About David Steinberg
David and I have both lived in New England our whole lives. He spent summers visiting family in Orchard Beach, ME or going to the White Mountains; I visited family at Revere Beach or in New Jersey. On our first vacation together in 1977, we went to the White Mountains. In 1978, we vacationed in a tiny one-bedroom cottage in Vineyard Haven on Martha’s Vineyard. We had no telephone (and no cell phones!!), limited TV channels, and the world’s nicest couple as our hosts. We fell in love with the beaches, the restaurants, the peacefulness, and the wonderful couple who owned the tiny cottage. We stayed there for one week every summer for the next 9 years until we had an opportunity to buy a place of our own.
David Steinberg purchased this House in 1986
Why David Steinberg chose West Tisbury
We want our guests to have a wonderful experience when they visit our home and the Island. We want you to find everything you need to make your stay enjoyable waiting for you at the house. This includes clean comfortable beds; a large state-of-the-art TV; a gas grille with grilling tools; a well-equipped kitchen (although we do not provide food); two bathrooms plus an outdoor shower, and more. You can also enjoy a morning walk to the village where you can get breakfast or pick-up a few groceries and freshly brewed coffee. Our house is professionally cleaned, well-maintained, well-equipped, and easily accessible to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
What makes this House unique
One of the many things we love about our home is its location. In the center of the island, you're never far from any of the more "touristy" areas while you're enjoying the Up-Island quiet. You can spend the day at the beach, sightseeing, or visiting shoppes, and come back to a comfortable, relaxing home where you can cook on the grille, watch TV or movies (there are many DVD's at the house and we have access to many movie channels), play board games, or just sit out on the deck and enjoy Mother Nature. You're also just over 2 1/2 miles from Lambert's Cove Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. (As our guests, you would be eligible to purchase beach passes for Lambert's Cove, which is private for West Tisbury residents.)

Great spot for our first time on MV!
Can't say enough good things about David's house! From initial contact through the time leading up to our stay David was very prompt in responding to all questions. The house was super clean and very comfortable. We will definitely stay here in the future!!!
Thanks Steve. It was our pleasure. See you next year.
Clean and Convenient
We very much enjoyed our stay here! The house was very clean and fairly centrally located to major attractions. Our 3 year old daughter LOVED the little bed in the alcove and the colorful nightlights upstairs. The owner was extremely responsive and provided helpful information about the area. There are many excellent dining options a short drive away. Our favorite place to have breakfast on the go was right down the street at 7a - get the biscuit breakfast sandwiches every chance you get!!!! There is also the Scottish Bakehouse and The Little House on State Rd that are very good. State Road restaurant is right up the road a bit...most delicious dinner! Make reservations though...even in the off-season.
Downside of staying here is that you're not really in walking distance of anything and State Rd is fairly busy. However, Lambert's Cove is close by and is one of the best, if not THE best, beach on the entire island. We spent a lot of time here. Go early. Go often. Stay for the sunsets.
Great home up island.
David has a very clean and organized home. Good for adults and or kids. Far enough in from main road that kids cld play safely. Large deck to enjoy for dinner and/or relaxing. Clean bathrooms and kitchen with everything needed to cook and make a meal. Has everything you need for a relaxing stay.
We loved it!
The house was very comfortable and clean and served our needs perfectly. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and we especially loved the games.
We also enjoyed sitting out on the deck which was very quiet and private.
Clean, cozy, and well-equipped
Aside from echoing the comments of other reviewers, I can only add that I was pretty impressed with how fresh the renovations still look in spite of their now being about six years old. It's a testament to the work the owners have done to keep the place clean and in good shape. What you can't appreciate from the photos and description is the perfect combination of light and shade that you enjoy both inside the cottage and on the deck. Even both bathrooms have natural light coming in from at least one window or skylight. While the bathrooms are not huge, they're a bit more generous than some other places we've stayed in. The beds are extremely comfortable, firm mattresses, but with pillow tops. Even the linens, towels and sheets, we nicer than I expected. The kitchen is pretty well equipped if you prefer to eat in most of the time. There are some beach chairs and a beach umbrella available in the laundry room. In good weather, the deck is like another living space, on which you can enjoy a consistent chorus of birds, punctuated by the occasional call of a rooster (whom we dubbed Coq au Vin). State Road is on the busy side, so you do get a little traffic noise, but the house does sit well back from the road, so it doesn't feel intrusive. Since you can also get from one side of the island to the other on State Road, it's pretty darned convenient to whatever you want to do. Bike paths start within 500 feet of the house going each way. You can pick it up leading down-island on the house side of the road at Island Farm Road, and you can pick up another bike trail leading up-island at South Indian Hill Road. The house is also near bus stops, if you'd prefer to take the bus into one of the busier areas, like Oak Bluffs or Edgartown. Some of the nicest hikes we went on, Cedar Tree Neck, Menemsha Hills, Fulling Mill Brook, and Peaked Hill, were very near the house. One word of caution, if you're hiking or just making your way to one of the less public beaches, beware of both poison ivy and ticks. We did eat at the State Road Restaurant, which is less than a mile from the house, and it was delicious, though pricey. We also went for the Friday night lobster rolls at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven. The size of these lobster rolls is in no way exaggerated. You may want to skip lunch. Bottom line, this is a great place to relax after busy days of exploration.
We’re very pleased that Caroline and her party enjoyed their time on the island and more specifically, enjoyed our house and its location, as well as some of our recommendations. Cleanliness and comfort are at the top of our list when we travel, and we want our guests to enjoy both. Although the renovation was completed in 2009, we take care to maintain the property and to provide quality linens and comfortable beds; it’s very important to us that our guests have a 5-star experience and get to truly enjoy their time on this beautiful island. Caroline commented on the location, which our guests find ideal for traveling to the other island towns, and also the house’s proximity to the bike path, beautiful beaches, public transportation, and much more. We also recommend that lobster-lovers plan Friday night dinner at the Grace Church in Vineyard Haven where they serve the best lobster roll dinner on the island, and it sounds like Caroline and her party enjoyed this recommendation as well. We hope to hear from her the next time she plans to visit this fabulous island.
We were very impressed with this lovely rental property! It was centrally located to all the towns on the island, and close to beaches, great breakfast spots, and art & glass galleries. This spacious home was nestled among the trees, with a delightful patio and outdoor grill to enjoy. French doors opened up to the patio, which was an unexpected bonus. It was the perfect place to enjoy our morning coffee before heading out for a day of adventure on the Vineyard; it was also the perfect spot to enjoy wine & cocktails after a day of fun. Everything was exceptionally clean and modern. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were really comfortable, with extra-thick mattress pads and what appeared to be new pillows. The bathrooms were spotless and it appeared that everything had been totally remodeled within the past several years. The kitchen and dining area were perfect for our needs and the full dining room could easily seat 8-10 people. We were pleasantly surprised to find a large screen TV and full cable TV. We weren't planning on watching much television during our stay but it was sure nice to come back from a long day of sightseeing and just relax and watch a movie. There were lots of family games available to play, too, but we were just tired for Scrabble! The home owners (Dave and Nancy Steinberg) were a pleasure to deal with and were able to answer all our questions about ferry service, getting around the island, best beaches, etc. We would absolutely recommend this rental property and we look forward to returning next year!
We try to accurately describe the property and all of its accouterments, and we are always pleased when our guests comment that the property exceeded their expectations. Cleanliness and comfort are our primary objectives and, based on Stacy’s comments, it appears our objectives were met. We also like to ensure that newcomers know as much as possible about the island’s offerings so they can enjoy the activities and sites that make it such a special place. In their short stay, they seemed to take-in much of what the Vineyard has to offer and also enjoyed returning to the comfort of our Vineyard home. We look forward to having them back next year.
