Overview

Charleston Area Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Welcome to 'Seaglass Serenity'... Incredible location.... Beachfront at the mouth of Charleston Harbor, this charming ground floor condominium has views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Charleston Harbor.

The wide sandy beach is ideal for sunbathing, swimming, fishing, or launching small sailboats. The National Park Service and the Town of Sullivan's Island maintain over a mile of undeveloped, protected beach and maritime forest adjacent to the property where you can have undisturbed strolls on the beach. The condo is immediately next door to Fort Moultrie, a National Historic Site with museum and tours, that played significant roles in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War. Fort Sumter, site of the first conflict of the Civil War, can be seen across the harbor. The main channel into Charleston lies nearby, allowing clear views of every ship passing into or out of the harbor. Dolphins play just off shore.

This condo is one of four individually owned units that were originally built as Army Nurse's quarters circa 1910, and are the only vacation rental beachfront condominiums on Sullivan's Island. This unique historic property preserves the charm of the hundred year old structure, but this unit has been renovated and professionally decorated to appeal to today's traveler. The condominium features large front and back screened porches with ceiling fans, rocking chairs, swing, and dining area. The remodeled back porch features a Charleston Bed Swing. Inside, the original hardwood floors give the condominium the feel of an old Southern beach cottage, while providing all modern amenities including flat panel HDTVs (2), stereo with iPod dock, and Wi-Fi. The ground floor location allows easy access with parking only a few steps away. The condo has two bedrooms with the beach-side bedroom having a queen bed, while the rear bedroom has two singles.

Sullivan's Island provides a location that is quiet, uncrowded, with a very relaxed lifestyle. There is not a single traffic light on the island. The island is primarily residential; yet it has several excellent restaurants, post office, library, art gallery, and small grocery store within a mile of the condo. The three mile long island is perfect for exploring by bicycle or golf cart. Public tennis courts and playground are just down the street. One of the beauties of this quiet oceanfront paradise is that it is only a 15 minute drive from historic downtown Charleston and even closer to the shopping and dining areas of Mount Pleasant.

*This is a Saturday-Saturday, weekly only, rental from 5/16/15 to 8/29/15; 3 night minimum in off season. *

About Laura Wall

We are a family of four from Atlanta who have been vacationing in the Charleston area and South Carolina Low Country for many years. We have come to enjoy the Charleston area best of all. We find the combination of Southern Charm, history, shopping, and excellent food compelling. Now that we have an anchor at Sullivan's Island, we are happy to share the beautiful, quiet beach; access to wonderful local restaurants -- especially seafood; friendly locals; historic Ft. Moultrie, Ft. Sumter (viewed from our condo), the beautiful ships coming into Charleston Harbor; and historic, authentic, Charleston!

Laura Wall purchased this condo in 2008

Why Laura Wall chose Charleston Area

We wanted a beachfront location that was free of crowds, quiet and relaxing, yet close to excellent dining and entertainment. We enjoy the history of Charleston from the old rice plantations to the fine pre-revolutionary city homes. Charleston has a grace and charm that few American cities possess. From the performances of the Spoleto Festival, the excellent antique shopping, the tours of historic sites, to the Shrimp boats and fishing charters on Shem Creek, Charleston captivates. Sullivan's Island provides easy access to all this, but seems a world away from the bustle.

What makes this condo unique

This is an extremely relaxing location, beachfront at the Charleston harbor entrance where dolphins play, and you get close up views of all the ships entering the harbor. The island is perfect for bicycle riding, has several excellent restaurants within a mile, and is loaded with history. Outdoor activities abound, from deep sea fishing, to wildlife tours of the salt march, to excellent golf on nearby Isle of Palms.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is our first time in the quaint Sullivan's Island. Your cottage fits in perfectly.

It takes us back in time, growing up, going to the coast of North Carolina. Being here - watching the cargo, cruise, and fishing boats - dolphins, seagulls - makes us long for that time again.

You have truly created such an inviting and well cared for place. The porch swings are such a bonus - the new sheets and comforter - the very adequate kitchen - made us want for nothing.

We wondered as we sat on the swings what so many topics have been discussed over the last 100 years here.

We want to come back when you are available and bring our 92 year old father - this would be perfect.

Peaceful and relaxing

This is a great oceanfront property near Charleston. The owners provide everything you need, including beach chairs, beach towels, kitchen utensils and other needs. The apartment is well-maintained and clean. I will definitely be staying there again for a relaxing beach vacation.

Great experience!

  • 5 of 5

It doesn't get much better than Sullivan's Island. And it really doesn't get much better than staying in a house right on the beach on Sullivan's Island! The condo was adorable, cozy, and beachy. It has everything you could think of in a beach house. My husband and I were there for our honeymoon and when we entered, there was chilled champagne, flutes, and a personal note from the owners. It made us feel immediately welcome and was such a lovely gesture. The house was equipped with anything and everything we needed during our stay. The location of the house could not be better! We could walk to Fort Moultrie and the beach was literally steps away. We had an absolutely wonderful honeymoon experience and would be happy to stay here again in the future!!

My Dream Condo

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time to stay at Seaglass Serenity on Sullivan's Island, SC, and it was even better than the first time. We were there from May 28-June 4, 2016.

1) There is now a keyless entry; this has made me see the light! I must have one;

2) The hose at the doorway so that you can spray your feet and shoes;

3) The tray on the porch to store the shoes for drying;

4) The bathroom--I love that shower;

5) Lamps--good lamps--everywhere--sometimes you just want to sit in a chair and read;

6) And you can because if you forgot your own, Laura has supplied books, both easy beach reads and more in-depth volumes on SC history;

7) The front porch--my--I mean, Laura's--rockers and screens and ceiling fans. As I was sitting there one day, I thought, "I could really use an ottoman." I glanced at the swing and there it was! There's a table between the rockers for your tea or other beverage and the view is perfect. Eat on the porch--it's perfect.

It's a very short walk to the beach, but if you don't feel up to it, just sit on the porch and watch the ships go by. It's a great way to pass a day.

I could go on but you'd start thinking I was making it up. One last thing--I was sitting on the porch with my drink and my book--my feet on that ottoman--when I remarked that I really just needed a cat to make it perfect. I went inside for a minute, came back out, and there was a cat! If you don't like cats, there's a porch door that she cannot open, but if you do like them, she's ready to be liked.

Great place with all the amenities you could want. Don't hesitate--book it today before I get to it again. And eat the shrimp roll at The Obstinate Daughter. Really good. Make a reservation.

Most sincerely,

Denise Sherrod

Owner's Response: Denise, Your in-depth review about Seaglass Serenity was great! And, good visual pictures. Thanks so much! It helps us prepare for you better, by hearing what you like. And, the black cat "Nat", is supplied by our upstairs neighbor's, who live there full time. We are so happy that you had a good vacation! And, we will have more new things for you to discover on your next trip -- which we hope is soon! Laura

What a beautiful place to rest and recharge.

  • 5 of 5

Seaglass Serenity is a fantastic place, right on the beach, the pictures do not do it justice. It is a charming place, everything you would ever need to cook a meal and enjoy the screened porch. The sunsets are amazing and walking on the beach makes you aware of the majestic work of the Lord. We would recommend to all our family and friends to stay at Seagrass when visiting Charleston. It is close to restaurants but far enough down the beach to be quiet and restful. Thanks to Laura and Bill for making a welcoming and warm place to stay on Sullivan's Island. Seaglass should be in a coastal magazine.

Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Spring Vacation on Sullivan's Island

  • 5 of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this condo! The condo is the perfect size for 1-2 adult visitors, or even parents with 1-2 children. The condo has very modern decor and furnishings, is extremely clean, roomy, and is very comfortable. With the ocean approximately 100 yards away, it is a quick walk to enjoy beach time surrounded by peace and serenity. The island is very laid back, with minimal traffic and minimal visitors to this section of beach. I typically visit the Charleston area two times per year, staying at different locations to get a feel for where I may reside once I retire. This island is at the top of my list. I plan to reserve this condo again for a future visit.

My stay was extremely relaxing and refreshing, re-charging my batteries until I return to the Charleston area for another visit this September. Laura is very easy to work with and is very responsive to e-mails. I highly recommend this condo to anyone considering a Sullivan's Island vacation!

Owner's Response: Your review is so important to us, as well as to other travelers. We tailor everything from the flower containers at the front door, to the quality of linens, to provide the most pleasant experience we can for our guests. The feedback is so important to know that we are doing "the right things"! And, we are always trying to keep everything fresh and comfortable - including new mattresses, and new amenities, like beach towels (so that you don't have to bring so much from home). Thank you for your great review! We look forward to hosting you again! And, when you are ready to purchase a place of your own, we can give you the name of the best residential realtor.

Most beautiful cottage on Sullivan's Island

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here several times and every time we are more in love with this beautiful cottage. Everything a guest could need or want is provided and the thought and details that went into furnishing the cottage is evident.

We love the charm of the old cottage feel and even though it is small, it works so well for us.

The views are unsurpassed and the seating near the beach is perfect. There is even a fire pit!

This is our first choice of homes every time we come to the Charleston area. The only down side is it's always booked!

And it's easy to see why once you have experienced the magical feel in the cottage by the sea.
