We are a family of 4, who love to share our city with others!
Maya Novak purchased this house in 2009
We love Oakland, we love our home and we are excited to share this lovely city with others!
Walking distance from many amenities, quiet, shady back yard, easy access to San Francisco and other Northern California attractions (wine country!)
We have stayed here twice while visiting our son, daughter-in-law and new baby boy who live in a small apartment four blocks from here. The space, privacy and complete (and well-functioning) equipment make this an ideal do-it-yourself bed and breakfast place. We appreciate the ease of making arrangements and the artwork too!
This was a nice cozy place, with good lighting and great access to all things downtown Oakland. Maya was a great, friendly and wonderful host.
My husband and I loved the location of this house. It was about a 5 minute drive from our son and only a short walk to the lakeshore downtown area and farmers market. Very comfortable bed and Adequately equipped. The weather was cool and the place was heated only certain parts of the day so we were chilly in the afternoon..There was a space heater which we thought was an air purifier and to our regret, we didn't contact Maya to see if we could do something about the heat. We were able to find parking every night but not always on Palm St. Maya was very accommodating if she wasn't going to be at the house, she allowed us to park in her driveway. She refunded our security deposit within hours of leaving. We will stay here again.
My husband and I immediately wanted to book this place for our vacation because it was child-friendly! It's not easy traveling with a toddler but they were so accommodating and very understanding. It was perfect for our simple needs - a bedroom with bathroom in the room, small dining area and stocked kitchen. They even provided a high chair, baby towel and toys to help us out! It's a safe, beautiful, convenient location. Maya was awesome and sweet. We had our car with us but parking was never an issue because Maya always helped us find a spot or let us stay in their driveway. There are shared walls so sometimes we heard their little ones running about in the morning but we brought along white noise for our sensitive child so it was never a problem for us. We loved our stay here and appreciated Maya's hospitality!
We found the quiet of the neighbourhood surprising. It is within comfortable walking distance of a BART station. Although the owners were away during our stay, they left clear directions regarding everything, including emergency contacts. They are doing upgrades to the suite, including recent new double paned windows, yet maintaining the original ambience of this character home. We found the stay affordable, inviting and , oh yes, did I say quiet? I would stay here again.
I loved this place! Maya responded quickly to all my questions, and was very accommodating to our needs. The house is in a great location blocks away from Lake Merritt. The neighborhood is gorgeous, and has lots of restaurant, and other shops. There's a convenience store and gas station the blocks away! The Bart is just a quick walk, and just a few stops away from San Francisco. We had the utmost privacy during our stay, and there's a backyard with grill and all! I looked at other locations for a long time before my trip, and I don't think I could've found a better place. Next time I go back to the bay area, I hope I can stay there again. If you see this property is available, my advice is take it! You won't regret it, you'll love it.
This was a nice little place for two adults. The house was clean and comfortable, and within walking distance of local restaurants and grocery stores. The kitchen had any needed dishware and cookware, which allowed us to make several meals in. The owners were very helpful as well. They left a great set of maps and a folder on the kitchen table, which showed where all the local amenities were and had some great travel suggestions. Maya also checked in frequently by email to make sure we'd arrived and to ask if we needed anything during our stay.
The only two things I'd be aware of is that the house number can be hard to spot in the dark. While the owners did describe their house and driveway, the neighboring houses looked similar and the house number had some plants partially covering it. Also, the bathtub is very tall. While this wasn't a problem for us, the large step up and in could prove difficult for some. A picture of the tub and a brief description could easily alleviate this though!
Would stay again if/when in the area.
