About Pat or Doug McCarthy

Doug & Pat and their sons built this house in the 80's and enjoyed it for many years and are now living in Harrisville just down the street from the lake. Pat the artist and Doug is a former teacher.

Both retired now and are busy with gardening and trying to enjoy life on the easy side!

What makes this house unique

This house has so many wonderful memories for the entire family from fishing from the docks to just sitting on the deck and enjoying the fantastic views of the water and having great barbecues on the deck. And watching our grandchildren enjoy the beach and lake as well. We designed the house so you can see the water from almost every room in the house... so you won't miss anything on the water!

Perfect Week Away

  • 5 of 5

Everything you would ever want to do is right there in the house or on the lake - walking, reading (on the deck or on the dock), canoeing, relaxing. We took daily short trips to bike area trails. The pellet stove was great for cool fall mornings. People and Labrador retriever heaven.

perfect week at relaxing home

  • 5 of 5

We had a restful and peaceful week at the House on the Lake. Many thanks to Pat and Doug for sharing their comfortable home . We used the kayak and appreciated that they had set up the fire pit for our use. They even had an extensive library for our use when we ran short on novels. The only concern was that the house was a short distance from Harrisville Designs and my husband threaten legal action if I added any more yarn to my stash! It doesn't get better than this.....sun, water and a great yarn shop all in the same location!

Thanks again

Peaceful and Fishermen Friendly!

  • 5 of 5

My teenage son's and I had a wonderful vacation on the lake. The house is clean and lovely! The lake is peaceful and full of fish! My boys fished everyday and night and loved having the canoe and kayak available to them. The decks are a great place to read a book or just relax. Wifi allowed me to work on some projects while taking in a beautiful view. We also were able to get in 3 college visits, while still having plenty of time to enjoy the lake. Thank you again to Pat and Doug for being great hosts!

Owner's Response: Great guests, It was fun watching the 3 young men...(boys) fishing all week, it reminded me of the good old days when our boys (35 years ago) fished just like that from the boats and the docks. It is nice to see that kids still enjoy life as it used to be and not spend all their time on their phones!!! It was also very nice to see their mom enjoy the sunny week on the dock relaxing!

Relaxing lake front with great views!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home with everything you need, just bring clothes and toothbrush and food.

Was riding through area, found the house and were lucky enough to have a vacancy.

Husband fished caught many bass, trout and others while I took the time to relax on the dock after swimming, had our own private beach area.

Later in the evening enjoyed dinner on the deck while looking over the lake.

Couldn't have asked for a better vacation, hope to bring friends up on our next vacation.

Would highly recommend not only the house but the historical area.

friendly owners, beautiful view

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. My husband was able to kayak daily and I enjoyed sitting by the lake reading. The view was beautiful and the home well stocked. Only disappointment was that there wasn't any swimming area...too rocky.

Wonderful week!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at this beautiful lake house! We were 2 adults and 2 teenagers and the space was perfect. The house was very clean and modern. The rental came with the use of a kayak, canoe and row boat, which we all enjoyed. Plenty of room on the larger float to sit with coffee and books. The owners were super helpful. When we arrived, we wanted to get fishing licenses on line but had no printer. We called the owner and she printed them out at her house and brought them over to us. Basically, if we needed anything, the owners were happy to help us. The lake is gorgeous. You can walk to the scenic center of town to the weaving center, library and quaint general store. We loved our stay and will be back again! A fun tip: if you kayak, make sure to go under the bridge to the other side of the lake. There you will find a tiny house at the end of the lake called "Blueberry Island" on its own tiny island...it was worth the paddle!
