About David Stuit

Beth sitting on Seawall in Kona

David Stuit purchased this studio in 2007

Why David Stuit chose Honaunau-Napoopoo

My wife Beth grew up in Malibu, California and has always wanted to return to the ocean so when we visited friends here in the Spring of 2007 we both fell in love with the South Kona area and after much web looking we found this place. The rest is history

What makes this studio unique

We are very well located for those who love to snorkel and kayak and for these day trips to Volcano Park, South Point or Hilo. We are within 2 hours of any where else on the Island.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a wonderful suprise we have stumbled upon. How lucky we are to have had such warm and genuine hosts. The tips you have given us have been invaluable, much prefered to any guide book. Thanks to the tree outside our door we are now certifiable star fruit addicts. Far too short, our stay with you has been a little slice of heaven for budget travelers such as our selves. We will forever remember your hideaway as the gateway to some of the world's best snorkeling..... who could forget the dolphins?!! We hope to see you again. Take Care.

Neat place, nice people

  • 4 of 5

David and Beth's place was a great start to our first visit to Hawaii. The location was beautiful, the artistic touches impressive and all the toys to use were a bonus! They pointed us to some really special local spots, were patient with our daughter and helped us jumpstart our rental car. The only thing we think could be improved is the queen bed mattress needs replaced.

Thanks for letting us stay with you!

Owner's Response: Mahalo, for the info regarding the Queen mattress in our suite. It will be replaced within the week. Again thanks for letting us know.

This is the PERFECT place to stay when visiting the Big Island. It is peaceful, cleverly appointed, and very clean. Beth and Dave are amazing hosts, very respectful of our space. We arrived in the dark and Beth even met us at the driveway with a flashlight to ensure we had no difficulty finding the drive. If you have not been to HI, it gets dark at night (the stars are amazing!) They also provided helpful details on where to get groceries, snorkel, and kayak. Speaking of gear...its all there and in good condition. They even have soft racks so you will have no problem putting the kayak on your rental AND they have the required permit to kayak into Captain's Cove.

We are grateful to have stayed here. Thank you Beth and Dave!

This was a great place to come home to after long days exploring the island!

  • 5 of 5

Dave and Beth stocked this getaway with everything you might need. We got a chance to use their snorkeling gear and boogie boards and enjoyed fresh fruit from nearby trees. They even provided ear plugs for the early morning roosters. We can't wait to be back!

Welcoming home away from home, old Hawaii style!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our 16 day stay at Beth's Hawaiian Hideaway in South Kona on the Big Island. If you are looking for a respite from, well, anything, this is the place to be. This is not a resort or hotel experience, this is laid back, old-style Hawaiian living in a friendly neighborhood only a 5 minute drive from Two Step, the Place of Refuge, and the S. Kona Fruit Stand, and it's the perfect launching pad for so much more (the volcano, green and black sand beaches, botanical gardens, coffee tours, great food....).

The onsite hosts, Dave and Beth, are friendly and generous with their recommendations for activities and restaurants, and with their loaner equipment (everything from kayaks & snorkeling equipment to beach chairs & umbrellas, and even coolers, beach bags, and hats!).

In addition to being comfortable and adorable, the dwelling is appointed with everything you can think of (and many things we did not!), and the artsy, eclectic decor is fun and entertaining (as are the geckos, which are everywhere!). It feels private and spacious, even though the hosts live upstairs and there are 2 other rental units. And the pool area is so inviting, we spent a whole day there!

Bonus: Ripe papaya, mango, and avocado can be found right on or around the property. Talk about a fresh breakfast! Yummy.

Be aware, it is not "quiet" here in the usual sense... the birds start singing with the sun, and the koki frogs kick in with their songs in the evening. Earplugs are provided, and my partner used them a couple of times for the early morning birdsong, but I never did and I slept really well.

We put over 1300 miles on our little rental car exploring most of the 8 climate zones on the island (Hawaii has 4 out of the 5 major climate zones in the world, and 8 out of 13 of the sub-zones), and we came back every night expect one, when we stayed on the east side in Puna... and this place always felt like home!

Mahalo and much aloha to Dave and Beth for everything. We so look forward to our return!

Can we go back there today, please?

  • 5 of 5

We left the Plumeria Suite 2 weeks ago and keep wishing we could be back there. This was our 7th or 8th visit to the same unit over the years, and we will return next year too! The cottage is nestled in the jungle, quiet in the daytime with a gentle koki and gecko duet in the evenings. The Plumeria Suite is well appointed with snorkels, fins, boogey boards, kayaks, towels and other supplies you may use and need, but you don’t really want to have to bring on the plane. “Our cottage” is very close to Honaunau (Two-Step) and Kealakekua Bay, meaning amazing snorkeling every day. This is not the place if you want to be around people all the time – it is great for those seeking quiet beauty. Enjoy!
