Every season offers unique attractions - summer wildflowers, fall aspen foliage, winter snowstorms, and spring's awakening!
From mild (a stroll down a quiet road) - to wild (Class V Arkansas River rapids) the area offers something for everyone. Our favorite activities include hiking, biking, river rafting, camping, fishing, relaxing, stargazing, shopping, skiing, snowshoeing, and 4-wheeling. ATV and snowmobile rentals are available nearby.
The Wet Mountain Valley is a 'dark skies' community. The heavens above are filled with sparkles due to the high altitude and lack of light pollution.
Nearby Attractions include- Sangre De Cristo Mountains and Wilderness, Wet Mountains/San Isabel National Forest, Royal Gorge Bridge (above!), Royal Gorge Train (below!), Monarch Ski Mountain, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Mission Wolf, and Hardscrabble Pass.
Elin Rusher's ranch at Music Meadows lies directly across the valley. She hosts an authentic horseback adventure on her working ranch - we tried it for the first time in the summer of 2010, and had a blast!
Westcliffe is 10 miles to the north, with a quaint downtown featuring unique eateries, shops, and festivities. It was once the third largest town in Colorado, in contention for the capital. Now, a little over 500 friendly people call it home.
For pilots, the adjacent airport C08 offers self-serve 100LL fuel, and the use of our 60 x 50 hangar with a 4 x 4 Suburban for transportation.

We designed and built our cabin. Living in the pancake-flat Wichita KS, it provides us with an terrific getaway a couple times a month!
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2008
We'd been flying to Monarch Ski Area for years, and this was a convenient, friendly location with an splendid view!
Our favorites are hikes on Rainbow Trail, skiing at Monarch, snowmobiling in the Wet Mountains, and sunset walks on the quiet community roads.
Very quiet and remote. Beautiful night skies when no clouds. The home was clean. Bonuses were Keurig machine and Jacuzzi, and full size washer and dryer. Plenty of bedding and towels No curtains means waking up to the beautiful Colorado mountain sunrise. Adorable little animals and wonderful birds within sight. Great place between hiking trails and close enough to Westcliffe for a grocery store. Matt's welcome informational email explained everything. Perfect for families with active teenage boys.
A huge variety of activities available close to this welcoming cabin! The views are so fantastic that it will be tempting to sink into the comfortable furniture, relax and make use of the well stocked kitchen! Hosts are wonderful to work with and have thought of everything to make your stay very special!
Our family of 12 stayed, very comfortably, in this oasis for a week. The kids enjoyed running around outdoors, roasting marshmallows and learning how to play horseshoes. We all enjoyed the beautiful scenery and fun activities all within a short drive. In one short week, we hiked up to nearly 11,000 feet, rafted in the Arkansas River, shopped in Westcliffe, watched the deer and antelope play and were kissed by wolves! The lodging was perfect with easy indoor/outdoor access, open floor plan, laundry and comfortable sleeping. This would be a perfect spot anytime of the year. We can't wait to go back!
We had a great time in Westcliffe! The drive through the mountains on 96 on the way into Westcliffe ~ gorgeous! The cabin faces the perfectly snowcapped view of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains ~ stunning! We liked the cabins open floor plan and most important the beds were of good quality and comfortable. There are great horseback riding opportunities in the area and my young adult children were very happy with their riding experience. The Royal Gorge park has had many updates and is not too far away. We enjoyed the shops in Westcliffe and the owners and staff were really friendly and helpful. Thank you for sharing your mountain cabin, we had a great time and hope to come out that way again someday!
We had 4 people in our group, but the house could have accommodated more. Beautiful spot especially being the Fall. Night sky is spectacular from the many windows of the house. Great fireplace among many amenities and cozy home feel. Wonderful part of Colorado. Would stay there again.
It's easy to forget how beautiful a clear, dark sky is when you live in an area that no longer has one. Matt's house is located just outside of Westcliffe which has been designated an International Dark Sky Site ... in fact the highest altitude IDS site in the world. The house walls are mostly large windows, which provides a wide view of both the sky at night and the surrounding mountains during the day. The house has comfortable furniture, plenty of cook ware, and an interesting loft design for the bedrooms. After busy days enjoying the surrounding area and activities, it was great to have a peaceful place to return to in the evenings.
