Our names are Bill & Tricia Meier and we are the proud owners of these beautiful Cowlitz River Cabinsi. Each is named appropriately, starting with the RAINIER LOG HOUSE, THE ADAMS CHALET, THE ST HELEN’S COTTAGE. As far back as our dating years, we had dreamed of moving out of the city of Olympia and building a log house somewhere high in a mountainous area. About 10 years ago, we got serious and started our search throughout Washington and Oregon for land that would be just the right fit for us. Within a year we stumbled onto this piece of ground and it was love at first site. Finding these 8 acres of land was the beginning of making our dreams come true. Within 2-years of our purchase, we packed up our belongings and moved out to our 8 acre piece of Packwood Heaven.
Why John chose Randle
The first of our cabins to be built was the Rainier Log House. Our plan had always been to purchase a log house kit, but Bill decided he desired an AUTHENTIC log house and he wanted to master the construction himself from top to bottom. So after purchasing a used boom truck and enough logs from a neighbor logging who was logging his property, Bill was on his way. The Rainier Log House was his first masterpiece. Next came THE ST. HELENS COTTAGE and THE MT. ADAMS CHALET soon followed. It has all been an adventurous labor of love. We hope, whichever of our beauties you choose, you will make memories to last forever.

beautiful place by the river
We had a great time in the Mt. Adams Chalet. Our group was four old friends who don't see each other very often renting this place to spend some time together and catch up. Everything in the house was in order, clean, convenient, and as described. The whole process was simple—sign a rental agreement and then show up at the cabin. We never interacted directly with John.
The kitchen is good for cooking, the hot tub was lovely, and the beds comfortable. The extremely tall vaulted ceiling and overall timber frame construction is impressive and memorable. The open layout of the house would be fun for friends and family. The river is just a couple minutes walk from the house and is very peaceful to sit by and fun to explore. Packwood has all your basic supplies if you need anything and a grocery store, but is a small town. So if there are very specific things you want, for example to cook a particular recipe, it would be smart to shop ahead of time. It is very easy and quick to access all sorts of amazing natural areas and we wish we'd had more time to do so.
Some things good to know before renting that are not clear until you've paid and received your rental agreement (unless you ask a lot of specific questions):
- There are three cabins situated in relatively close proximity on the property. It's clear in the description that the owners own three cabins, but not that they are situated closely on the property. We definitely felt like we had our privacy (there are some visual barriers between the cabins and some space) and didn't actually interact with anyone while there. But if you are looking for total seclusion, this may not be the right fit.
- Because of the other cabins, there is a quiet policy after 10PM (so no playing music or being loud outside after 10PM). Again this really didn't bother us, but if you are planning on blasting music and being loud outside until late at the night, not the right fit for you.
Thank you John, Bill, and Tricia! We had a great time and maybe we'll be back again!
We're glad you and your group enjoyed the cabin and the area. Hopefully if you come back we'll get a chance to meet.
Great peaceful location!
Very nice location. Even though there is two other cabins on the property, it feels very private. Kitchen had everything we needed. Enjoyed our stay. My only issue was that whatever type of mattress or mattress cover was on the bed in the downstairs bedroom made a lot of noise with any movement, but that's pretty minor. Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, and I will look into the noise in the downstairs bedroom.
Lovely cabin close to the snow
Beautiful place in the woods. Cold in the cabin when we arrived and in the mornings but a few minutes with the gas stove fixed that. We went to Whites Pass and Rainer to play in the snow. The kitchen was easy to navigate for meals and the extras were a nice surprise.
I'm happy you and your Family enjoyed the cabin and the area!

Beautiful and comfortable cabin
Stocked kitchen for all your cooking needs to start with, adventure starts in the back yard with a short walk to the river. 30-40 min drive to white pass where we went two days in a row where we had a blast! Came back and relaxed in the hot tub which was very inviting. 10 min drive in either direction for dining and geocerie stores(which where pretty good cost wise). Just chillin in the cabin at night next to the fire place...we loved it. And John who manages the cabin was very friendly and easy to deal with. Excellent WA experience from this thankful family from oahu. Thx again🤙🏽
I'm glad you and your family enjoyed the cabin and the area.
