Went unplugged (no wifi) for the weekend as a family and everyone had a great time. Nature, foos ball, board games, so much to do. Larkin is terrific and takes pride and tremendous care of the property. We will definitely return.
My new happy place!
AWESOME!!!!! Larkin is such a caring person and goes above and beyond to satisfy your wants and needs. Beds and furniture are very comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked and a grocery store right down the road. A perfect place to unwind. Our dog loved it. Thank you Larkin for everything and we will see you next year.
Everything about this place is amazing. Even though it rained most of our weekend, we enjoyed the much needed relaxation here. It was perfect.
Beautiful and rustic
Great time. Loved being right on the river and tucked away in the woods. Cabin was cozy, clean and full of unique decor. The owner is very nice and helpful and wants to make sure you enjoy your visit. Will definitely plan on staying here again.
Only downfall is hearing the vehicles and traffic on the main road, but I just blocked it out and ignored it.
Lovely place, a little loud
The house was spacious and full of everything we needed. Plenty of towels, kitchen stuff, games. It was very homey and comfortable. Also a great yard. The kayaks and canoes were wonderful to have there - we used both and had a nice time on the river. When not lounging about, there was plenty of stuff close by to do; we went to the State Fair and the Rappahannock River Wildlife Refuge and tried the burgers at NN Burger (they really were good). The only real downside was the noise from the road. I knew it was close and had read about it in other reviews, but it was closer and louder than I expected. Put a little damper on hanging out outside, but it was still pleasant. And Larkin was great, too. Also, I have AT&T, and my phone worked well the whole time.
Wonderful place to relax, recharge and enjoy Mother Nature!
We loved it! Every part of it. Sunny days we fished and canoed on the river. Rainy days we napped, read from the many books and played many of the board games provided throughout the cabin, (and Foosball) or sat on the wonderful screened porch and listened to the rain while watching the river. My favorite thing was waking up, making a cup of coffee, grabbing my fishing pole and walking down to the dock to fish for a bit. I'm an amateur Mycologist so I was delighted to find many species of mushrooms throughout the property to explore. Our 10 yr. old Golden Retriever Jack had the best time of his life and seemed to think he was a puppy again! Larkin is a kind and thoughtful woman. We are very much looking forward to returning next year! Thank you Larkin!
John and Barbara
If you enjoy boating, fishing, swimming... the Mattaponi River is the place for you. This house sits about 50' from the edge of the river with 3 kayaks and a canoe for your convenience. Beautiful ZOAR STATE FOREST is just across the river so hiking and park activities are easy! There's a public boat ramp about 1000' away (but totally out of eye shot) but kayaks and canoes con launch from the floating dock here. The river is freshwater and tidal. At low tide its 10 or so feet deep near the shore (old channel) .about 4 or 5 in the middle, and even less on the other side. Bottom is mostly sandy! Currents are usually not very strong, and every12 hours stops completely and changes direction. Very user friendly!
. Aylett is close to Richmond (50 min.), DC (90 min) Willamsburg (60 min) with easy access to fast moving roads.
Other Activities: KINGS DOMINION Close!! 30 min -Bush Gardens and OUTLET stores are about40 min away. New badmitten set!
