Pirate's Cove Beach house is located deep within the Palmas del Mar resort in its safest, securiest and most sought after areas ... just steps away from the beautiful Caribbean Sea and one of Palmas del Mar's most beautiful beaches and coves! This location and surroundings will become the focal point of your family's Caribbean vacation! Your vacation experience will be supplemented by the offerings of the Palmas del Mar Resort community - golf, tennis, horseback riding, and dining.
When we are staying at the home, our kids spend hours exploring the rock outcroppings and "rock holes" along the beaches and coves discovering the life and wonder they hold. As a couple we always make time for the walks along the beaches late in the afternoon or early morning, with or without kids, beachcombing, and discovering what the last tide has washed up or exposed - occasionally finding nesting loggerhead and green sea turtles or their tracks.
When exploring the beaches by myself, I always carry a spinning rod or fly rod with a yellow or white buck tail or fly, and have caught a large variety of fish (Tarpon to African Pompano) from the sandy shore or rocks. Snorkeling can only be described as an incredible experience! On each side of the beach and cove shown in the attached photo, you will find reefs, crevices, caves and caverns - all with a wide diversity and abundance of life and colours. In this description we inadvertently interchange the words villa and beach house to describe the home - this due to its proximity to the Caribbean Sea and the lifestyle it has blessed us with!
Our home is located in the Palmas del Mar Resort on the southeastern coast of Puerto Rico. It is located in the exclusive Surfside/Shell Castle Residential community of the resort. As stated previously, the villa is located within close proximity (walking distance) of several quiet and pristine coves and beaches, and trails to explore... no need to load a car or golf cart just exit the yard! The property has a wonderful balance of interior living space and landscaped grounds for you to enjoy and experience - truly a Caribbean treasure!

Pirates Cove worked great for our group of 7 adults and 2 children. There is plenty of space indoors and outdoors that allowed us to be together as a group and also have our own space as well. The setup worked great having the bedrooms downstairs and the living area upstairs especially at night when the kids went to sleep early. We loved having the washer and dryer available for our use and we used the grill practically every day and night. There were plenty of bath and beach towels, linens, kitchenware, and everything else we needed. The pool area and backyard are great. The hot tub is not heated which was odd at first but it didn't really matter since it was so warm out. The grounds have such a tropical feel with beautiful palm trees and other fruit trees (bananas, starfruit, etc.) Every afternoon we would watch from the upstairs porch all the iguanas bathing at the top of the palm trees. And every night we fell asleep to the sounds of the coqui.
The beach nearby was unfortunately full of seaweed and the waters were too rough for swimming. Also, the rocky path leading down to the beach area wasn't too inviting and was tough with young kids. Nevertheless, it was nice to have a beach so close and we enjoyed scouring the sand for sea glass and sea shells. We took advantage of a couple other beaches nearby- highly recommend taking a sailing trip to beautiful Icacos Island. We enjoyed horseback riding and a deep sea fishing trip at Palmas del Mar and also did some great day trips to Old San Juan and El Yunque Rainforest.
We had a tough time finding really good restaurants in the area- there are a couple in Palmas del Mar. But mostly we ate at the house- there are plenty of supermarkets (including a huge Walmart) nearby for groceries. The owner was very accessible whenever we had questions. We had an issue with one of the air conditioners but he was able to help resolve it.
Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
My extended family and I stayed here for a week during the month of July. We all truly enjoyed our stay at the house and were sad to leave!
It was just the right size for our party of eight, and we were extremely comfortable--definitely better than staying at a hotel! We enjoyed Palmas Del Mar - there were convenience places to eat on property, my brother in law enjoyed the golf courses, and while the beach closer to the house was full of seaweed at the time, we were able to enjoy one of the other beaches on the resort and a beach in the neighboring town.
I can't say enough about how much I loved this house. The amenities were great--the children probably spent the most time in the pool, the grounds were gorgeous, and we had everything we needed as there were plenty of towels, kitchen supplies, etc.
The owner was also great to work with. He answered any questions we had, and when one of the AC units in the bedroom broke down, he quickly sent someone to come replace the unit. I would definitely rent from this owner/this home again! Thanks for a great vacation!!
Our group of 10 (6 adults and 4 kids) had a fabulous stay at this property last month. The house was clean, and very well-equipped for everything we could need for our vacation. All we had to bring was food and sunblock!
It's very close to the beach - closer than you're likely to be at a typical all-inclusive, just a short (2-3 min?) walk down a path. And we had it to ourselves almost the entire time - so secluded!
When we weren't at the beach the kids (6-9yrs old) were in the pool. The house is set up such that you can watch the kids in the pool from one of the open sitting areas (the covered dining area, or the lower open patio), so the kids were within eyesight, but there was a bit of distance from their (delighted) squeals. These patios also offered a fabulous view of dozens of iguanas that hung out in the treetops, munching on leaves all the time! Speaking of animals, the sounds of various birds/crickets/wildlife at night was amazing. Such a great sound to fall asleep to.
The bedrooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable, there was plenty of towels for beach and indoor use.
The owners were quick to respond to any of our questions before and during our stay. We had a few questions upon our arrival, and they addressed what they could over the phone, and they had a local property maintenance person stop by to fix the other issue. (just fixing the light in the pool area)
The community as a whole (Palmas del Mar) was clearly affected by the recent downturn in the economy, and there were many vacant/unused properties/shops. That said, it had all the services we needed - enough restaurants (we went to the mexican place, and the tapas place) the little grocery store (small but had everything!), the marina had tour boat operators, etc.
Although perhaps not the most modern or luxurious house, it was comfortable, clean, well-maintained, and fabulously set up for a relaxing week at the beach for a big group.
I would absolutely recommend this property to friends.
Our family typically vacations in PR at least once a year. We are on a quest to determine what part of the island we prefer in hopes of finding our dream 'winter' home some time in the future. This was our first visit to Palmas del Mar. We were very impressed. This is a great home for small to large families or groups. We traveled with another family, so 4 adults and 4 kids. We had plenty of room, the boys had thier own bedroom and so did the girls, sharing a Jack & Jill bathroom. Full size laundry facilities made quick work of bathing suits, and towels etc. We shopped for food staples in Humacao which has all the modern stores. We have stayed places where the local corner bodega was all we could access without an hour drive, so this was a nice change. We cooked at the house mostly, as the grill was perfect and that way we didn't have to be on anyone's reservation schedule, etc. The pool is perfect and the short stroll to the beach is easy. Everyone had the best time. We definitely have Palmas on our short list of where to purchase in the future and would not hesitate to stay at the Pirates Cove Beach House again. Also of note the owners and property managers were VERY accommodating. Thanks so much for a great winter break!
The Beach is steps from the house with a private, Pirates of the Carribean feel with majestic rolling hills/cliffs on either side and white sand in between. It will take your breath away. Surrounded by the local flora and fauna, there are fruit trees (we came in star fruit season and had them in our smoothies and fruit salads), coconuts, and many kinds of flowers. The view from the hammock is what we call "iguana tv" where these very laid back animals can be seen on the tree canopy just relaxing in the sun. Fall asleep to the sound of the coqui. A sound you will miss when you go home. There are three levels to the house, so everyone has room to gather, or relax depending on the time of day. The pool is great for adults and kids alike as there's a private hot tub and a pool with a large shallow end. Our kids, 4 and 6, grew webs between their toes and spent most waking hours there. The beachcombing is good too, and the sand is perfect for making castles. Palmas del Mar has restaurants and hotel dining and some shopping and a grocery store. I would recommend a golf cart for this, or a car to get to Humacao and all of the modern US convenience you are used to. If you like a bit off the beaten path, there are local restaurants close by for authentic local fare. It's the best of both worlds as Shell Castle is a bit off the beaten path and a bit on the wild side. The house was very clean though starting to show it's age, with games and books for the kids and cable TV and internet. Buy some coconut cream (Coco Lopez) and some pineapple juice and make a pina colada with the blender in the kitchen. I'm still thinking about them.
There is no shortage of things to do while staying at the property and Palmas del Mar, Golf (two critically acclaimed championship 18-hole golf courses), Tennis (over 20 tennis courts - standard, clay & artificial grass, the tennis center considered the largest in the Caribbean), Casino (visit the Four Points Sheraton in PDM), Fine and casual dining, In-shore and off-shore fishing, Snorkeling and scuba diving, Exploring and beachcombing, Surfing and boogieboarding, Lay in the hammock with cool drink, listen to the waves, and enjoy a good book, Visit the marina to admire the off-shore catch, Day trip to old San Juan, Day trip to 'El Yunque' Rainforest, Relax!!!, BRING YOUR BATHING SUIT AND ENJOY THE HOME, ITS SURROUNDINGS, THE TROPICAL CLIMATE AND LIFESTYLE! ROOM FOR EACH FAMILY MEMBER TO HAVE THEIR OWN SPACE!!!, SORRY NO SMOKING PERMITTED IN THE HOME
