Lookout Lady is an original Harkers Island fishing cottage located on Core Sound with beautiful views of Cape Lookout and the Cape Lookout Lighthouse.
The cottage has been completely remodeled and updated with two bedrooms and two full baths. There are expansive views of the water from almost every room. The kitchen is fully equipped if you choose to cook and there is a gas grill for your use.
Lookout Lady provides easy access to all water sports and has a dock with a fish cleaning station. Spend you time enjoying you favorite water sport, kayaking or lounging on the deck or dock.
There is a large swing on the water for enjoying the view and the evening sunsets. Take your boat or one of the many ferry services to the Cape and tour the Lighthouse or explore the pristine beaches of the National Seashore.
Lookout Lady is a great place to enjoy the sun and water or just relaxing and enjoying the view.
As Native North Carolinians we vacationed on the Crystal Coast for 20 years before becoming property owners. While vacationing with our children we learned to 'fish, crab and clam' and enjoy the many amenities and beauty of the 'down east' fishing villages such as Harkers Island. As avid fishermen and boaters the accessibility of water and access to the many islands and pristine beaches made this an ideal location. Come and enjoy for a week or a life time and see why we love this island paradise.
Ron Rothrock purchased this cottage in 2005
Harkers Island and the 'down east' villages such as Davis and Atlantic remain unspoiled and virtually true to their roots. Even though commercial fishing has declined in recent years the picturesque wooden skiffs and trawlers still plough though the sound in search of the day or evening catch. The nostalgic beauty of the life style is a natural attraction. The easy access to the water and the many unspoiled beaches and islands are always alive with wildlife and adventure. When you are here you cannot help but be on 'Island Time' it is contagious.
Sunshine, warm weather almost year round, gentle breezes and a relaxing atmosphere make this a perfect get away. The island offers local restaurants and activities including the Core Sound Decoy Festival and many activities relating to the Core Sound Wildfowl Museum. We enjoy playing in the water or boating, or just relaxing and enjoying the views and the sunsets. Clear nights offer excellent star gazing. Fine dining and other amenities are just a few minutes away in Beaufort. Or you can travel a few miles up Highway 70 to Cedar Island and catch the ferry for a day excursion to Ocracoke.
If you are looking for a quaint no frills cottage on the sound with an AWESOME view of the sound from the kitchen table AND front row seats from the backyard of the gorgeous sunsets over the sound, then this is the place for you! Kitchen is well equipped. (Just FYI, coffee pot is only a 4 cup one. We just made as many pots as needed. No worries) We had not used a gas stove in several years and had little figuring it out. LOVED the ceiling heater in one of the bathrooms as the temps outside ranged from almost 80 degrees to FREEZING. Even though the wind was whizzing and cold on Sunday, we were able to sit out on the patio because the sun was warm and the wind didn't hit there. The swing out by the water was nice also. The boat ramp made it very nice because my son could pick us up there instead of having to drive to the Marina to meet them (we don't leave as early as the men to fish.) Kitchen was well stocked. it had almost everything we needed. My only two real suggestions are #1) it would have been nice to have more that one key and #2)detailed directions to the location of the cottage. We had a hard time locating the exact location of the property and after we found it through visual searching, it took us a couple of passes to figure out exactly where to turn. We would DEFINITELY rent this cottage again.
My husband and I came down for a weekend stay and were lucky enough to stay at Lookout Lady. The cottage is so cozy and comfortable with absolutely amazing views of the water. Even though the weekend was cool and overcast, we thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the dock and the back patio. Even though we had come to see the reenactment at Fort Macon, we ended up spending most of our time in the cottage and relaxing. We enjoyed breakfast at the nearby Captain's Choice and an amazing lunch at the Fish Hook and were only about 20 minutes out of Beaufort to enjoy the evening. The caretaker Ken and owner Ron were so nice and helpful that we will definitely be staying here again!
Just returned from a canoe trip to Harker's Island and Shackleford Banks - stayed at this rental home. Everything was exactly as described in the listing, very clean and well-maintained, perfect location for paddlers interested in the area. Even though a dishwasher repair had to be made while we were there, it was done with our schedule in mind, and we appreciated the fact that the owner was interested in making the repair ASAP so as not to inconvenience other renters. Launching our canoe from the dock staircase was a bit tricky, but easily done. Would consider renting again and would have done so in previous years, but did not realize that the house was available for vacation rental. The sign at the end of the driveway is obscured by large weeds right now, so definitely would cut those down so others could take advantage of such a great rental.
Easy access by ferry service to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and the National Seashore, the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum is located on Harkers Island, the NC Maritime Museum located 20 minutes away in Beaufort and the NC Aquarium is located in Pine Knoll Shores
