This was our second family vacation to Gloucester/Rockport area. This year we decided to do vacation rental by owner. We were all in agreement that staying in the cottage was more suitable and enjoyable for our family as opposed to staying in a nearby motel. Excellent location and Marilyn is a pleasure to deal with. This is a quiet area, and can fit four people comfortably. We were allowed to bring our dogs which made our trip complete.
This quaint little cottage by the sea was a perfect get-a-way for my husband and myself. We had our dog with us so we mostly cooked and ate at home. Great little Weber gill, full sized frig and galley kitchen was just enough. Comfortable seating area. Comfortable beds, beautiful linens.
A beautiful view you enjoy in Adirondack chairs or you can take a walk and sit on the rocks and watch the waves. If you are looking for a beach there is a cove near by or with a decent walk you can be at Pebble beach.
Marilyn was wonderful to work with, we definitely hope to go back!
The cottage is small and charming. A little weathered, but very clean and comfortable. The landlord is casual and friendly. There are rabbits all over the lawn; the cottage community is quiet; there is a lovely water view, and the location is perfect. It's in walking distance to two beaches: the dog beach at the end of the road, which has dramatic tides and a thriving eco-system. This is not well-used but there is always someone to talk to. Great for crabbing. Water shoes are recommended. Pebble beach is a short, 15 minute walk away. A walk into town takes a half hour along a tree-lined street. The supermarket is a ten-minute drive. I enjoyed every minute of my stay and would recommend the property without reserve.
We had a great time the cottage was very comfortable and a great place to come back to at the end of our day. We had 5 adults and were not cramped the cottage is centrally located and easy to get to with beautiful sun rises over Cape Ann. Marilyn made us feel very comfortable and the cottage was spotless upon arrival.
Our family of 5 found the cottage to be a beautiful location to explore Cape Ann and the surrounding areas. The cottage met our needs and expectations, providing an authentic New England coastal town experience. The location was very quiet and provided many opportunities to enjoy the nearby coves, beaches and towns. We were happy that we could use the kitchen to prepare many of our meals as that is a nice alternative to dining out at every meal.
Marilyn was very helpful with information about the cottage, helping us with driving directions and was our local source of recommendations for activities, restaurants and sights we would enjoy.
We highly recommend the cottage to couples or families looking for a great getaway in the wonderful area of Cape Ann and Rockport.
Our family had a terrific vacation at this quaint cottage over labor day weekend! Initially, we were a little concerned when we read a bad review which said this house didn't have a good view of the ocean and which also seemed to indicate the prior guests weren't happy. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised when we realized we could see the ocean from both front windows! Although it's not on the beach, you get a quiet, camp-like setting in a small development of similar cottages that were occupied by a mix of young families and older retirees the week we were there. This cottage is one of the few cottages on this hillside development which does have an ocean view from inside the home. It is also located in the corner of the development, which means you can setup chairs around the side of the house while you BBQ on the charcoal grill if you are looking for some privacy. The appliances are a little dated but we loved it as it helped to give it more of a 'cottage' feel. Marilyn, the landlord, was great and very responsive. For the price, it is a fantastic value and great alternative to the hotels in town, especially if you are like us and prefer to cook your own meals and park your bikes right outside your front door!
Rocky Shores Wee Cottage by the Sea stroll to Cape Hedge and Pebble Beaches, view the Thacher Island Twin Lighthouses, launch your kayaks across the street in Loblolly Cove, fish off Emerson Point, enjoy the galleries, restaurants, shops and museums of Cape Ann - Rockport, Gloucester, Essex and Manchester. Tranquil retreat-like setting - easy train commute to Boston and her historic North Shore.
