An unforgettable holiday in medieval surroundings
A historic building
About 3 hours from Paris and 5 hours from Calais lies Beaucharmoy, a picturesque village situated in a green valley on the edge of the plateau of Langres. You are in the 'Haute-Marne' between Burgundy and the Vosges, one of the least populated regions in France. In this region the sources many great rivers like the Meuse, the Marne and the Aube find their origin. Although time has not completely stopped in this region, you will find here, more than anywhere else, the peace and silence of the unspoilt French countryside. The landscape consists of wooded trails in beautiful valleys where villages lie hidden. In this beautiful and rural setting the Chateau of Beaucharmoy is situated, a late midieval building which was until the revolution inhabited by French nobility.
The building has been tastefully restored with modern conveniences behind antique doors. The chateau sits within 2,5 acres of private grounds, half of which is garden.
The holiday accommodation is to be found in the right wing of the chateau and has its own entrance. There is a terrace with barbecue and a large private area of the garden is reserved for guests, including a seat and a table tennis table. From the garden you have a beautiful view over the surroundings and the owners Friesian horses.
The house is situated in a part of the castle with a private entrance and is both spacious and furnished with great care. The ground floor has a large, beautiful room (exposed beams and stone walls) that comprises a sitting area with fireplace, a dining area situated in front of a medieval fireplace with wood stove and a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, washing machine, etc.
The Bedrooms
All 3 bedrooms (3 double beds & 2 singles) have their own adjoining bathroom facility with shower, sink and WC. The beds will be made up for you on arrival with fresh, luxurious linen. Towels are also provided.
The Haute-Marne lies in the south of the Champagne-Ardennes region, a beautiful and unspoilt area between Burgundy and the Vosges. The landscape consists of wooded trails in beautiful valleys where villages lie hidden. And although time has not completely stopped, this is how authentic French rural life feels. The Haute Marne is sparsely populated with only 30 inhabitants per square kilometer. It has a rich history dating from Roman times. Our medieval property sits at the edge of the hamlet and directly behind the house are the meadows, streams and forests where you can walk for hours without a human encounter. What you may encounter are the many animals that live here such as deer, foxes, boar, pheasants, partridges, buzzards, martens, badgers, stoats, etc. In the immediate surroundings you can enjoy many activities such as hiking, riding, golf, tennis, pool, wine tasting, lake (where you can swim, fish, eat and row), tennis and visit thermal baths, the casino, restaurants, one of the 3 surviving bell foundries and a glassworks.
