|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
This bright, airy Vineyard saltbox underwent a complete renovation in 2009. Everything inside is new, including the furnishings and linens. The kitchen is immaculate and fully-equipped, including all new appliances (gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher). There are 3 new skylights, new Andersen windows throughout, and French doors leading to a large deck. This island get-away has central heat and central air-conditioning, and a beautiful mahogany outdoor shower. It is set back over 100 feet from the road, providing privacy with easy accessibility. Enjoy a short walk to the village for groceries, pharmacy and coffee. Bike to beautiful Lambert's Cove Beach, which is accessible only to West Tisbury residents and their lessees. This two-story home is truly Ideal for the whole family with its first floor queen-size bedroom and full bath, and its second floor queen-size bedroom, large second bedroom with three beds, and a 3/4 bath.
David and I have both lived in New England our whole lives. He spent summers visiting family in Orchard Beach, ME or going to the White Mountains; I visited family at Revere Beach or in New Jersey. On our first vacation together in 1977, we went to the White Mountains. In 1978, we vacationed in a tiny one-bedroom cottage in Vineyard Haven on Martha’s Vineyard. We had no telephone (and no cell phones!!), limited TV channels, and the world’s nicest couple as our hosts. We fell in love with the beaches, the restaurants, the peacefulness, and the wonderful couple who owned the tiny cottage. We stayed there for one week every summer for the next 9 years until we had an opportunity to buy a place of our own.
David Steinberg purchased this house in 1986
We want our guests to have a wonderful experience when they visit our home and the Island. We want you to find everything you need to make your stay enjoyable waiting for you at the house. This includes clean comfortable beds; a large state-of-the-art TV; a gas grille with grilling tools; a well-equipped kitchen (although we do not provide food); two bathrooms plus an outdoor shower, and more. You can also enjoy a morning walk to the village where you can get breakfast or pick-up a few groceries and freshly brewed coffee. Our house is professionally cleaned, well-maintained, well-equipped, and easily accessible to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
One of the many things we love about our home is its location. In the center of the island, you're never far from any of the more "touristy" areas while you're enjoying the Up-Island quiet. You can spend the day at the beach, sightseeing, or visiting shoppes, and come back to a comfortable, relaxing home where you can cook on the grille, watch TV or movies (there are many DVD's at the house and we have access to many movie channels), play board games, or just sit out on the deck and enjoy Mother Nature. You're also just over 2 1/2 miles from Lambert's Cove Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. (As our guests, you would be eligible to purchase beach passes for Lambert's Cove, which is private for West Tisbury residents.)
Note from Diane B (Pleasant Mount, PA) - Your home was perfect for our mini vacation at Martha's Vineyard. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and were able to appreciate the atmosphere of the island. We are looking forward to returning someday as the time we spent was not nearly enough to do everything we wanted to do.
We cannot thank you enough for allowing us to stay a bit longer on our last day as our ferry didn't leave until 7:15 PM. We were able to enjoy the day and not feel rushed to get packed up and move out. So thank you very much.
Again, thank you for sharing a piece of "paradise" with us and allowing the little extra time.
The house was very comfortable and clean and served our needs perfectly. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and we especially loved the games.
We also enjoyed sitting out on the deck which was very quiet and private.
Aside from echoing the comments of other reviewers, I can only add that I was pretty impressed with how fresh the renovations still look in spite of their now being about six years old. It's a testament to the work the owners have done to keep the place clean and in good shape. What you can't appreciate from the photos and description is the perfect combination of light and shade that you enjoy both inside the cottage and on the deck. Even both bathrooms have natural light coming in from at least one window or skylight. While the bathrooms are not huge, they're a bit more generous than some other places we've stayed in. The beds are extremely comfortable, firm mattresses, but with pillow tops. Even the linens, towels and sheets, we nicer than I expected. The kitchen is pretty well equipped if you prefer to eat in most of the time. There are some beach chairs and a beach umbrella available in the laundry room. In good weather, the deck is like another living space, on which you can enjoy a consistent chorus of birds, punctuated by the occasional call of a rooster (whom we dubbed Coq au Vin). State Road is on the busy side, so you do get a little traffic noise, but the house does sit well back from the road, so it doesn't feel intrusive. Since you can also get from one side of the island to the other on State Road, it's pretty darned convenient to whatever you want to do. Bike paths start within 500 feet of the house going each way. You can pick it up leading down-island on the house side of the road at Island Farm Road, and you can pick up another bike trail leading up-island at South Indian Hill Road. The house is also near bus stops, if you'd prefer to take the bus into one of the busier areas, like Oak Bluffs or Edgartown. Some of the nicest hikes we went on, Cedar Tree Neck, Menemsha Hills, Fulling Mill Brook, and Peaked Hill, were very near the house. One word of caution, if you're hiking or just making your way to one of the less public beaches, beware of both poison ivy and ticks. We did eat at the State Road Restaurant, which is less than a mile from the house, and it was delicious, though pricey. We also went for the Friday night lobster rolls at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven. The size of these lobster rolls is in no way exaggerated. You may want to skip lunch. Bottom line, this is a great place to relax after busy days of exploration.
We were very impressed with this lovely rental property! It was centrally located to all the towns on the island, and close to beaches, great breakfast spots, and art & glass galleries. This spacious home was nestled among the trees, with a delightful patio and outdoor grill to enjoy. French doors opened up to the patio, which was an unexpected bonus. It was the perfect place to enjoy our morning coffee before heading out for a day of adventure on the Vineyard; it was also the perfect spot to enjoy wine & cocktails after a day of fun. Everything was exceptionally clean and modern. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were really comfortable, with extra-thick mattress pads and what appeared to be new pillows. The bathrooms were spotless and it appeared that everything had been totally remodeled within the past several years. The kitchen and dining area were perfect for our needs and the full dining room could easily seat 8-10 people. We were pleasantly surprised to find a large screen TV and full cable TV. We weren't planning on watching much television during our stay but it was sure nice to come back from a long day of sightseeing and just relax and watch a movie. There were lots of family games available to play, too, but we were just tired for Scrabble! The home owners (Dave and Nancy Steinberg) were a pleasure to deal with and were able to answer all our questions about ferry service, getting around the island, best beaches, etc. We would absolutely recommend this rental property and we look forward to returning next year!
It was everything we wanted, clean, comfortable, spacious, and convenient to anyplace on the Island. I felt like I was in my own home. The property is situated almost equidistant from any beach or attraction on the Island. It's the perfect vacation spot, especially sitting out on the porch unwinding from the days activities.
I enjoyed staying here last year, so I decided to return to this same lovely house for a few days this spring. It's still as charming as I remembered it. The location is great, with a walking distance to some stores and coffee shops. Everything in the house is clean, neat and organized. It is so peaceful and quiet sitting on the deck or just walking around the spacious yard. It's a perfect place for a quick getaway or a long relaxing stay. I will definitely be returning to this delightful house in the near future. Thank you.
The house was recently renovated, is very well-maintained and is kept extremely clean. The children really enjoyed the private yard. The house is close to the village in relatively rural West Tisbury and is within an easy drive of many Vineyard attractions.
