Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6 - a fully equipped renovated bungalow

Christian’s Keep is a quaint, comfortable bungalow in the historic Lincolnville District of St. Augustine. Originally built in 1930, and fully renovated in 2007 by Christian Voelkel, Christian’s Keep provides a great respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life – nothing can beat the serenity and charm of this quiet neighborhood. Just a short distance (3/4 mile) to museums, shops, and restaurants on Saint George Street, our bungalow is convenient yet out-of-the-way enough to offer all the peace and quiet you need in a vacation getaway.

The practical three bedroom, 2 bath floor plan accommodates up to six overnight guests. The spacious living area, kitchen, and dining area provide a comfy 'home base' for you during your visit to St. Augustine – our nation’s oldest city.

Bedrooms: The practical 3 bedroom, 2 bath floor plan accommodates up to six overnight guests. The spacious living area, kitchen, and dining area provide a comfy 'home base' for you during your visit to St. Augustine – our nation’s oldest city.

The master suite is well equipped with a queen bed, a cozy reading area with a rocking chair and antique table, an inviting bathroom just through the double French doors, and a large tiled shower. The bedroom opens onto the back deck.

An antique double bed with a comfortable pillow-top mattress is the centerpiece of the guest bedroom. This room also has a large chest of drawers, bedside tables, and reading lamps.

The third 'bedroom' contains a futon which opens into a full size (double) bed. This room can double as a separate 'playroom' for children.

Kitchen & Living Areas: The modern kitchen is fully equipped, providing you the opportunity to cook meals on-site, rather than having to spend lots of money going out for all of your meals. A large Charmglow gas grill is located on the back deck for grilling your favorite steak, fish, or whatever the chef has in mind.

The dining area seats four and the table can be pulled out to comfortably seat 6. Extra chairs are available in the antique drop-leaf game table in the large entry hallway.

Christian’s Keep also has a full sized washer and dryer located in the laundry area – we provide all of the comforts of home! Why settle for just a hotel or a 'bed and breakfast inn'?

Come Immerse yourself in southern charm in your own historic cottage on Twine Street.

About John and Susan

We are empty-nesters who like to have a place to get away that is not too far from home. Historic St. Augustine is such a quaint town, and we fell in love with it the first time we visited with our kids over 20 years ago.

John and Susan purchased this house in 1996

Why John and Susan chose St. Augustine

We love the downtown St. Augustine historic area, and Christian's Keep is uniquely situated on a street which has many restored homes.

What makes this house unique

The way this home sits on the property affords ample off street parking for 3 to 4 cars, which is rare in downtown! It is perfect for wedding parties, or families arriving in separate cars.

Christian's Keep is also dog friendly, and we have a fully fenced back yard!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a sweet quiet little get-a-way. We loved our time here seeing the sights and enjoying all the history! Our bike ride to breakfast was awesome. Your'v done a beautiful job renovating this home.

Outstanding!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, along with our two "Westies" had a great time at Christian's Keep. The house felt like it was our own vacation home and the neighborhood was rich in history and wonderful people. Close enough to downtown to walk and far enough away from the maddening crowds for peace and solitude. Short 15 minute drive to Vilano Beach for the dogs to take a swim. We look foward to a return trip. Dick

Cozy, well-kept, convenient, clean, and fun

  • 5 of 5

We'd visited St. Augustine before. This was a less "touristy" experience, which we enjoyed. The Lincolnville neighborhood is a unique and surprising place, with a history of its own worth exploring. The proximity to downtown St. Augustine, the nearby parks, and waterways, and several excellent restaurants within walking distance, made this stay special. We enjoyed the people we met, and this special time of year in the "city of lights." Christian's Keep- keep it up!

Loved the history where this home is located in Lincolnville

  • 3 of 5

Booked for the month of February 2017 and overall was comfortable. Drove from NY only to find the home unkept and dirty. We arrived at 5pm and started cleaning immediately till 1am! Had to wash all the dishes and silverware as we found food on them and not sure if the rest were clean or not. Shower curtains so dirty we washed them. Found a clean one in the closet. Floors very dirty. Did a lot of organizing. We let the home owners know what we encountered and they were sorry and refunded the cleaning deposit plus gift cards to an area restaurant. The back yard was so full of leaves we raked them under the deck. There is a grill to use but we had to clean it in order to use it and had to get propane which the owner gave us money for. Went to use the bikes and the shed stunk of cat urine. Overall they owners could give this property some attention. We left the property in excellent condition so I hope the next renters have an enjoyable stay. I received a message from the homeowners that if I give the property a five star rating they will give us a discount of 10% on our next rental. This disturbed me to now know the reviews are based on receiving a discount. I will give it a three star based on our experience.

Owner's Response: This first review of its kind has left us dumbfounded. Christian's Keep is our home, and we pour our hearts and souls into keeping it clean, warm, and inviting for ourselves and our guests. We respond immediately to any and all requests or issues, which we certainly did with these guests. During the first week of their stay we stopped in to meet them and to address their arrival issue in person. We were shocked to find that these guests had rearranged every piece of furniture, the contents of every drawer, shelf, and cabinet, and much of the decor in our home! In 9+ years of sharing our home with HomeAway and VRBO travelers, this was the first time that we have ever had a guest take such liberties with our property. This was also the first time we have ever had negative feedback regarding cleanliness (in fact, we have had many, many positive comments on cleanliness). Christian's Keep is meticulously maintained, and is thoroughly cleaned by a nationally franchised, professional cleaning service after each guest. While our cleaning service does not move heavy furniture, inspect and organize the dishes in the cabinets, or clean the bar-b-que grill, they have consistently earned high praises from our guests for the cleanliness of our property. We rely on our guests to leave the grill and dishes clean, but as the homeowners, we also go in whenever our guest calendar is open to attend to maintenance and check cleanliness details. Our policy is to do everything we can to ensure that every guest's experience at Christian's Keep is as perfect as possible. Although we went far above and beyond all reasonable expectations with this guest yet were reviewed harshly in return, we will not waiver from our commitment to excellence for all of our guests.

Close to downtown

  • 5 of 5

A nice little home to stay while in Saint Augustine. Perfect for our family of 4 and our dog. The neighborhood is quiet and neighbors are friend, there is also a park a couple of blocks away with an playground for the kids and a nice area to walk the dog.

John & Susan were very flexible and we were able to check in an evening early, due to last minute travel changes. They were very fast to answer all emails. Check in & check out process were very simple.

The home is also very close to all attractions.

Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Our new favorite place

  • 5 of 5

We (4 adults; one infant; one dog) had a marvelous stay at Christian's Keep. The accommodations were comfortable; the home strategically located and the yard quite nice for our dog.

We were within 10 minutes of Historic Downtown and a mere couple of blocks from wonderful eateries. Blue Hen for breakfast twice and The Preserved for a lovely Sunday brunch. We also ate at the Colombia Restaurant as well as our favorite The Floridian.

Christian's Keep is in a lovely, friendly neighborhood. We chatted with both neighbors and the folks across the street. There is also a nice children's play park a few blocks towards the Marina.

A very welcoming place to stay in St. Augustine.

Quaint house in download St. Augustine!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful trip to St. Augustine, thanks to this beautiful house! It was conveniently located close to Flagler College, the downtown district, and all of the "must-do" things in St Augustine. All of the amenities of the house worked 100% as advertised and the house was in perfect condition when we arrived. 10/10 if we ever plan another trip to St. Augustine, we will definitely try to book this one if available!
