  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit in two years. first was for our honeymoon and now this year for our first anniversary. my wife grew up about 10 houses down from here and loves going back. very private! and very relaxing! the house and the beach are very clean! almost have the beach to yourself. I would and have recomended this for anyone who wants to get away and relax. thanks again guys we had a great time!

I was hoping for a pleasant beach vacation and most of the reviews I read led me to believe would have just that. That was not the case. The beach itself was barren, no plants, as it had to be repaired from extensive storm damage, it reminded me of a desert. I understand that was not the owner's fault. The house appears to have been water damaged also. The entry way was in deplorable condition. You could clearly see the where the water damaged the lower level. Well, OK, it was only an entrance. However the living space was not in good condition either. There was not a screen on the sliding glass door that faced the Bay. You could not open the door as the gnats and flies were HORRIBLE. Who wants to sit in a closed up, small, apartment without the breeze off the water. Also, the fan in the bathroom was unusable. We were afraid to turn it on as it had a black greasy substance all over and inside it. We thought perhaps it was mold from the water damage. Mold is definitely a health hazard not just an inconvenience. There were other issues that I won't address. I contacted the owner by letter when we returned home but I have not heard from him. I asked for some compensation at his discretion. I will not rent from this owner again. The owner was accommodating when renting and we did enjoy the overall visit as we had visited Cape Henlopen in the past. I can't imagine being fortunate enough to own a beachfront property and letting it fall into disrepair. I contacted the owner before writing a review to give him time to reply. He did not.

Owner's Response: This person tried to bribe me to get money ! The beach is Sand ,did she expect a forest? This property has only water marks from guest spraying off there feet in the entrance level, that is meant for this! I found the fan did stop working in the bath and will repair this and install a new screen door before the new season . There is No mold in this house! I have great rates on a beautiful Beach.

In love..

  • 5 of 5

If you love gorgeous views and a lot of privacy, you will love this rental. We felt as if we had our own private beach! When we wanted some action, we were anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes from any store, restaurant, mini golf course or rehobeth boardwalk....we had a lovely day at Cape Henlopen beach and some historical sites as well....the home itself was tidy and adorable. The owner was very nice and accommodating. The only issue we had is the weight we gained from eating homemade hot donuts from the Broadkill "Mall" lol..definitely going back.

Wildlife sanctuary

  • 3 of 5

This was my first stay at Broadkill beach. It was right up my alley, mostly residential with just one small store. It is beautiful and quiet...a great place to walk the beach and take short bike rides. There is a beach restoration project that is ongoing this year until April 2016 (as per the local paper). The beach is being extended several hundred yards out towards the bay, with a pretty tall dune in front. The heavy equipment runs around the clock and was very near the house the week we stayed. After the project is completed, getting to the water edge will require a longer walk past a dune.

First the pros: Great location! This place was essentially beach-front. Walk out the front door and you are on the beach (at the time of our stay). The deck was the best feature. We spent most of our time on the deck. The inside was small but very clean and bright. Exactly what we needed. It is a plus that pets are welcome at this rental.

Cons: The kitchen chairs are very uncomfortable. I think they were meant to have cushions that were no longer present. The kitchen was sparsely furnished, so if you plan to cook food in, plan to bring your own items. A pizza cutter and a larger pan to boil corn/crabs would have been nice. There was a shortage of paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags. Luckily I brought some of my own. The frig is very small, so we had to use a cooler for keeping drinks and food cold. We had to borrow some kitchen items from a neighbor when making meals. The gas grill was not filled with gas (a bummer since we planned on grilling a few meals). I have extensive experience renting vacation homes and this rental was on the sparse side compared to most.

Also, this place is a duplex, with the lower level rented out. It was my first time renting a duplex. Not sure that I would do that again. The stairs are shared between the 2 units, and access for the other unit requires that the occupants must pass by the front door and outdoor seating area for this unit.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Quiet Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my stay in this very clean, comfortable, quiet condo feet from the beach. The listing description and pictures were accurate, the property very well maintained. The owner was very accommodating. I asked to rent the property quickly, within days and the owner was very helpful. He also let me change the check in and check out times which made the whole experience worth it. During my time there were not a lot of people so I literally had the beach to myself and my labrador. It was heaven! Will return to Broadkill if I have another chance!

Simply wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 5 nights and had a fabulous time. The front and back balcony views were amazing as they offered a disparate scene to truly let you know how well situated this place is - the bay on side and the preserve on the other. Sunrises and sunsets just by moving to another balcony.

Low key vibe. Good for fishing and wading in the calm waters. Horseshoe crabs were spawning and what a majesty of nature to behold up close and personal.

The 3 of us were 2 adults and a child plus our disabled dog. Perfect.

The owner is top notch and professional to deal with and a good personality to boot. I have seen some reviews noting things that are - well - what is at the beach when you are basically on the water!

No complaints here. Will be back!
