Beautiful Shore Cottage
Shore Cottage is the most unique experience. When you stay there, you realise how little you need in life apart from an amazingly beautiful view, a beautiful warm cosy cottage, a bed to sleep in and listening to the sea lapping the shore and the wind rustling and raging outside. Thank you
A little gem at Achill
It’s not a place for everyone. It’s very old, with concrete floors, a lot of old furniture and traditional, a bit smokey fireplace. Everything makes this place magic. At the same time the walls are freshly painted and the kitchen and bathroom are well maintained and supplied. There’s plenty of space in the cottage and the host provided wood and peat briquets for the fireplace.
It’s a great place to experience the Ireland and have a hint of how its brave people have lived with harsh nature around.
It’s a place with soul, certainly for us it’s got one.

Thank you both for your very nice review !
Private retreat in traditional cottage.
I rented the shore cottage for three weeks to use as a home base for many day trips exploring Ireland. It is exactly as the photos show. Very much the picture of a storybook cottage. Achill sound and Island are beautiful and the people of this small community are lovely.
If you are looking for some fancy hotel this is both the place for you. If you are looking to experience a traditional cottage with all of its charming character and quirks this is you place.
Mrs. McHugh is responsive and a joy to communicate with as well.
Thank you Michele for the brilliant review!
Starving artist cottage
Old and worn out interior.
I am sorry if my cottage didn’t come up to your expectations but I hope you enjoyed the beautiful Achill area .
What a wonderful little cottage in the most fantastic location. My daughter (14) and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The peace and quiet helped with GCSE revision ! Beautiful Achill Island on the doorstep for exploring as well as many other places within an easy drive. We hope to return one day.
Thank you for the very kind review. Glad you enjoyed your stay in the beautiful Achill area.
Shore Cottage October 2010
My husband and I have just returned from our delightful stay at Shore Cottage, it was exactly what we were looking for. Very clean, comfortable, loved the furnishing, and lovely cosy fire place, which really enhanced the ambiance Great views all around. We are keen walkers, so were very happy with the location, beautiful walks were to be had just outside. Found the owner very helpful and obliging, Would recommend for peaceful getaway from city life.
Thank you so much for your very nice review in appreciation of your stay at Shore Cottage.
The cottage is approx. 2.1/2 miles from Achill Sound village, where there are restaurants and shopping facilities.
The area is ideal for walking, cycling and fishing. There is a golf course at Keel, Achill Island and others at Mulranny and Westport. There are many historical sites to be explored on Achill Island plus a wealth of sandy beaches especially the very picturesque Keem Bay - not to be missed. A trip to Minaun Heights is another highlight, from where on a clear day, Clew Bay with its many islands can be seen. A trip to Croagh Patrick is another worthwhile option.
The latest attraction for the area is the new Achill to Westport Greenway, via Mulranny and Newport. This is for cyclists and walkers only and bicycles can be hired in Achill and at other points along the way.
