Why Tony Jacobs chose Northern Michigan

Quite frankly, we were a bit disappointed when we first moved to Michigan from Anchorage, AK. Our active lifestyle in Alaska, became difficult to maintain when we no longer had the mountains to climb or the miles of groomed ski trails to traverse. An anniversary trip to Traverse City (without the children) changed our minds about Michigan and we began looking for vacation rental property. It took us about 7 months, but we believe we found the perfect place.

We were looking for a house to hold many family members for a wedding in Traverse City. We are so happy we found this home. It was perfect for our needs. Lots of room. The game room in the basement was a big hit with the family. The bedrooms are big and the beds are comfortable. The back yard was great for hanging out and for making s'mores. The store next door is very nice and has good pizza. Nice and clean. Tony was great to work with. Very easy drive to Traverse City, Beach, Wineries, and Shopping. We had a great time. If you are looking for a great place to stay for a nice vacation. Look no further. This is the place.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we entered the house our party of 10 scattered into different parts of the house exploring. It has a very unique layout and is spacious. The game room was an instant hit for the whole family. The arcade game brought back the childhood memories of playing Atari. Air conditioning was powerful and kept us cool during our stay. The kitchen is overly stocked which made making meals a breeze. I love that the house was also stocked with basic essentials like, handsoap, toilet paper, laundry soap and dryer sheets, cleaning sprays. I have stayed at rental properties in the past that were not stocked as well as this and it does make it less comfortable when you have to run out and grab things you assume to be in the home. Also, this house was very clean, and had a great scent when we walked in, especially for a place that seems to have frequent renters. As we were leaving, the cleaning crew was already on site. Long Lake is beautiful. It is a short walk less than 3 minutes from the house. The kayaks came in great for exploring Picnic Island which is about 30 minutes of kayaking from shore. We read about swimmers itch being prominent in this lake so as prevention we used sunblock and immediately showered after returning home from the lake and not a sign of swimmers itch on all 10 of us, although the weather was a little on the cooler side and it is said that swimmers itch thrives in warmer temperatures. One issue we had was that the dryer did not dry efficiently it took several repeats of cycles to fully dry a single load. The store next door was extremely convenient for just about anything you needed. We also spent a day at Torch Lake about 45 minutes away and rented a boat. What a beautiful place that makes you feel like you're in the Caribbean. I definitely recommend this rental to you!

Perfect vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

House had plenty of room. Originally planned on having 9 people staying, but half weren't able to make it, so it was just my family of 4. There was a lot of room and 6+ additional people would have had no problem. The kids enjoyed the ping pong table and video game machine. It was nice having a small beach across the street (with use of kayaks), a convenient store next door (with pizza!), and local mall and stores within 20 minutes. The kitchen, living room, and master queen bedroom were huge and gave everyone plenty of room to split up. It was also nice having a washer and dryer so we didn't have to go home and do laundry before the weekend was over. We went during the week of the National Cherry Festival which everyone enjoyed, and there was plenty to do around town to keep everyone happy - even when everyone said "can we not do anything today and just stay at the house and relax?" We all thoroughly enjoyed our week vacation in Traverse City and Halcyon House!!!

Awesome location! Awesome House!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for the perfect vacation home, this is it. The convienent location is right across the street from a great beach and picnic area. Having a small grocery store almost next door was helpful. And the house had plenty of room for 5 kids and 6 adults. Having 3 bathrooms and central air for our 2 muggy days was priceless. Nice backyard for eating outside and campfires. The refrigerator is large enough to hold lots of food, and the water pressure is strong and no well water smell! Enough dishes for all of your guests. The kids loved the ping pong table downstairs and there are lots of different areas to hang out in. We used the kayaks every day. Long Lake is beautiful and we rented a boat one day and you can temporarily tie up at the dock on the beach. And having a washer and dryer is also a nice perk! Meijers and WalMart are just a short drive away.

We were just a 20 minute drive from Lake Michigan and lots of tourist attractions.

The owners are great to deal with and were quick to respond to our questions.

You will have a great stay!

Group of 8 enjoyed long weekend at Halcyon House

  • 5 of 5

We found Halcyon House to be affordable, well equipped and very comfortable for our group of 8 adults and one baby. With couples and singles in the group, all were able to have the privacy and comfort we wanted and enjoy group time in the kitchen and living room areas. There is even more room in the Teen Room that we did not utilize. The property is well located with a recreational beach, Traverse City and Empire Beach nearby. Most of our activities took place in Traverse City and we found that a very easy drive to and from the house. Interested parties with pets or small children should be aware that the property is on a fairly traveled street. However, street noise is not an issue, and with proper supervision, this should pose no problem. I will recommend this property to friends or relatives planning to travel to the Traverse City area.
