ON GOLDEN POND is the perfect vacation home for a group of 10 or less.Since the property is a wildlife refuge, this home isn't used as the venue for other activities, such as reunions, weddings, etc.
On Golden Pond is located in the Bitterroot Valley in Montana with close views of the Bitterroot and Sapphire mountains. You can walk out any of the bedrooms or the den and watch waterfowl on the pond and deer sleeping on the grass.
Whitetail deer, fox, coyote, California quail, ducks, geese, pheasants, turtles and bull frogs are some of the wildlife that call this property their home. That is why we limit the amount of guests. You can see wildlife in action when the environment is calm!
I always use VRBO when I travel so it was easy to place this home with them. I retired from a 32 year career in 2006. My goal was to start a lavender farm on the property and that is what I am doing!
Marilyn A. Morris purchased this house in 2000
My family is from Montana and we love it here!
beautiful mountain setting; 33 acres of wildlife habitat; 2 trout ponds
Even though I grew up in Hamilton, I think of the view from your deck when I reminisce about the Bitterroot. This was our fourth time staying On Golden Pond.We have gazed at the deer, quail, hummingbirds, finches, chick-a-dees, sunrises, sunsets, the moon and the stars all week long. Another fabulous, relaxing vacation!
We have rented this house several times and have always enjoyed it. The location is wonderful for our fishermen, right in the Bitterroot Valley, and close enough to Hamilton to do some historic touring and beer sampling. The house is comfortable and very well stocked. The kitchen is excellent. Views from the front and back porches are impressive. Most days there are deer and quail on the property. Marilyn is an excellent host. I can't say enough about how great a rental experience this has been.
A comfortable house and a delightful owner. My friends and I have been staying here for three weeks every year for nearly ten years if my calculations are correct. We vary from 4 people to 8 and really are incredibly privileged to be welcomed back each year to this haven with its abundance of wildlife. The house is well appointed with large bedrooms, comfortable beds, modern bathrooms and good quality linens. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances. Dining can be indoors or out and is well catered for. Views are 360 great. We love it which is why we return every year.
My husband and I stayed at On Golden Pond for 3 nights and had a great time. First of all, the home is perfect. Marilyn has thought of everything that you might need while at your home away from home. And, I don't know how she keeps the home so clean given it is on a dirt road, but everything was immaculate. And, speaking of Marilyn she is the perfect host. I texted her when we arrived and she came over to show us around the house. She was available if we needed her but basically left us alone to explore as we saw fit, which is ideal for us. Plus, Marilyn is so friendly and helpful... she definitely knows how to make guests feel comfortable.
And, then there is the wildlife. Living outside of Steamboat Springs, we see plenty of wildlife at our home but On Golden Pond was a special treat because we were entertained by a mama moose and her 2 babies. They hung around the front and back of the home for almost an hour on two of the days we were there. So cute. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay there again. Would highly recommend it.
The home was even better than its description.
The home was spacious, very clean, uplifting. The layout of the house allows for private corners, as well as fun get-together areas. Our boys enjoyed the pool table and foos ball, playing endlessly. A night-time dip into the hot tub, under the bright moon--what a sumptuous treat! I especially enjoyed the well-appointed kitchen. I could look out at the stunning Bitterroot Mountain Range as I prepared meals. The master bedroom was well appreciated: very comfortable, clean, large bed, gas fireplace, big shower & bath tub, spacious walk-in closet. The owner made us feel very welcome and was there if we needed her (but everything is so well put together, we didn't need her for much...just enjoyed her friendly company a few times). We saw a lot of wildlife--deer, birds, a muskrat on the pond (?), and even a moose with two calves passed through (I guess that is quite exceptional--a thrill!). There is even a wonderful garden that we could harvest. A the paddle boat on the small pond was so much fun.
We stayed mostly at the house, so I can't speak to the local attractions and restaurants. I knew that they were there, but we liked just staying at the house and visiting the property.
Overall a great experience!
We all enjoyed our stay at Golden Pond, from great grand parents to teenagers. All were in awe of the daily visits from deer with fawns, moose with babies, quails, and fishing in the ponds. The teenagers loved the paddle boats, hot tub and pool tables. This was a great place for our family gathering !
Thank you so much for sharing your home and property!
Debbie Oliver and family.
Three generations and room for all to have some privacy and different activities. Yet large social areas for getting together and enjoying ech other's company. Went paddle boating on the pond, rapid rafting on nearby rivers, hiking at a lovely park and enjoyed the hot tub at the end of the day. Marilyn was available and helpful . Highly recommended!

Thank you for supporting this!
The Bitterroot Valley is known for its beauty and a style of life which is sought after. We are surrounded by mountains, Sapphire mountains and Bitterroot mountains. We have historical sights surrounding us. Lewis and Clark traveled through this valley and almost starved while doing so. We have the Selway wilderness area to the west of us.
