Open airy cabin; great for our young family of six

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely cabin for a family ski vacation. We were delighted at the open, airy feel of the cabin and the amount of light the large windows allowed. The cabin is accurately described with woodsy decor with many dreamcatchers (its given name) - charming. It was roomier than expected; we felt at home. The couch in the picture has been replaced by a leather/vinyl chocolate couch which was quite comfortable. The loft upstairs was larger than expected and can room six children comfortably (we had four).

I was pleased at the large number of pots/pans/utensils/appliances found in the kitchen. The owners also use a property management company which rents their cabin, so some of the equipment was well used, but still had much use in it. There is large table which can fit 10 people. Note here: the bench seat of the table is against the open stair rail that leads down to the garage. If you have an infant/young toddler (9 mo-2) who climbs indiscriminately; this could be dangerous. However, my two year old had no problem with it. Stairs to loft are open on one side (see owner's pics).

One of the highlights of the house was the outdoor jacuzzi tub. There were a plethora of towels available - much appreciated. My children found the beds comfortable. Unfortunately, I have a bad back and had a hard time being comfortable on the beds. They were firm but I woke up sore. I ended up sleeping on the couch. If you have back problems, you may want to bring a topper, etc. They have a large capacity washer and dryer that comes off the master bedroom that worked very well. The bathrooms functioned well.

While we were there, we skied Timberline because we are beginners and wanted to use the 2 mile Salamander run. We chose the weekdays for skiing and with the less than perfect weather and record low snowfall, had the resort to ourselves; excellent for learning how to ski. Great ski instructors for adults and kids! I thought the nursery/childcare facility (we used twice for total of 4 hours) was fair, workers were nice. We also tubed and ice skated at Canaan Valley Resort and hiked at Blackwater Falls. There is a lovely nature center for the refuge which my kids enjoyed.

I would return to this cabin. I think it was an excellent value for the price and met all our expectations and more. We saved money by renting directly from the owner instead of the rental company. She was responsive, helpful, reasonable and professional.

Great experience

  • 5 of 5

We rented directly from the owners and found them to be caring, they made sure that we had a great experience. We found them to be fair, honest, and easy to reach. We have always rented vacation homes by owner and have had a great experience in doing so.

We arrived to see a great log cabin in the woods that was very private with a small pond. Upon

entering the home we found a clean homely atmosphere that was very tastefully decorated which gave it a very homely feel to it. The kitchen was stocked with more than you will ever need, had a large dining room with a large table. We found the whole home to be very comfortable and enjoyable. The owners have taken a great deal of pride, and have done a great deal of work in their vacation home.

This is a great place for skiers in the winter as well as nature lovers in the summer and for those who like their privacy . You will not be disappointed if you rent this lovely home. Every day their would be deer in the yard that you could enjoy and photograph up close. The ski trails are about five minutes away from the home and there's a lot of things to see and do.

Great Place for Kids

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here the last week of May and the cabin was great. We have three kids and they really enjoyed everything. The cabin is perfect for kids. We saw plenty of wildlife (fox, deer, eagle, horses, snake, turtle). We had a fawn curled up in our front yard one morning. We went canoeing and paddle boating several times on the lake. The cabin was well stocked and we had everything we needed for an enjoyable time. We had one minor issue with the hot tub and Dave and Karen had it resolved in less than two hours. I would definently consider coming back and I would recommend this cabin to anyone. The Canaan Valley was beautiful and Blackwater Falls State Park and Seneca Rock is very close.

Dream - Caught

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is as advertized, we went for a family skiing week at Canaan/Timberline, unfortunately mother nature did not cooperate this year, but the "dream-catcher" (as it is named) made it a worthwhile trip! We found lots to do inside and outside and in the nearby area. The skiing was pretty good despite the conditions this past winter, and we are planning on coming back next year!! At the end of each day the outdoor hot tub soothed it all away too. We had one issue with the heat; but fireplace sufficed and the owner got it fixed right away. My wife said the kitchen was well set up and roomy / easy to cook in. All in all had a great trip, place was perfect, affordable and close to skiing. Pray for lots of snow next year!

Satisfied Customer

  • 5 of 5

All I can say is that I've stayed at the Dream Catcher twice now and will continue to do so. The first time was several years ago and my family and I were delighted with the entire property. On our more recent return, we felt the place was in even better shape. Obviously the owners take a lot of pride in this home. I wont call it pristine, but the home is as clean as you could ever expect for a ski chalet in the woods. I recall only one minor maintenance issue and it was handled very efficiently. The interior ambiance is cozy and comfortable and the exterior is private and beautiful. Actually the entire Cannan Valley/Davis area in general is breathtaking. If you love skiing, mountain biking or just being in the great outdoors, this is the perfect get-away. My family and I cant wait to go back.

Can't Wait

  • 5 of 5

Looking into our fourth visit to Dreamcatcher, I saw the review on 5/25/12 and was quite surprised. It sounds to me like the Timberline property management team dropped the ball, which is too bad. On our three prior stays everything has been wonderful, from the rich wooded property to the massive hot tub. Our family has great memories from killer skiing to big dinners, then all hunkering down to a movie or star-gazing from the porch. You can’t beat this spot with the great snow or the ridge line above the house as the gateway into the Dolly Sods wilderness area. It’s absolutely beautiful, we can’t wait to go back.
