You'll love our beach house on Harstine Island's southern tip. Take in stunning views of the Olympic Mountains, Squaxin Island and Peale Passage from the huge deck and the rock, gravel and sand beach. Wander and explore the expansive tidelands. Comb the endless beach for sand dollars, sea shells, driftwood and other treasures while enjoying the solitude of one of Puget Sound's undiscovered gems. Bring your boat or use ours. Larger boats can be moored on our buoy. Swim, fish and crab in the clean waters of Puget Sound.
Most of the beaches on Harstine Island are privately owned, including all of the beaches you can access by walking from the house. All of the owners allow people to walk along their beaches, but gathering shellfish (clams, oysters and geoduck) by our guests is prohibited on these private beaches. Property owners are very concerned about people taking shellfish from their beaches, so I ask that you please respect their property.
The beach in front of my property has been over-harvested of its shellfish, so to allow nature to recover we are asking guests to only gather shellfish on the public beaches on the island. There is more information below on the public beaches and in the guidebooks at the house.
My bulkhead, made of large concrete blocks, is 100 feet long, and covers the width of my property. My beach goes all the way out to the lowest low tide point. You are free to walk on any part of my beach and neighboring beaches, north or south, but please DO NOT gather shellfish from the beach directly in front of the house or from neighboring beaches.
If you are planning to gather shellfish, you can drive to several public beaches on the island. One is Harstine Island State Park, which requires a short hike to the beach (DNR-24 beach) and is open to the public for clams and oysters all year. You can walk south on this beach for about a mile and you'll reach McMicken Island State Park, where there is also great shell fishing. Plan to be there at low tide for the best shell fishing. Here is the web address for more information about these beaches:
Just stayed with a few buddies and this place is awesome! The view is unreal and the cabin is extremely private/quiet. It's stocked with tons of amenities, including kayaks and even a crab pot. I would love to go back!
This was a great place to stay. Parts of my family came together from different parts of the country and we all had a great time. Having the use of the boats and kayaks was a real treat. Everything you would want. Laying in the hammock, lounging on the deck, playing on the water, and a variety of games all provided. I would definitely recommend this property on Harstine Island. I was a bit surprised when I started down the driveway. I have a big F350 with a shell on the back so when I started down I decided to walk it first to make sure I could get out. Steep, but no problem. One of my grandsons and his wife talked about staying here for a get away. This quiet secluded beachside home was perfect for our family vacation.
Such a great place inside and out, even better then advertised in the listing and pictures. The inside was tastefully decorated with local and native art. Lots of extras, had all the comforts of home. We enjoyed spending time indoors watching a rainstorm. The wraparound deck was awesome, and with the roof, we were even able to sit outside during the rain. Nice view from the hammock, that was very relaxing. We were able to wade out at low tide in our chest waders and get a few red rock crabs...found out my waders leak. We appreciated being able to use the kayaks and explore the area. We were so happy to find a dog friendly place. We didn't want to leave our pup behind, so that was a must and the owner made it clear that it was a dog friendly home.
The owner was very helpful. The directions to get to and into the home were spot on.
I would definitely recommend this property to my friends and family. I expect that we'll stay there again some time in the future.
This comfortable house has all the amenities you could want, a well appointed modern kitchen, comfy and tastefully decorated living and bedrooms. Its spacious and light from all the windows and skylights. But the best feature is the wrap around deck that faces west for a constantly changing scene of the sound, mountains, clouds, etc. due to weather and tides. One could happily spend the whole day on the deck and not be bored! The beachfront house is set in the trees so it has a secluded feel even though there are houses nearby. We would recommend this to anyone from a large family or a romantic getaway. This is a fabulous find and we hope to return sometime soon.
I can not say enough great things about this beautiful home and its amazing location! The home was spacious, nicely decorated, very well stocked with anything you could think of needing, and RIGHT on the water. The location is so quiet; aside from the birds chirping and water rolling on to the beach of course :) My partner and I brought our dogs, and they had an amazing time as well.
The house has kayaks, crab pots, and a canoe. Nothing like launching a kayak right off of the bulkhead and cruising through the sound first thing in the morning.
I can not say enough great things about this location. We are already planning a return trip!
I came here with a group of friends and my dog and we all had a blast. I really don't know where to begin...The house is a great size and decorated really well. The kitchen was stocked better than mine! I was worried that the single bathroom would be a problem for a group of 8 adults, but it really wasn't.
The view from the house and deck is amazing. During the day we spent much of our time out on the provided kayaks and canoe. During low tide you can see a bunch of huge starfish, crabs, sea anemone, and we even caught a glimpse of a seal in the evening. Also had a couple of bald eagles hanging out on nearby trees. It felt like paradise.
I also want to mention how nice their neighbors are. They gave us pointers on crabbing, even lending a crab pot to my friend (she caught 3 crabs!) and they also gifted us a geoduck they caught. Aside from the crabbing, we also dug up some clams, which I've been told were delicious (several of us are vegetarians).
Definitely would recommend and will probably return in the near future. :)
