This is a beautiful, large, and old rambling cottage on a bluff above the beach in the Point O' Woods private beach community in Old Lyme, CT. There are partial water views in three directions from this breezy, wooded, and spacious lot near the tip of a rocky point at the end of the road. The lovely, protected beach of Point O' Woods is a minute away, with tennis courts, and a boat launch nearby.
This is a charming and rough-hewn cottage full of character and history. It sits on a site with some privacy since it is not crowded by houses on the three water sides. And while the views of the water are not wide-open, some would say this is made up for by the additional privacy and sense of seclusion enhanced by numerous trees in the yard. This was the first house in the Point O' Woods community and was built by family from Hartford around 1918. It has a full kitchen, a screened porch, and an outside porch that wraps around 3 sides of the house, where you can enjoy Long Island Sound, the beach, and woods and marsh beyond. Since the view of the beach faces West, it is a great place to watch a sunset.
The interior of the cottage is tastefully decorated and much of the furnishings is original from the 1920s and 1930s with a fun appeal. The kitchen has a relatively new frig and a microwave. There is a butler's pantry next to the kitchen with a second sink. The house has a living room, dining room, two bedrooms and a half-bath on the first floor. On the second floor there are four bedrooms and one full bath. Another bath has a winterized toilet and a tub and sink. Most rooms are ample by the standards of a cottage.
If you are looking for a quiet, private getaway, this just might be the place for you!
