Beautiful view of the San Juan Mountains!

  • 5 of 5

If you are properly prepared (appropriate four-wheel drive vehicle) a beautiful cabin awaits you with views that you cannot get enough of. The cabin is well equipped for cooking. A small bedroom provides a cozy retreat for the night, with plenty of loft space for additional guests. The living room with the wood stove is a wonderful place to hang out in the evenings. The cabin features solar lights and a compost toilet, but no running water. Bring appropriate containers and fill up at the owner's other property before you leave the paved highway. Awesome hiking close by, our favorite trip was to Columbine Lake. This was an awesome place to kick back and relax!

stunning views, cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

The views from the cabin and its deck are magnificent. The cabin is surrounded by wildflowers and has visiting deer, chipmunks, gray jays, and juncos. Cabin had everything you would need and bed downstairs was very comfortable. Toilet was a bit of a pain, but better than an outhouse.

Takes a little effort to get there but well worth it.

  • 5 of 5

Keeping in mind this is a place for those who want to get away and don't need to be pampered, the cabin is very well equipped. Everything was self explanatory or well marked with instructions. The views are what it's all about!!! Just as easily could have been in the Swiss Alps. Great Place, I will definitely go back.

Spectacular location!

  • 5 of 5

This is the first review I've ever done, but the Mountain Belle cabin is well worth the effort. My husband and I agreed that it was the best place we've ever spent the night in.

Not for the faint of heart or someone who wants room service, this cabin requires four wheel drive to get to and has no electricity other than solar powered lights and an indoor RV toilet. But, oh, the views and connection with nature it has! It is completely off the beaten path though only two miles from the highway. On a hike, we saw elk and other wildlife. The cabin itself had wrap around windows, so we went to bed seeing the multitude of stars and woke up seeing the surrounding mountains. A creek runs just down the mountain a little ways.

The cabin itself was beautiful, comfortable and clean - wood stove, fully stocked wood pile, kitchen with all the dishes and cookware you would need. The owners were great to work with, and the price was spectacular compared to the other cabins in the area.

This was the highlight of our trip!

The Mountain Bell Cabin is located 9 miles north of Silverton and 13 miles South of Ouray on Highway 550. About 15 minutes to Silverton and 35 minutes to Ouray. This cabin is out of town in the mountains and has no neighbors. It is just less than a mile off the main highway 550 on a county dirt road. The dirt road is county maintained and is easily accessed with 4 wheel drive. It is a little steep and can be slippery when wet so we don't recommend 2 wheel drive but many people have accessed using 2 wheel drive with some clearance. The driveway to the cabin should only be used with 4 wheel drive.
