About Otto or Erika Soeding
In 1967 we moved to the USA from Germany and in 1994 we made a dream come true and purchased our beach home on Lake Michigan. We enjoy spending time there and appreciate nature with woods, water, wildlife and tranquility, sitting on one of multiple decks.
Otto or Erika Soeding purchased this House in 1994
Why Otto or Erika Soeding chose Harbor Springs
The setting is unique, with 140' on Lake Michigan, the house sits on a dune, overlooking the beach and the water.

Beautiful home and location
Sadly, we could not stay for our intended weekend. When we arrived the furnace did not work. It was a chilly night but a repair man came in the morning Even though he could get the house warm, the heat exchanger in the furnace put out too much carbon monoxide so we had to cancel our weekend stay there. Unavoidable trouble but the hosts were very accommodating and did give a full refund. Lake Michigan was stunning in the winter and would be equally beautiful in the summer. So only 3 stars but not really the owners or the house, just the weekend itself I guess.
We are very sorry this happened. Our housekeeper got the house ready two days prior to the arrival of our guests. Everything seemed to be ok at that time. Unfortunately, the heat exchanger failed, which was beyond our control. Luckily our tenants were able to find a new place to stay closeby. They wanted to have the 3 nights at a different time, but we were not able to accomodate them with their time schedule. We appreciate their understanding and refunded the total money. This has never happened before. We now have a new heat exchanger.
Truly a special place
This was our third stay at Soedings. It was just as glorious as ever. This place is truly special! Whether you're looking for a lovely few days as a getaway for you and your spouse/significant other...or for families or a small group of friends. The location is perfect...not too far out of town and right on the water of the Big Lake. So much to say. The house itself is impeccably well maintained. It is so well worth the extra dollars. We will be back as often as we can.
Harbor Springs is Home Away From Home
Our family has vacationed in Michigan for the past nine years with the last five years being in the Harbor Springs, Good Hart area. We absolutely love this little piece of Paradise! This year four generations of our family, six adults and one toddler, stayed at the Soeding's Sandcastle in August. The Sandcastle is located on a prized piece of property, that is for sure! The water here is amazingly beautiful, clear and turquoise blue. The beach at this particular cabin is quite rocky, but we could still play in the sand with our one year old granddaughter and walk the beach just about as far as you want to in either direction. We rented kayaks for the adventurers in the group to explore the shoreline from The Outfitters in Harbor Springs, whom we highly recommend. They offer a really convenient service with drop off and pickup right at your rental property. The views from the Sandcastle are absolutely stunning in any direction. There is a lot of steps in the interior and exterior of the home. There is two parking areas which are very nice with plenty of room. We cooked most of our meals during our stay with the exception of a visit to Turkey's Pizza (yum) and Douglas Steak House (Always a Hit!). The kitchen is tiny, but very well stocked. It has just about anything you would need to cook a meal. The beds were comfortable and there is adequate seating inside and outside. The house wasn't as clean as I would prefer. Most days there is a nice breeze off of the Lake with the exception of a few hot humid days. This house has a nice fan for visitors to use; however, you may want to take an extra fan for those hot humid nights. The homeowner requests recycling to be dropped off at IGA in Harbor Springs. It can be inconvenient making special trips to IGA to recycle and the recycling adds up especially when you cook every meal and have several guests staying with you. We did the best we could making several times during our stay. This isn't an unusual request during your stay in this area, which I commend them for, but usually the homeowner has recycling bins available at the home for the convenience of the visitor and they normally dispose of the plastics, etc. themselves. We enjoyed our stay in Harbor Springs very much! Thank you Otto and Erika for sharing your Castle with our family. We wish you the very best with your future endeavors.
Great place. Needs a little outside maintenance
A Perfect Getaway at the beach!
We loved our girls week at Soedings. This is the best appointed rental we’ve ever stayed at. The owners have thoughtfully provided all you need to enjoy the beautiful setting and rocky beach. Comfortable beds, a nice large seating area in the living/dining room and a lovely large deck overlooking the beach. Nicely maintained steps to the beach where there are beach chairs and toys provided for your use. Close to Harbor Springs and Petoskey.
Thank you so very much for the wonderful review. We appreciate it. It was a pleasure working with you and we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay,
Otto and Erika.
A perfect beach house, which we've now enjoyed several years running. We got lucky with the weather this year, too -- nothing but beach days and beautiful sunsets, with a perfect deck to enjoy them. Can't do better for an up north vacation.
Thank you so very much for your nice review, which is much appreciated. It was great to have you stay at our cottage for the third time,
Erika and Otto
