Elegant, Hawaiian style, 4600 sq. ft. home with spectacular ocean views and lush, tropical gardens. Located 100 feet from the ocean in a secluded beach-side community, the home has access to a small, private beach, perfect for putting in a kayak or canoe, or for the more adventuresome, boogie boarding or surfing an advanced, local surf break. An infinity pool and spa offer quiet relaxation in the beautifully landscaped backyard overlooking the ocean.
Perched at the end of a private, dead end lane, the house looks out to Koko Head Crater, Lanai and Maui, and enjoys peaceful sunrises and cool ocean breezes year round. Originally used as a beach and fishing retreat for Hawaiian royalty, this private cove remains today one of the best kept secrets on the island.
Custom built in 2002 and featured in the London Financial Times travel section in 2005, the home was carefully designed to take advantage of the exceptional views from every room. Its architecture reflects a sophisticated blend of Hawaiian and Balinese design and detail, including a double pitched roof, 20 foot vaulted ceilings, rich, teak flooring, carved wood doors and ceiling molding, ceiling fans and sill vent windows which allow a flow of fresh air from the outside to naturally cool the house. The house also has air-conditioning, with separate zones in most rooms. The house sleeps 8, with 4 bedrooms, 3 ½ baths, a living room, study, family room, exercise room and two large, covered lanais.
The large living room has 20 foot, vaulted ceilings and 30 feet of sliding glass doors that open to a spacious, covered lanai, creating a huge, indoor/outdoor living space with complete privacy and magnificent ocean views and breezes. The room is entered through a gracious foyer, has a Steinway grand piano and comfortable seating for relaxing and visiting. The dining room also opens onto the lanai and flows into a large kitchen with granite counters, a center island, and top of the line appliances. Outside the kitchen is a built-in, gas barbeque, with a pass through window into the kitchen. Both dining room and kitchen also have 20 foot, vaulted ceilings. The main floor of the house is completed with an office that opens onto the Living Room, Master suite, powder room and laundry room.
Downstairs are an additional Master suite with private bath, and two bedrooms that share a large bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers. The family room has a pool table, large T.V. and opens onto a garden, pool and a covered lanai with two chaise lounges and a daybed. There is also a small exercise room with an elliptical exercise machine, free weights, exercise ball and bands.
The home has wireless Internet throughout, is walking distance from Diamond Head Crater, and within a five minute drive to Waikiki or Kahala Mall. A property manager lives in a separate cottage nearby. A private chef and daily maid service can also be arranged.
And I am not just talking about Hawaii... the home was amazing. We relaxed every day and watched the sunrise and spectacular views from this home which is located in a nice quiet neighborhood. We were close to everything, but it didn't feel like we were in the city. Having a private pool and spa allowed everyone in our party to relax and enjoy the water. The homeowner, Carol and Jackie, the caretaker were super nice and made us feel welcome. When we get the opportunity to return to Oahu, I will definitely stay here again, and I would highly recommend for anyone who understands this is not your typical rental but a work of art!
We travel to Oahu every year and have stayed everywhere from the Kahala Resort to the big Waikiki hotels. This is a beautiful, well appointed home that provides a wonderful location for a relaxing holiday. It is super convenient to Diamond Head (we ran around it every morning), the great funky restaurants on Montsarrat Ave., and the Kahala Mall. Every day we found ourselves sitting on the lanai talking, enjoying the spectacular view and watching the whales offshore. The TV was off the entire week with no complaints. The home has an aura of ohana and is a truly wonderful vacation spot. We look forward to returning next year.
Also, the owner and managers are wonderful, accommodating people.
We had the privilege of staying at this property for a summer break in June of 2015. We always felt as though we were decompressing, as we made the very short drive from the craziness that is Waikiki (other family members were staying at resorts there) to the calm and serene Kahala area. This home offered everything a family needed for a truly relaxing and comfortable stay on South Oahu. The home was large and accommodating. A lot of thought had obviously been put into its architecture, design and decorating - the rooms were all beautifully furnished. We lived on the lanai and pool deck and soaked up the beautiful landscaping, spectacular views and cooling winds. While we prefer to eat out when on vacation, we did have a family dinner for ten at the house, and I found the kitchen to be well appointed – there was NOTHING that I needed that I couldn’t find. Both the Owner (Carol) and the Property Manager (Leslie) were lovely to deal with and very accommodating. I have no hesitancy giving this property the highest recommendation.
We give this home the highest recommendation for a wonderful vacation in South Oahu. The views are amazing. It was mesmerizing to look out to the palm trees and the view of the ocean all the way to Koko Head, at any time of the day or night. The sound of the ocean is an extra benefit. We never wanted to go out for meals because we just wanted to sit on the lanai, and the fully furnished kitchen and grill made that possible. The furnishings are incredibly nice with highly crafted woodworking throughout. The beds are very comfortable. The on-site property manager is friendly and a great help. The pool, hot tub, pool table and many books kept everyone entertained. The location is perfect - close enough to Waikiki if you need to go, but otherwise it feels a world away. Kahala beach is beautiful and very quiet on the weekdays. We wish we were still there.
My Husband and I can't say enough about this beautiful property. The home is in an exceptional location with tremendous views, balmy breezes and amazing sunrises. Immaculate and tastefully decorated with thoughtfulness and balance this home exudes comfort and love. Both the owner and property manager are delightful individuals. We look forward to returning to this lovely home and fully recommend this property.
It's hard to add much more about the house and location than what has already been said, nor is it possible to be more effusive in praise of the way Carol and Leslie treat their guests, so I will just confirm and summarise what everyone else has said.... they're lovely, you should go, it's perfect! For context, we were 2 couples and 1 infant and there was heaps of space for all and more. We had a car.
Other Activities: Shopping, Kayaking, Boating, Parasailing, Health/Beauty Spa.
