Secluded Beachside Home on Harstine Island

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,100 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Beach house, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6, just a few steps from the beach

You'll love our beach house on Harstine Island's southern tip. Take in stunning views of the Olympic Mountains, Squaxin Island and Peale Passage from the huge deck and the rock, gravel and sand beach. Wander and explore the expansive tidelands. Comb the endless beach for sand dollars, sea shells, driftwood and other treasures while enjoying the solitude of one of Puget Sound's undiscovered gems. Bring your boat or use ours. Larger boats can be moored on our buoy. Swim, fish and crab in the clean waters of Puget Sound.

Most of the beaches on Harstine Island are privately owned, including all of the beaches you can access by walking from the house. All of the owners allow people to walk along their beaches, but gathering shellfish (clams, oysters and geoduck) by our guests is prohibited on these private beaches. Property owners are very concerned about people taking shellfish from their beaches, so I ask that you please respect their property.

The beach in front of my property has been over-harvested of its shellfish, so to allow nature to recover we are asking guests to only gather shellfish on the public beaches on the island. There is more information below on the public beaches and in the guidebooks at the house.

My bulkhead, made of large concrete blocks, is 100 feet long, and covers the width of my property. My beach goes all the way out to the lowest low tide point. You are free to walk on any part of my beach and neighboring beaches, north or south, but please DO NOT gather shellfish from the beach directly in front of the house or from neighboring beaches.

If you are planning to gather shellfish, you can drive to several public beaches on the island. One is Harstine Island State Park, which requires a short hike to the beach (DNR-24 beach) and is open to the public for clams and oysters all year. You can walk south on this beach for about a mile and you'll reach McMicken Island State Park, where there is also great shell fishing. Plan to be there at low tide for the best shell fishing. Here is the web address for more information about these beaches:

Wonderful through and through

Great cabin - fully stocked. Quiet and secluded. We had a wonderful weekend recharging at Steve's cabin. Would not hesitate to rent again!

What a great place!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family spent a wonderful week here. The cabin was clean, lots of helpful landlord notes/guides around and very well stocked with all you need. Good internet to boot! Wonderful location for views and enjoying what the tide changes bring. Taking a kayak trip was very relaxing and nice to have those on-site.

We traveled to various national parks and bare in mind the remoteness of this location will add to your time to get to any place but well worth it. We had this side of the shore to ourselves (Sept during the week) and really added to our enjoyment.

We have stayed in a lot of VRBO places over the years and we can say this is one of those gems!

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is truly a magical place. The home is beautiful, equipped with everything you need. You can tell it was created with love. We had a great time on the beach and especially LOVED access to all the different water toys like kayaks and canoes. The island is beautiful and secluded, just what we wanted. I can't wait to come again for an anniversary!

The cabin is very inviting, the owners have thought of everything you may need to make your stay relaxing. Even fresh marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers! The kayaks are great and there are plenty of board games for your entertainment. The kitchen is very well appointed. We can't wait to go back!

Magical Island Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Look no further! Rent this cabin! You will not be disappointed. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and cozy. And the spectacular, sweeping view of Puget Sound is simply breathtaking. I can't tell you how good it was for my family to be there, to relax, unwind, and inhale nature. It was good for the soul! We have rented many beautiful vacation homes before, but have only wanted to return to a handful. This place is one in the handful. It will forever be etched in my memory as somewhere special, somewhere magical indeed. We needed to be here. Maybe you do too.

The cabin isn't fancy, but it is very nice. We slept well every night on comfortable beds. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. It was even stocked with spices, sugar, flour, s'more ingredients, and some extra food. All appliances worked well. The living room had plenty of fun vhs videos and games. There were even binoculars to view the wildlife. The huge windows in the living area framed the awe inspiring view of the Sound. The pictures on this site do not do the view justice. We felt so spoiled every morning drinking coffee outside on the deck taking in God's creation. I enjoyed reading on the hammock in the afternoons.

Our two younger children 12 and 17 had plenty to do from exploring the beach at low tide, making a video of themselves singing "How Far I'll Go" from Moana, playing games, hanging out on the hammock, kayaking, and giggling at night in the bunkbed room. As a family, we went to the east side of the Olympic National Forest, we took a long all day kayaking trip over to Hope Island, played games, bbqed, roasted marshmallows, painted, sketched, and just hung out with each other. We saw jelly fish, eagles, many sea birds and other birds, crabs, shell fish, other fish, raccoons on Hope Island, Harbor Seals, deer, etc.

July is a great time to go. The weather was amazing, and there was minimal rain. In fact, it rained more in our hometown of Tucson, AZ than it did while we were in WA. We sure were spoiled with nice just right weather.

Before you go, make sure you are stocked up on food because the nearest real grocery store is about 30 minutes away in Sheldon. Also, bring water shoes to wade around in. The beach is rocky. It got a little cool at night for us Tucsonans, so you may want to bring a sweatshirt. The kayaks are heavy, especially the double one. Make sure to kayak out into the Sound and then turn around for the beautiful view of Mt. Rainier. Enjoy!
