A group of 10 of us had an absolutely marvelous time! The penthouse and adjoining suites were perfect accommodations for us! The view from ALL spots inside and outside of the unit is spectacular. The location was perfect for everyone in our group to be able to go in different directions and be in the middle of everything. The unit was well stocked and we wanted for nothing. We enjoyed every aspect and I can't recommend this property enough to anyone wanting a group getaway for a large family, girls/guys getaway, reunion, or anyone who wants to have feel like a rock star for their visit to New Orleans. Can't wait to get another trip together and return to the Penthouse at the Jax!
First and foremost, this place is the most ideal location if this is your first time in New Orleans (as it was mine and the rest of my traveling buddies). Food, the Casino, Bourbon Street, shopping, literally everything is within walking distance.
I traveled with 9 other guys to stay for the weekend. I wish I could have taken a picture of everyone's face when they first walked in to the penthouse. It was absolutely beautiful. The rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, pool/bbq area, sitting areas, literally everything was so clean and organized. The floors were spotless, the refrigerator was clean, the bathrooms were immaculate. I cannot stress enough how clean and accommodating the entire place was.
Honestly, the bed I slept in was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in in my life. I have a wonderful bed at home, so it was tough to come home to after I slept there over the weekend.
The owners who I was in constant contact with during the whole process were more than helpful. Very diligent with phone calls, emails etc... I was not the first one to arrive, but the person who got there first met with the owner Earl, who showed him around the place and how everything worked and gave him the keys. There is not interference whatsoever.
There was also stocked cabinets with everything you need to make food in the kitchen, as well as a dishwasher, which was so nice to have.
I cannot say enough good things about this and I was so happy that it was everything I expected and more. This can be utilized for a family stay to bachelor/bachelorette parties.
My stay was the best experience ever and I honestly cannot wait to go back. If I could I would rate this 100 stars. Once again, thank you Earl and John for making me and my friends first experience in New Orleans a great one!
The Penthouse at Jax is a beautiful, centrally located penthouse apartment located across the street from Jackson Square in the French Quarter. Communication with the property and check in was very easy. The property manager takes you through the property and shows you how everything works and where everything is. He is also available via e-mail during the entire stay. The penthouse is accessed through a private elevator. The group will receive 4 keys, which is all you will need even if you rent the 5th suite. DO NOT lose the key as you cannot get back in without it and you WILL be charged over $800 to replace it.
The Master suite is HUGE, and located right off the living room. It is not super private but has the best bathroom for women to get ready. Two close friends or a couple that doesn't need to sleep late would do very well in there. The Cabana Suite is separate from the main house, as is the 5th optional suite. Both of these are VERY private, but the 5th suite is even more private and has better sun shade. The Cabana Suite has a pull out couch so a group of three could fit well in there. This room is bright, though, and is not suited for those that like to sleep in. Bring a sleep mask. The 5th floor bottom suite is perfect for light sleepers as it has no windows and is probably the coolest in the house. Partiers and those that go to bed late and sleep in need this room. The upper room has no window shades and should be saved for an early riser. It is also best for only one person because it has the smallest bed. If you have a group of 8, put 3 in the cabana suite and leave the upper loft room for 1 person. It also has great air conditioning. The extra suite is very private and has good window shades and its own bathroom. It is probably the best of all the rooms in the place.
The house comes with everything - top notch appliances, a catering kitchen, and a separate bathroom for the pool area. We won't stay anywhere else in New Orleans! Nothing even compares.
Notes:If you book more than 6 months in advance, check back after a few months to confirm your reservation because they don't update the calendar online. The only microwave is in the catering kitchen. The Steamboat Natchez plays some kind of weird steam organ 3 times a day right next to the place. You DO get used to it - but it is pretty terrible and always off pitch. The first session is at 10:30 am so bring earplugs.DO get the grocery service. DO watch the outdoor pool TV.DO spend one night in
Most of the reviews here get it spot on...this is the place for a larger group in NOLA if you want:
Convenience to all of NOLA and easy access to the Quarter
Top shelf amenities
Privacy and Security
Room to Entertain
Superior to hotel accommodations in every way. The pool is awesome (with an outdoor TV where we watched playoff games) and the outdoor roof deck goes on forever and ever. There is a commercial ice maker on the roof so it's convenient to keep your favorite beverages cold while hanging out or swimming.
Plenty of room to spread out and/or sleep inside, although older or "unathletic" guests will not at all tolerate going up or down the very narrow spiral staircase to access the primary top or bottom bedrooms. The additional queen suite lock off is an awesome private sanctuary for an individual or couple in the group that wants to have "their own space".
The owners are great folks who are there if you need them but never in the way - very helpful and accommodating. We had 8 people, but could have been comfortable with a few more very easily. Grab a "pig-nay"at the coffee and beignet place right next door (andouille sausage on a stick with a beignet wrapped around it and deep-fried).
Downsides: very few. The daily freight train and twice a day organ whistle music from the riverboat right next door can get annoying, but you'll learn to deal with it. Security is solid, but make sure you don't misplace the keys to the private elevator - you can't get up to the PENTHOUSE without it - and if you lose it, they have to charge you to rekey.
I would very enthusiastically recommend this place and look forward to staying there again in the future.
We took some friends for a long weekend which included a get together with our local New Orleans friends as well. The Penthouse was the absolute perfect place for New Orleans newcomers, veterans and locals. The views are unrivaled. We've stayed in a number of NOLA hotels and nobody has a view like this. The accomodations are Spectacular! The open floor plan is perfect for a party...and then there's the rooftop deck. The outdoor area is sprawling and the sights and sounds breathtaking. The pool was heated, so we could actually go for a swim in January! The atmosphere is totally laid back. There was non stop music from the waterfront below and the Natchez riverboat with it's calliope and sometimes jazz band at your doorstep. For eight adults, the rooming situation is great with plenty of privacy but even more shared space. The place is Really well stocked - the kitchen (s) fully outfitted and lots of amenities in the bathrooms in case you forgot something. The location is ideal, with everything outside your front door. It's an awesome place.
Our group has been coming to New Orleans for over 15 years, and never have we stayed at a finer place than the penthouse. Some locals told us about the Penthouse at Jax last year when we were here. We tried to book it for a few different dates but it was already spoken for. Well, it was worth the wait! We arrived in mid September and were immediately blown away when we walked in the front door. As our local friends mentioned, the views are amazing and the interior is spotless and beautiful. We wound up spending a lot more time at the penthouse, around the pool, and on the huge veranda overlooking the river than we planned on. It was so wonderful we hated to leave. The owners and their sons could not have been more helpful and informative. We had a wonderful time and will certainly tell all our friends about this amazing place...Count on seeing us again!
