Guestbook comments from the owner

We have stayed here twice while visiting our son, daughter-in-law and new baby boy who live in a small apartment four blocks from here. The space, privacy and complete (and well-functioning) equipment make this an ideal do-it-yourself bed and breakfast place. We appreciate the ease of making arrangements and the artwork too!

Clean, cozy, quiet, self contained suite within a home.

  • 5 of 5

We found the quiet of the neighbourhood surprising. It is within comfortable walking distance of a BART station. Although the owners were away during our stay, they left clear directions regarding everything, including emergency contacts. They are doing upgrades to the suite, including recent new double paned windows, yet maintaining the original ambience of this character home. We found the stay affordable, inviting and , oh yes, did I say quiet? I would stay here again.

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

I loved this place! Maya responded quickly to all my questions, and was very accommodating to our needs. The house is in a great location blocks away from Lake Merritt. The neighborhood is gorgeous, and has lots of restaurant, and other shops. There's a convenience store and gas station the blocks away! The Bart is just a quick walk, and just a few stops away from San Francisco. We had the utmost privacy during our stay, and there's a backyard with grill and all! I looked at other locations for a long time before my trip, and I don't think I could've found a better place. Next time I go back to the bay area, I hope I can stay there again. If you see this property is available, my advice is take it! You won't regret it, you'll love it.

Quaint 1bdrm with well-stocked kitchen

  • 4 of 5

This was a nice little place for two adults. The house was clean and comfortable, and within walking distance of local restaurants and grocery stores. The kitchen had any needed dishware and cookware, which allowed us to make several meals in. The owners were very helpful as well. They left a great set of maps and a folder on the kitchen table, which showed where all the local amenities were and had some great travel suggestions. Maya also checked in frequently by email to make sure we'd arrived and to ask if we needed anything during our stay.

The only two things I'd be aware of is that the house number can be hard to spot in the dark. While the owners did describe their house and driveway, the neighboring houses looked similar and the house number had some plants partially covering it. Also, the bathtub is very tall. While this wasn't a problem for us, the large step up and in could prove difficult for some. A picture of the tub and a brief description could easily alleviate this though!

Would stay again if/when in the area.

Nice location near Lake Merritt; cozy spot in residential neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed my stay at this little cottage. Everything was as described and it was easy to get in and out. Very walkable to Lake Merritt, and a short taxi or Uber ride to the BART.

Best Deal in the City

  • 5 of 5

Cozy, clean and comfortable - a perfect retreat for the price. We stayed four nights to attend our daughter's graduation ceremonies at USF. This location was 1 mile away from where our daughter lives and we had easy access getting to the city. We rented a car and the host was more than accommodating about sharing their parking in the driveway. Also, everything you need is within walking distance and the home it is connected to (with your own very private entrance) exudes a peaceful and loving energy. We loved it and we will be back!

Great Value Near Lake Merritt

  • 5 of 5

We were in town to visit our daughter and wanted to be as near to her as possible. This place worked out well for our needs. In the back of an older home, it has a private entrance. The space was more than adequate with a small, well-stocked kitchen, a very comfortable bed and a nice bath. All was clean. Parking is a challenge in this area but the owner is happy to work with you. The area is nice and an easy walk to lovely Lake Merritt. My only suggestion is that the back screen door be fixed as it does not stay closed and the inside door will only stay shut when the deadbolt is engaged. Otherwise this is a great value for the money and a chance to explore Oakland which has a lot to offer.
