Great escape!!! Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place! We secured the cabin for the BIG BASS tournament! Made things SO much easier! This would also be a great place for friends or family to just come out and chill!! Donna is awesome and right next door if you need anything-but we didn't! Carter cabin is comfortable and will remind you of going to your grandparent's cabin on the lake! While the husband went fishing, we gals spent hours walking the neighborhood looking for mountain lions but only saw deer and many different types of birds - so peaceful!!! Donna and her properties are an east Texas treasure! Thank you DP for a terrific time and wonderful memories!

Owner's Response: We have some of the nicest renters! It's always a pleasure to watch them taking pictures of the deer, fishing off the dock, or sitting down by the water's edge. We thought having two vacation rentals would be good retirement insurance; instead it's opened up a whole new group of friends who come back again and again.

Much needed get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely cabin. It is clean, and very nicely furnished. The beds are comfy too. Its location makes it easy to visit several small towns nearby. Jefferson is especially interesting. Lots of history, in addition to antiques and shopping. There are 2 marinas nearby to rent boats and deal with fishing needs. T

The kitchen was fully equipped, just bring your food. We ate every meal out, and found lots of fun and different places to eat in Jefferson.

Donna was right next door if we needed anything, but we didn't.

The area is very quiet, and we saw deer almost every day.

There is Direct TV for those who can not miss their favorite shows.

I would like to have a family get together here in the future, so I would recommend this cabin.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice compliments. It gives us great pleasure to share the peace and quiet of Lake O' the Pines. We're not far from the busy cities of Texas and Louisianna, but sometimes it seems we're in a whole other world. We've met wonderful folks and always enjoy seeing them fishing off the dock, enjoying views and hearing laughter coming from their screened-in porches. With two properties adjacent to our home, guests often hold reunions here and tell us how nice it is to just throw something on the grill, relax together and watch the sun slide behind the hills across the lake. A four year old guest asked me, "Did you know there's a million stars in the sky, Mrs. Paul?" "Why, no I didn't know that." "Yep. You know what else?" "You can see every one of them from your dock at night." We are blessed indeed! Donna

Just wanted to relax and unwind!

  • 1 of 5

We arrived on a hot afternoon and wanted to go in and relax with a cool beverage, however once we got in, the floors were coated with 1/4" of red dirt. I tried cleaning them with the supplies provided to no avail. (No wonder she dropped our pet deposit) We have a 13lb total indoor Shih Tzu, and promised to cover everything he'd be on with sheets. I'm glad I did cover everything, or the red dirt would be everywhere from just my husband and I.

The full size bed...So Uncomfortable. You'll be better off sleeping on the two twin size beds.

Be careful of the oven, the handle gets as hot as the inside resulting in a burnt hand.

The owner feeds the deer which also inturn attracted a mountain lion or cougar to our back yard staring my husband down.

Sound Relaxing to you???

Owner's Response: Dear Reader, This review is totally disheartening. I live next door to this rental and have operated it and another one for several years. I have an excellent housekeeper and have never had a complaint about red dirt or any other dirt on the floor or anywhere else. We live in a wooded area with much of the forest floor covered in pine straw, however, as we'd had a great deal of rain earlier that week, there may have been areas where it was washed away. My housekeeper left the floor and Cabin thoroughly cleaned. I do ask that my brand new Lazyboy sofa and other furniture be covered if people bring pets that are allowed on the furniture at home. During their stay I visited with this couple twice and not one mention was made of their apparent discomfort about the floor, and if it was dirty, I most certainly would have cleaned it to her satisfaction immediately. I do not feed the deer, but explained to them that often my guests will buy corn and do so. There was a mountain lion sighted in the woods from our screened in porch by this woman's husband, but this has never happened in the 15 years I've owned this property. I called Parks and Wildlife the next morning and they came and investigated and assured me that mountain lions are rarely seen, that they have not had any recent sightings/reports, but also that lions have a very large range and most likely would not reappear. This woman did receive two blisters on her fingers. When her husband told me as he packed their vehicle, I went over immediately and offered a burn ointment, but she assured me twice "It's nothing. I don't need any ointment." I had never had anyone complain about the oven handle before and ordered a new stove that day. As for the bed - well, it's a Select Comfort queen-sized bed that can be adjusted to a sleeper's selection with a remote. Again, had they let me know, I'd have shown them how to use the remote if they didn't know how, or see it on the nightstand. I apologize to HomeAway and all their customers for this review. I work hard at this business and it is my greatest desire to have my guests happy and wanting to return. So far, that's been my experience and I will do everything to see that it continues. In the interim, I will send this lady a refund and apology. Most sincerely, Donna, owner

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

I haven't been back to this neck of the woods in years and we had a family gathering and had a blast! The house was perfect for our family of 5 (2 adults; 3 kids) and then the extras that came for dinner after being on the lake all day. We borrowed Donna's canoe and it was awesome! We will be back for sure. Hi Vegas, Sadie and Kaleb!!!!

Our birthday Stay

  • 5 of 5

We found the cabin enchanting and functional. The inside was beautiful and very clean. The only disappointing event was misused frying pans and we borrowed one from Donna Paul for our stay. The lake is gorgeous, and the visiting recommendations informative and quite fun.
