About Stephanie Joy Johnson

I am Stephanie Joy Johnson, owner and manager of my vacation rental homes. My passion is creating beauty in real estate….remodeling and restoring homes, landscape design, interior home décor and, best of all, making guests feel pampered when they stay at my personally owned luxury vacation homes in the gorgeous mountains of Western North Carolina. I devote myself full-time to taking care of my homes & guests. YOU are my full-time business! My business is called Asheville Vacation Homes.

I began this business in 2004 and delight in finding beautiful locations and gorgeous homes for vacation rental settings. I am always searching for interesting furnishings (shopping!) to add to the delightful decor for my guests.

Why Stephanie Joy Johnson chose Asheville Area

I am passionate about living in these awesome Smokey Mountain & Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina and adore sharing my vacation rental homes with guests who come to experience our area’s mountains & towns. I take exquisite care of my properties and am available anytime to see to your needs. I make sure each home is exceptionally clean, meticulously well-maintained and the hot tub sparkling with fresh water.

I have lived in Asheville, North Carolina for many years and find great joy in discovering more and more reasons why this is the BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO LIVE! Asheville is consistently in the “Top 10 Places To Live” according to almost any criterion published! It’s a diverse multi-cultural blend of mountain folk and cosmopolitan society set in a dramatically beautiful mountain setting. It is my heart-felt desire to provide gorgeous welcoming homes in spectacular settings and to share this town with you!

What makes this lodge unique

With all the special touches, I promise you that my vacation rental homes will feel as though you are staying at a friend’s warm inviting home rather than a 'vacation rental house. You will appreciate the tasteful decor and thoughtful care my homes reflect. Each home has been lovingly remodeled, elegantly furnished, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully accessorized with special amenities to pamper you including massage chairs, hot tubs, high speed wireless Internet, king beds with sumptuous bedding, HDTV’s & DVD's, movie libraries, quality well-equipped kitchens, fireplaces, central heat & air conditioning, washers & dryers and much more!

Unique to my homes are all the amenities offered for babies and children. There are cribs, pack-n-plays, strollers, high chairs, baby bath tubs, stuffed animals & blankies. Older children love to play on the outdoor playgrounds with forts, slides, swings, climbing walls, etc. plus games, books, toys, kids DVD movies and more. Kids of all ages love to roast marshmallow at the firepits.

My homes are easily accessed, right in-town, close to grocery stores, restaurants and shopping. No winding mountain roads to get lost in or long drives to town. The homes are in peaceful, lush vacation spots where you can relax and feel at home.

Rather than dealing with a third party management company with limited business hours & knowledge of a home, you can deal directly with me, the owner. I am available to you 7 days-a-week, anytime between 9 AM and 7 PM and after hours for emergencies. I know my properties intimately because I have personally had them restored, remodeled, furnished and equipped. YOU are my full time business! Because I live locally, I am available whenever you call.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a group of 14 stay here at Mountain Laurel Lodge. Ages ranged from mid-sixties to 4 months old. The house was large enough that we could each retreat into our own corners or mix & mingle in the main living areas. The kids enjoyed the toys & hanging out in the master suite's living area watching movies. The main bedrooms all being on the entry level was nice especially since one member of our party has knee trouble and can't easily climb stairs. Beautiful decor, very clean and welcoming!

Family Retreat at Julian Lake Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Julian Lake Lodge was a comfortable, very well equipped and maintained vacation retreat. The owner thought of everything we needed to feel at home and pampered. The kitchen was large and easy to navigate and possessed all of the tools needed to prepare a sandwich or a large family meal. The home is kid and pet friendly. We took advantage of many of the area's resources including trips to Asheville, Hendersonville, several parks, the arboretum, golf courses and restaurants. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return in the future.

Tranquil privacy near exciting city--best of both!

  • 5 of 5

Spacious, exquisitely furnished, and the decks with their lovely lake view were AWESOME!

We were beyond impressed with this gracious lake home in such a tranquil location with peaceful forest surroundings. Mornings had the kids out fishing for breakfast. Everyone was well entertained with all the amenities….sitting in the hot tub at night, marshmallow roasts at the fire pit, kids’ playground, decks all around the house with plenty of seating, big kitchen with everything we could need, big screen TV, something for all ages. We loved the Asheville location with its great variety of restaurants, shops, golf, Blue Ridge Parkway, Biltmore Estate, waterfalls, rafting, hiking….it’s a great place to explore. We highly recommended this home!

Quiet peaceful week by the lake

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved this beautiful home in such a lush private setting with everything we could want and more!  Kids loved the hot tub, massage chair, fire pit, extensive playground and play area.  Each bedroom has a deck where we could watch the lake….mornings a mist would rise and a few times we saw deer wander out of the woods into the yard – awesome!  The home is very clean with lovely furnishings, well maintained, kitchen well equipped, and obviously shows a great deal of thoughtful care.  It’s convenient to town, restaurants & shopping.  We’ve already recommended this home to friends and will be back for a week this fall!  Thanks again for the best vacation ever!

Easy access; not secluded; view of neighbors

  • 3 of 5

The house is exactly as described, and very clean and comfortable. Access is easy to area highways and to restaurants and shopping. It is important to understand, though, that this convenience comes at a price: this is not a rural location and you can see neighbors' homes from most windows and hear traffic from the main street across the lake. The rest of the homes in this tiny neighborhood are not as well maintained as this house. The lake can be seen from the living room and one bedroom as well as the deck, but the view is mostly blocked by trees. Note that, as stated, there is no swimming in the lake (the lake is a cooling pond for the nearby power plant, with big intake pipes which pose a danger to swimmers) and fishing from boats (with electric motors only) is only permitted in one area of the lake that one has to drive to from the house (about 5 -7 minutes, depending on traffic). While you can fish from the shore at the home, the frontage is very limited before you arrive at Private Property signs from other homeowners. One neighbor's German Shepherd dog sometimes came over onto the property, so be aware of that if you are bringing your own small pet to the home. Overall, a fine place to stay, provided that the lake is not the focus of your recreational plans and you are not looking for a secluded escape from civilization. Easy to get to the Biltmore, Blue Ridge Parkway, and into downtown Asheville (where you should definitely visit the Pinball Museum - one entry fee to play as long as you like on many vintage machines). The owner of this home is responsive and concerned about the comfort of her guests and provides lots of little extras which you don't always find in vacation rentals.

Owner's Response: I appreciate this review! I’m delighted it highlights the details of Lake Julian usage. I take responsibility in this case as I broke my own rules and allowed a last minute reservation which resulted in the guest not reading the information provided about the home’s in-town location or lake usage in my advertising and guest instructions. I should have been aware their expectation was for boat fishing in a rural location. I feel distraught when a guest finds reason to complain about their stay….I do my best to go above and beyond in what I offer in my homes to make it an enjoyable stay. To address a few issues: • With no public or boat access at our end of the lake, it assures a quiet, tranquil setting where you can fish from shore. (I’m a bit mystified about the note of traffic noise as it is very quiet here.) • Shrubs & some trees have now been removed so there is no issue with access or lake visibility. • The Private Property signs for are our guests’ privacy so the general public does not come onto our property to fish. Signs do not apply to our guests! The frontage is ours & not the neighbors. • All three bedrooms and the living room on the main level have decks with lake views. • There are 3 small homes behind my home off the back parking area. This is the only home with lake frontage; the view is toward the lake and not of the neighbors. On either side of the home are acres of forest. • I’m not sure why the neighbor’s dog got loose…other than to irritate people who were already upset. I’m so sorry this happened.

Homey, comfortable, and great for families

  • 4 of 5

This house is in such a great location for families. With a huge playground outside and downtown within a 15 min drive you can't beat it. Our children LOVED the princess room and reading nook. Such a great spot for those with little ones.

Quiet property conveniently located to nearby shopping, groceries & restaurants. A short drive into downtown Asheville or Biltmore. Spacious house with plenty of room the two families easily spread out in. Picturesque lake view. Peaceful. Relaxing. Owner expertly maintains several properties in the Asheville area. Highly recommended.
