Healdsburg Bliss House is a noted unofficial hillside landmark. This comfortable ranch style home is high up on a ridge above the stunningly gorgeous Dry Creek Wine Valley. Just 1.5 miles from downtown Healdsburg, the home is a blissfully peaceful escape surrounded by 80 acres of lush vineyards. The 100ft deck and expansive windows provide endless opportunities to take in the literally 100 mile-180 degree views of vineyards, forests, mountains, big skies and florid sunsets. Watch the hot air balloons rise to the south or the plumes of steam from The Geysers in the surrounding northeast mountains. Bring binoculars and check out the myriad of birds swooping by. Sunbathe or read on the deck, bbq while sipping wine and taking in the views. An outdoor dining table for 6 is a commanding location from which to dine and leisurely watch the sunset. The master suite opens to the deck and the spacious kitchen/dining/family great room has views as does the generous living room with rock hearth.
Bliss House Hillside Setting: This truly unique location is up a 1/4 mile shared paved drive which is in good condition and suitable for all types of cars. The property is not fenced and adjoins neighboring vineyard property and as such is not suitable for small children.
The setting backs up against rural wilderness area and thus is plush with wildlife...wild turkeys, deer, raccoons, wild pigs, etc. are all a part of the close to town but country lifestyle. As tempting as it may be, we encourage our guests-for their own safety to observe and enjoy the wildlife from a distance.
Bring the camera and the binoculars and no matter what season-warm outerwear as evenings can be cool. If guests are planning to walk, bring sturdy shoes.
The Weather: From April through August, most afternoons are pretty and bright with breezes. Mornings and nights are usually cool and sometimes the early morning fog comes in to kiss the grapes. Temperatures can range 30-40 degrees in a 24 hour period. September and October is almost always warm and there is less early morning mist or fog. However, there are exceptions...so don't forget the pullover or wrap. Even in winter, when we get the rains that make this such a lovely place...there are many many break through days with crisp sunshine.
We are both are native Californians and retired teachers. My wife was born in Healdsburg and raised on the property before it was split into the winery and the vineyard properties.
Jim or Andie Carroll purchased this house in 1968
The property was inherited from my father and was part of the property where I was raised and grew up. The view is great, the people are nice and the town is small and has a certain charm.
Our stay at Bliss house exceeded our expectations. The pictures of the beautiful setting of this house don't do it justice. Our favorite place in the house was the large deck with lovely seating and views of the surrounding vineyards and the valley. The home was very clean and our beds were comfortable. There were board games available as well as an extensive list of recommended wineries and restaurants created by the hosts. The kitchen was also stocked with anything you could need to create a meal at home or pack a picnic! We loved our stay at Bliss house and would recommend it to others!
The pictures do not do the property justice. From the outside, it may not look like much but the location, views, deck, kitchen were fantastic. Our family of 6 found the place convent for all we did in the area. The furnishing and decor may be a bit old but all is very functional and we loved the master bath. The value is exceptional. Jim was great to work with.
Of the 4 houses that we have rented in this area this is the absolute best. From the initial contact with the owners until the prompt refund of our deposit, they were the best. The house is in superb condition, exceptionally clean and had everything that we needed plus much more for our 3 night stay. The location is quiet with a view as it is located on a hill overlooking many vineyards. Overall even better than excellent!!!
We just spend the last weekend at Bliss House. the location is just about perfect, surrounded by vineyards and with a tremendous view ... you definitely know you are right in the middle of wine country!!!
What separated Bliss House from a lot of other rentals is its location, part way up the hillside, which enables you to get a truly amazing perspective of the valley, with Healdsburg hidden behind the trees on the far side.
Despite it getting chilly in the morning (it was November), we had breakfast on the deck enjoying the morning sunshine. I wish I could post photos on VRBO, I got some really spectacular pictures of the sunrise above a mist-filled valley ... WOW.
The accommodation is quite large, clean and exactly as represented. If it's chilly, use the fireplace, there's nothing more romantic that a cracking wood fire, some candles, a bottle of nice wine, and of course, good company :)
6 of us stayed at the Bliss House last April to celebrate 2 of our group turning 50. We love the location- being so close to Healdsburg was just what we wanted. The house is very nice with plenty of room. A little maintenance was needed- several towel racks were very loose in the wall, but there was nothing major. We had a slight glitch upon arrival with some confusion on the part of the cleaning company, but the owners were extremely helpful and made it right for all involved. We would definitely stay there again.A must-visit is the winery on the property. We had so much fun with the staff and their wine is wonderful.
We stayed with two other couples for a wine tasting trip and could'nt have been happier with our choice. The house is clean and each room has a queen bed. The kitchen was fully stocked so no need to bring much of anything but food and drinks. The owner was very easy to communicate with and all instructions were very easy to understand. I would definitly stay again. Hopefully very soon.
