|Minimum Stay||30 nights|
Our property is across the street from Krasl Art Center, Kitty corner from the library, 2 blocks to all the restaurants and stores of downtown St. Joseph and 3 blocks from Curious Kids Museum. We also have attached studio that can sleep up to 4: 2 adults/2 children
This is my second year renting here. Only 3 blocks away from the downtown area, and a block away from the library and museum, it is very easy to go somewhere without a vehicle. Additionally, people, food, and stores are wonderful here!
If you are not much for being inside, last year a newly covered porch was added. If any problems or concerns came about, they were dealt with immediately to ensure I had a pleasant experience. This has been the best rental experience I have ever had.
Nice location. Nice town.
Now the bad news. No heat in upstairs bedrooms (freezing in winter). No fans for summer circulation. No lamps upstairs. Might be a good summer rental, but freeze in bedrooms in winter.
What a great place to stay. Yes, it's walking distance to the beach. But, it's also walking distance to everything else. Downtown St. Joe is just two blocks away. Plenty of choices for all ages. The house itself is roomy and has all you need for an extended stay. The owner is very responsive, helpful and made the stay more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place.
Our family of four enjoyed our stay in this home. The location was perfect: we were able to walk anywhere we wanted to go in St Joseph, and because we were two blocks from downtown, the area was quiet in the evenings when our girls went to sleep. The front porch provided "spillover" room--we often ate breakfast out there in the morning. The house itself is not fancy, but we had everything we needed. On two occasions we called the owner with small problems or questions, and he handled both immediately.
I worried that we might start to get bored staying a whole month in St Joseph, but we did not. We recommend the children's museums (we bought a membership, which let us come and go as often as we liked), Silver Beach, Kiwanis Park,
the carousel, Hidden Pointe (in Benton Harbor), and Mimi's Cupcakes. Check out the library's events: we attended two garden concerts and several events for kids. My husband and five-year-old went on a pirate adventure through the maritime museum in South Haven (definitely worth the money), and the Sarett Nature Center kept us busy for a whole day (bring bug spray).
We have two suggestions for people considering this house for a vacation:
(1) The only bathroom is downstairs and the bedrooms are upstairs, so everyone in your group must be able to climb stairs easily.
(2) The window units in the bedrooms and downstairs cool the rooms well, but they also block out a lot of sound. This was great for helping my kids sleep, but if you have little ones, you will want a baby monitor even when you're sleeping in adjacent rooms.
We look forward to staying in this house again next June.
I have stayed at this property twice this past year. I travel quite a bit and have to say this was one of, if not the best place to stay and a great value. The location is prime, and the owner was always very helpful. I fell in love with the area . one word to describe this place, "PERFECT". I will be back.
