I will be back I promise! The home is incredible! Everything was so convenient to get to! We had so much fun we stayed a extra day and Karin the owner was so accommodating! Going to schedule for next year. I promise you will not regret booking this home!!!
We've stayed in many rental homes around the world and this was one of the hardest to leave! Our family of four (two teenagers) stayed in this wonderful beach house for a week in late August (8/17-23/16). The location is fantastic!! While the driveway entrance is just off the small but busy Kamehameha Hwy (one lane each direction), the home is set back far enough that you don't hear much of the traffic at all. Just walk out the back, through the lovely, well maintained backyard and down three stone steps and voila! Your toes hit sand, your eyes feast on the gorgeous view and everything else just melts away.
There is a good BBQ place across the street but we took advantage of the well equipped kitchen and cooked almost all of our meals. The master bedroom and bathroom can get pretty warm as the AC doesn't reach that far but we found that keeping the bathroom and french doors closed and leaving the fans on worked very well. The owner has obviously worked very hard to renovate and lovingly decorate the beach house. It felt like home to us and the pictures provided do not do it justice!
The kids made good use of the 7/11 across the street and we were able to buy a few items there without having to go back to the grocery store. The house is located on the North end of the Windward (East) side of Oahu which is nice as the North Shore is very popular among tourists and locals alike and can get very congested in the Summer. But why leave the beach house anyway when you can enjoy your own piece of paradise just beyond the backyard?! Note: Fishermen like to climb down from the park next door to the little beach out back so just put our your beach chairs, towels, etc. early to stake your area... seems to do the trick. As mentioned in a previous review, you can snorkel right out back but water shoes are highly recommended and if you want to snorkel elsewhere, head out early so you can get a parking spot.
We're still pining to be back at this lovely beach house and we live in San Diego, just minutes from the beach. You will not be disappointed with this rental!
We loved this house and enjoyed our week in Hawaii! Well stocked with everything you will need. They have a variety of spices for cooking, all the housewares you will need to enjoy your stay. Boogie boards, snorkels and beach towels along with chairs to sit at beach. Air conditioning in main living area and fans in bedrooms to keep you cool. We loved the covered outpost porch and barbecues a couple times. Loved our private beach area and enjoyed sitting out on beach looking at sunrise. Owner was readily available to answer any questions!
A couple tips: Bring reusable bags as all grocery stores charge for them. No closets in bedroom but one in main hallway. Coffee supplied but if you want real creamer, need to go to local area grocery store. There are a lot at little BBQ places around to eat ;).
This house was built in 1942 but is really well laid out. All the comforts of home. There are snorkeling items, boogie boards and beach towels. Everything you will need to enjoy the private beach. We loved our stay here and would book it again!!
Thanks Karin for a wonderful experience!!
This home was exactly as advertised. Literally waking up to the waves lapping at the beach, and the sunrise each morning! Ate dinner on the covered lanai almost every night, and even had a "Honu" visit out in the water one evening! The home is very clean, well-maintained, with privacy and lots of amenities. It was truly a "home away from home" for our vacation. Having a kitchen with ample plates, pans, utensils, etc., as well as a full washer and dryer was so great! The gated entry helped you feel more secluded, but the park next door does fill up with campers during the weekends...something to keep in mind. We were in and out, touring the island, but felt right at home once we were there. Spent a lot of time outside reading, looking out at and listening to the ocean, and relaxing. A great place to get away from the hustle of Waikiki and Honolulu, but still able to travel to all the key tourist spots on the island. Rained quite a bit during our trip, but a quick drive to another areas on the island and we were in sun. Almost constant temperatures (82 by day 75 by night), and Karin was quick to respond to questions, provide info, and the rental, check-in and stay were all smooth. Highly recommend this home for your vacation!
We had a lovely stay at this house with 3 generations. The house was just as advertised with the added bonus of a lovely, large, shaded patio in the back. This overlooked the back yard and the ocean. There were two reclining chairs as well as a table and chairs that easily accommodate the 6 of us. This was a wonderful place to start and end the day.
It was cozy and comfortable and the location was WONDERFUL. We were out of the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and half way to the North Shore. Most of the places that we wanted to visit weren't much more than an hour away. (The speed limit in most areas is 35-45 MPH so it takes a bit longer to get places but it just gave us more time to enjoy the view!)
There was a full kitchen and an outside grill. I would suggest getting your food for the week at Foodland which is just a bit North of the house. With small children along ( ages 5 and 3) we ended up eating breakfast at the house and we ate out at noon. We came back at the house for simple dinners so we weren't trying to get tired children to cooperate in a restaurant later in the day.
We used the book "Oahu Revealed" as our guidebook and were very happy. We were also happy that we took the suggestion of getting bamboo mats ($2 at WalMart) for everyone for the beach. These were MUCH easier to deal with than towels full of sand. We were able to go to several beaches where we used the mats and a beach umbrella that we purchased. The umbrella is another "must" if you are going to the beach as not all of them have shaded areas for those of us with fair skin. We left the beach umbrella that we bought at the house so we hope others get some good out of it. (Be sure to bring along something to serve as a weight to keep the umbrella from blowing away. We anchored it with bag filled with bottled water) We also looked for beaches with "facilities" including bathrooms and showers to wash off the sand before we got back into the car. Not all beaches have them so scout them out before you decide whether you are going to stay.
The property was clean and very well maintained. Karin was just a phone call away if we had questions.
If you are looking for a place to relax and to enjoy the beauty of Oahu without all of the craziness and busy traffic in the city, this is the place for you. I would recommend this house for anyone and everyone!
My sister and brother-in-law and my husband and I stayed here for 9 days and had a great time. The house is very private enclosed on both sides by walls/bushes. Right on the beach. We got up at 5 am and watched the sun rise every morning. This house is on the side of the island where the locals live so it's quiet. The tourist area is on the other side with all the traffic and noise. The master bedroom has 2 sets of french doors that open right up onto the covered patio where there is a table with 6 chairs and a couple of reclining chairs. We spent most of our time on the patio watching and listening to the waves and basking in the continuous breezes. Walk off the patio and across a small grassy yard and you are on the beach. Calm enough for snorkelling--some little fish to watch! I would recommend you bring water shoes because there are a lot of rocks. The house/yard is very well maintained and clean. Nice well-equipped kitchen and full-size washer/dryer. It is an older house, but it has everything you need for a great vacation. If you want to be in the middle of all the tourist noise and confusion, you do not want this house. But if you are looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy the surroundings, you have found what you are looking for. There is a small BBQ restaurant and a 7/11 across the street. Karin, the owner, was very helpful and available whenever we had a question. We highly recommend this rental.
Located on the country side of the island you are away from all the crowds of Waikiki. Kualoa Ranch is about a 5 min. drive east . The ranch has lots of activities for all ages, restaurants, tours and horseback riding.
