.
