Space 600 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2 adults)

Abalone Arch - a romantic and private guest suite on the edge of a bluff above a dramatic and private ocean cove on the rugged Mendocino coast, only two miles north of the village of Mendocino.

Your privacy is of upmost importance! Behind a high entrance gate is a secluded and protected patio with two Adirondack chairs, perfect for sunset watching with a glass of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. A private covered and protected deck has a rocking chair for whale watching. Discover the outside shower (there is an ocean view inside shower too) that is on the edge of the cliff above the arch and cove.

The tastefully decorated “Coastal Living” style suite is charming and light. Inside the large windows, which are just fifteen feet from the craggy ocean bluff, is a comfortable king sized bed and a cozy sitting area with a gas fireplace. The granny kitchen (fridge, microwave, convection oven, coffee pot) comes with complimentary homemade cookies and granola (milk), local beer and wine, coffee and teas (cream), cheese and crackers.

For those traveling with a computer, free secure high-speed WiFi internet connection is available. There is also an Bose Blue Tooth System, a CD player with CD’s, a flat screen TV and a private phone with unlimited long distance.

Wake up to migrating grey whales, hungry brown pelicans, diving ospreys as well as the “S’s” – seals, sea lions and sea gulls. For those guests who can pull themselves away from relaxing and from their “ocean watching chore;” outdoor activities abound – hiking, cycling, kayaking, exploring - all within easy access in the several nearby State Parks. Just two miles south is the historic village of Mendocino with restaurants, theater, galleries and shopping. Forty five minutes east is the Anderson Valley where award winning pinot noir, chardonnay and sparking wines can be enjoyed in boutique tasting cellars. Majestic redwood forests are ready to be discovered on short hikes in our local State Parks.

Fall asleep to the rhythm of the tides and the music from the rocks.

Very clean, pet free

Electric plug in available for plug in vehicles.

All fees included in rental price (except VRBO service fee!)

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have been coming to Mendocino for many years and have finally found the secret treasure of Mendocino. The views, the accommodations, the privacy and your hospitality were wonderful. We felt as if we were on a distant land completely removed from the trials and tribulations of life. For the first time in a long time we are relaxed.L & S – Napa, CA

super blue blood moon

Beautiful location and weather for our anniversary and viewing the lunar eclipse. The studio was immaculate and only needed some reading lamps to make it perfect. Thanks to the owners for sharing such a spot and good wishes for you in the coming days.

My wife and I had a wonderful time. The view of the ocean is beyond compare. Never had much reason to leave the comfort of our room, just enjoyed our time watching the water crash against the rocks. Barry and Wendy were very accommodating hosts.

We were at Abalone Arch in late November and loved it.

There are views from every window of the ocean. Our accommodations were absolutely comfortable --

for sleeping, relaxing, reading, whale watching, and eating. Wendy and Barry were friendly and very helpful and there for any needs, as well as giving full privacy. Wendy even includes her own homemade cookies and granola; as well as wine, cheese and crackers, milk and coffee.

We only wish we stayed more than 4 days and will the next time.

One of the most beautiful places to say. Room is wonderfully outfitted with a tiny kitchenette, fabulously comfortable bed, and a view that looks straight out at the Pacific. We have stayed here many times. Wendy is a wonderful host. The suite is completely clean and private, situated on a headland overlooking the raging and beautiful Pacific.
