About Mike Price or Carol Wells

We bought the house, barn and 1st 20 acres in 1983. We built the cabin in 1992 to provide accommodations for our son whom was operating an outfitting business, then we retired from our jobs in 1995 and made the permanent move from the Midwest. We purchased the additional land over the next few years and now have just under 80 total acres. We love the peace and quiet our home provides and enjoy living in the Gunnison Valley.

Why Mike Price or Carol Wells chose Southwestern Colorado

My husband was an avid hunter & outdoorsman who travelled to Colorado from the Midwest for many years. He ask me in the early 1980's to come see "Heaven " with him. Who could turn down an offer like that, so we toured all over Colorado and fell in love with Blue Mesa Lake and Sapinero. We have enjoyed our time here and never tired of the wonderful views, wildlife and friends we have made. Everyday is better than the last!

What makes this cabin unique

We have deer & elk who make their homes on our property. There is often black bears and mountain lions who pass through. Blue grouse and all kinds of birds make their homes nearby. The deck on the cabin offers a wonderful place to put your feet up and let the stress disappear and enjoy the view. Just bring your clothes & food, and personal hygiene items, we'll take care of the rest.

Could not have been better. When we arrived, we were greeted by a buck mule deer and several doe. Also Midnight (the cat) came and greeted us. We missed him the rest of the week.

Cabin is great, Wi Fi worked, and Directv was there so I could watch Fox News.

Hope to make it back at some future time.

Great views. Great property.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this property last summer (2015) and couldn't wait to come back again this year. I stayed there for 3 days for the peace, quiet, and some biking up on the Mesa. The cabin has everything that you would need, including Internet and Direct TV, which came in handy when keeping up with the Olympic games. The beds are about the most comfortable I've ever had in a VRBO rental. I will definitely return again if I visit next summer.

Blue Mesa is Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

What a view! Stunning comes to mind. Wildlife is also part of the scenery. My wife and I enjoyed the cabin and all the amenities.

We also enjoyed taking our ATV right out of the driveway and heading up Blue Mesa Road to the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River. Absolutely great ride in the wide open spaces. Highly recommend this property.

Good, not great

  • 3 of 5

The inside of the cabin was great! Very comfortable, clean, well maintained, well decorated and everything we needed was available - 5 stars and a big Thank You for all that. Totally what was expected. The deck was very nice, but unfortunately, until the owner came home on Thursday, inside the cabin was the only place we could escape the black cat. He/She was craving attention constantly from the time we pulled in after being out for the day, to when we opened the door first thing in the morning, to when we tried to sit on the deck. Very irritating.

Views from the deck to the North/Northeast were phenomenal. "Scenic" Views of all the heavy equipment and "junk" we're not. (Somehow I missed pictures of these on the VRBO site). The area is so beautiful, the views are so beautiful, and these were really eyesores, With all the property, you would think either the cabin would be off by itself or the equipment would be stored someplace else. Also, didn't appreciate the weed wackier being used at 5:55am. I thought that was totally unnecessary when there are (paying) guests.

I wish I could give a better review as the cabin was very nice and a great base for our main purpose of being there - trout fishing, sightseeing and visiting points of interest in the area. Sometimes it's the "little things" that really make a visit great and I can't say this was a great visit. We certainly did enjoy Gunnison and the entire area and our experiences there and will definitely be back to the area again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your honest review. Apologies that the cat was a problem, he does have an important job in keeping mice away from the cabin. Also apologies for the heavy equipment, this is a working ranch and the equipment is periodically in view. Please look at other reviews, we attempt to be considerate of every person while maintaining the grounds.

Another wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

I suppose all I really need to say about this cabin is that we have now completed our fifth year in a row staying here. That's how much we love this place! We feel that the owners are now friends. This is the second year that Mike has been our host and we enjoy him as we do his mother and sister. The cabin (house actually) is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The kitchen has everything one could possible need for cooking. I really appreciate all the small details that make your stay enjoyable. (They provide nice soft tissues, etc., instead of the kind that is scratchy - a silly thing maybe but you appreciate if you have the sniffles!!!). You have all the privacy you could possible want. And I can't say enough great things about the view. It is absolutely spectacular. The deck is one of my favorite spots on earth - all you see is mountains rolling off in the distance, an aspen covered hill to your left and a huge mesa to your right. Many, many deer wander the property. We love this place so much that we've spent many a day just enjoying hanging out and not leaving at all. When you do leave, there are many spectacular drives in the vicinity. We take a road trip every summer to escape our Louisiana summers and just wander wherever the mood strikes - but this place is the one spot we know we'll visit. One other thing that should tell you how beautiful this spot is - we had ten days reserved but extended to seventeen days. I'd love to keep it all to myself but suppose I must tell you that you shouldn't hesitate to stay here.
