My wife, Colleen, and I met on Whidbey Island many years ago. We have lived in different parts of the country over the years, but always called Whidbey, home.
We live a few miles from The Hideaway, but will never 'bother' you while your are enjoying your stay. If you need something, anything, we are just a phone call away!
Mark and Colleen purchased this house in 1994
The South West side of Whidbey Island is very charming, beautiful, rural, and not that far from Seattle. There is a strong community presence and quite a strong artistic pulse, which we thoroughly enjoy. We chose our location 'up' from the water, because being right on the water can be windy and cold, even in the summer! We also enjoy the privacy, and that's hard to find living on the waterfront. Too many other houses!
We have a very loyal and large base of people who have used our place over the past 20 years. They tell us it's like a second home to them. We have tried to make all our guests feel that way. Because it is on an acre of land it also offers an abundance of privacy, vegatation and wildlife (Deer, eagles, pheasant, rabbits, etc) along with a great water and mountain view. Our birdfeeders bring in all kinds of interesting birds.
We celebrated my husband's first Fathers day here - what a perfect spot! Farmer's Markets, bike rides, a walk on the beach and beautiful views . . . can't wait to return!!!
Even though the view alone is worth staying at this property, the amenities are also great.
From the living room you can see the Sound and the occasional passing ships, and on a clear day you can see Mount Olympus. There is also abundant wildlife in the immediate area including frequent deer. During the last two days of our stay a hawk also frequented the area. A gas fireplace in the living room also adds heat and a nice ambiance for evenings.
The kitchen is well-stocked with decent quality pans and knives, coffee maker, blender, and utensils. The bedrooms are good sized, although the Queen beds feel small coming from a King. The house is adorably decorated throughout. The large wrap-around porch includes a nice dining area, sitting area, a grill, and a good sized hot tub.
The only big drawback for us was the shower. We are both tall people, and the shower is quite low. Although far from being a deal breaker, if you are tall you will need to bend down to wash your hair.
Mark was a very gracious host and provided ample suggestions on places to visit. The house rules are straight forward and easy to follow. I highly recommend this property for a romantic couple's getaway, but not for children or a group.
Beautiful view, spacious rooms, cozy and quiet. Just what we needed. Thanks.
The view is even more spectacular than the pictures suggest (as is often the case with pictures). And there is a big window on the side of the cabin overlooking it. The hottub is perfectly placed to enjoy it as well. There are a ton of helpful notes and information around the house to make the stay nice. The bed is one of the more comfortable ones we have seen in a cabin. Good internet and modern TV with cable if you don't feel like 100% disconnecting. The only real negatives are the lack of a dishwasher or much sheltered space outside (for grilling or eating outside while it's raining). Other than that, excellent all around. Definitely keeping this one bookmarked for the future.
Better than the pictures! Vastly exceeded expectations! My wife, dog, and I were looking for a nice, quiet, and dog friendly property and this definitely hit the note. Mark and Colleen were extremely accessible with any questions we had even though they were in Hawaii at the time. Besides the extremely informational laminated sheets at the home regarding the property and local attractions when I spoke with Mark on the phone he was very helpful in catering some recommendations towards things that interested us. The home was quaint but all-inclusive as it had anything you could possible desire and more in a VRBO/AirBnB rental. It was well appointed with furnishings, decor, and everyday accommodations and on top of it all had beautiful water views and nature from the house and inside the house (we saw 3 deer, a bald eagle, and countless birds feeding on the well placed bird feeders). We could have spent our entire time at the home with the hot tub, views, location to the beach, and large property to play with our dog but it also was in a location accessible to everything else the Island has to offer from cuisine to hikes. We loved our time so much that we wanted to stay as long as we could and Mark aided us by giving us an early check and late check out! You will not be disappointed with staying at this home! We will be back!
Outstanding! Well maintained, well equipped, cozy! An unforgettable view of Marrowstone Island and the Strait. The ships are always moving and their lights sparkle at night. The kitchen has a wonderful selection of utensils, cookware, and even some spices. The hot tub is spacious, and has a privacy fence, and a great view out over the water. The beds are comfy too. They have Wifi... This is a great off-season retreat! We will be back...., thank you Mark and Colleen!
