Book a week at The Beach and you’ll find yourself and your family in one of the most conveniently-located rentals in all of Door County. Ephraim’s public sand beach is directly across the street from this former retail store turned home. With two bedrooms on the main floor and an upper sleeping loft, this rental lodges a family of six quite nicely. The kitchen is spacious enough to cook all your meals in; but, with Door County favorites like Wilson’s Ice Cream Parlor, Czarnuska Soup Bar, and the Chef’s Hat all within easy walking distance, you will have plenty of other options! If a rainy day hits during your stay, there is ample space to spread out indoors: an enclosed porch spanning the length of one side of the home is ideal for board games or reading and the great room with its beautiful stone fireplace and cozy couches is the perfect place for an afternoon nap.
You won’t need to use your car to enjoy your stay, but if you decide to explore the surrounding areas, the Ephraim entrance to Peninsula State Park is less than five minutes away. (You could also bike or walk there, though there is a significant hill along the way!) The Park’s golf course, driving range, and new (opened in 2014) six hole learning course are all convenient to this entrance, as is the popular Northern Sky Theater (formerly AFT). Sister Bay & Fish Creek are both less than five miles away, with even more dining options, bars (if that’s your style), and shopping! The Beach was highlighted in a two page article in Door County Living’s early summer 2009 issue. Come to stay and you’ll discover the unique charm this vacation home offers.

This charming cabin in a fantastic location is tarnished by a foul odor. I've rented many times in DC (and many vrbos)and like the other reviewer mentions, never have had to wash/dry my own towels before checkout. If I had to take a guess, I believe this faulty attempt of the property management to save time & or $ by guests washing towels has caused damp towels to create a horrific damp musty stench in an otherwise cute family cabin. The w/d for the cabin are small & insufficient for the use the management requires of renters, so likely damp towels were left behind time after time. The smell comes directly from the laundry room. I sent the property managers an email about it on arrival (but did not call since it was not a true "emergency" on a holiday weekend)-now its been 5 business days without any acknowledgement. We spent 3 smelly nights there and will not return.
My family and I have been spending summer holidays in Ephraim since the early 1970's. Ephraim is the most perfect village in Door County, and this cottage has a wonderful location. Within walking distance of Wilson's, the boat rentals, small museums, and interesting shops, it is also within biking distance of lots more things as well. And of course it is right across the street from the beach!
The comfort of the cabin was excellent with lots of places to eat, to sit and relax, and comfortable beds. The cottage's iconic look with the white frame, green shutters and red roof is also very appealing. We enjoyed using the fireplace in the evening, even in August, just to take a bit of chill and damp out of the air on a rainy evening, and the rack of firewood was loaded with seasoned wood. We also liked having a BBQ grill at our disposal. Having a clothes washer and dryer available on premises felt quite luxurious. The bookshelves were filled with paperbacks of all description. The game shelf provided us with lots of fun one evening when we felt like staying in. There were plenty of outdoor furnishings in the way of tables and chairs. Parking was not a problem as our two cars easily fit behind the dwelling. I loved that there were window boxes filled with pretty summer flowers.
A few minor quibbles; It was hard to get the towels all washed and in the dryer by the ten o'clock checkout time for all 5 of us, though we made it. Also, the beds were not fully made up. We were required to put the top sheet on all the beds, or pay a fine.(Who is not putting a top sheet on?) All the dishes were to be washed (not an unreasonable request since there is a dishwasher available), but they were also required to be put away in the cabinets before we left at ten o'clock. In the bathroom, which we all shared, there was one two-inch bar of soap. The hand soap dispenser was completely empty. I would have appreciated having the cottage stocked with these basics in good supply. The refrigerator had a small sign taped to the freezer stating that there is no icemaker. That’s fine with me. What wasn’t fine was that there were also no ice cube trays at all so that we could at least have a couple of cubes in our drinks without buying a whole bag of ice.
Overall, our family enjoyed our stay at “The Beach”, and would recommend it to others.
