About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms , 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4)

This 1860's home is large and comfortable. Although rustic, beds are all new and very comfortable, and it is one of the only homes in the entire area with a path directly to the beach from the large back yard.

Great for a couples or a family. Everything is within walking distance, including coffee, restaurants, ice cream, two beaches, whale watching, live theater, shops and site seeing.

For that true needed relaxation the Mendocino beach house is the place. Just watch the waves from your deck as you drink some local wine, have a picnic lunch, or take a walk down the special beach path and explore the caves and look for shells and sea glass. Rented only once a month. Great for 4 weeks or more!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the Mendocino beach house was excellent. The house was really comfortable and full of interesting artwork . The yard and views were beautiful. The walk to the beach was quick and you could see the ever changing beach from the house. The garden art was unique and it was so fun just to explore around the house and yard. The home was close to everything we needed and our dog charlie especially enjoyed the trip! Cheers to the beach house!

Perfect Location and Great Views!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfectly located and is within walking distance to everything on Main Street. The view to the ocean was LOVELY. The house is very spacious and open. The beds were incredibly comfortable as was the living room with its two couches and multiple cozy blankets and pillows. It rained most of our visit but that didn't stop us from enjoying Mendocino and this home. It was nice being able to return to the house every night to relax in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine as we viewed movies from the big collection. The location is fantastic, the almost private beach is just a short mystical walk through the backyard and down some steps. Views from practically every room in the house even the upstairs bathroom - you can take a shower while looking out at the ocean! We also loved the funky, and wonderful art throughout the garden. We can't wait to book another longer visit.

Wonderful Mendo Beach House

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic beach house so well positioned and within walking distance of everything in Mendocino. Large home with lovely views and a back yard that is an adventure of discovery itself. Full of creative art that entertains and surprises as you explore. A gem that satisfies on all levels. The instructions and access was easy. Hope we can return to enjoy it again.

A magical summer

  • 5 of 5

We rented the beach house for 2 magical months, summer 2016. There are views from every room in the house. The location is perfect, walking distance to everything in Mendocino. There is a path right from the backyard to the beach. The house has plenty of room and a relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely stay here again

Historic and artsy retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this historic cottage by the sea! The house is filled with artistic expression both inside and out . There lots of wonderful windows that make it feel light and airy and offer pleasant views of the sea and yard . The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed for a wonderful time. Thank you Gary for sharing this special place.we would definitely recommend this to a friend. It is a old gem of a house . Great for those who appreciate a home with old house charm. Wonderful path down to the water too...and walking distance to everything.

Very thankful I stumbled upon this treasure.

  • 5 of 5

First, I want to say that the owner Gary and his son were awesome and thank you both for an unforgetable experience in such beautiful place. The home was one of the oldest houses in Mendocono, situated right at the beginning of Main street! But not so you can see any crowdscor anything. What a treat to be able to walk "home" from the Mendocino hotel after a wonderful meal. Or anywhere in town for that matter. It was in a very quiet place where you can hear the waves and smell the Ocean. But even better, down a well maintained and easy path to one of the best beaches I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. It is the mouth of the Big river feeding into the ocean, so you have both the Ocean and a piece of the river to enjoy. Very few people were ever there, and its so huge I never felt like it was not a private beach! I even got to watch a pod of Dolfins one day right off shore feeding on a school of small fish. The sunsets were so beautiful. And the stars at night! Wow! I saw a meteor hit the earths atmosphere and/or "shooting stars" every single night of my stay...never knew there were so many stars! They seemed so huge too, and the moon seemed twice its normal size! The sun shone bright each morning through the large sliders and warmed up the house so toasty, allowing lots of light to pour through. The charming room upstairs with the dormer windows looking out to the ocean on one side, the quaint church steeple on the other was my favorate. The COZIEST loveseat on the planet was my favorate place to read and doze off in the afternoon. Oh! and in the front windows, an historic cemetary...added an awesome touch one night during a quick unexpected thunderstorm. Haha.

I dont want to spoil the surprise, but will just say that if you rent this home there are at least a couple hundred amazing surprises that make this a very special home that was filled with love and happy times. It is apparent everywhere you go. The very large backyard has REAL secret gardens, full of enchantment for my six year old niece. She will remember this home and our stay fondly for the rest of her life I am sure. As will I.
