We have been married for 30 years, have two grown sons, and live most of the year in South Florida, where we have a textile business. Kim is a recently minted psychotherapist. We are fans of yoga, hiking, swimming, cooking, theater, and independent films.
Kim Block purchased this house in 1998
After renting for two summers in Great Barrington, and partaking in the amazing cultural experiences and soaking in the natural beauty of the Berkshire Mountains, we knew we wanted a permanent retreat to return to, year-round. We can have peace and tranquility when we want it, at the same time being minutes away from great restaurants and entertainment.
We love experimenting with different hikes and bike rides, and exploring the various lakes and rivers available within minutes of leaving our property. In summers, Tanglewood is a weekly excursion. Summers also offer abundant locally grown produce. Whatever we don't grow in our garden, we can purchase from the amazing nearby markets. In winter, skiing at Catamount and Butternut is minutes away.
This was a great place to share with family and friends for the weekend! The property was beautiful, clean, and there was ample space for all. At night, the sky was perfect for stargazing, and several shooting stars were seen! We had a fantastic weekend and highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a retreat in the Berkshires!
We are part of two couples who travel to the Berkshires each year to attend concerts at Tanglewood and the theater. This was our first year that we rented a home rather than stay at one of the local Inns. The home was indeed true to its listing. The views of the mountains were great, the house spacious and well maintained, and the master suite and bedrooms nicely furnished. We had one small problem with the home during our stay and Kim promptly responded to our concerns and followed up after our visit. The other couple stated at the end of the weekend that they thought we should repeat our rental in the coming fall or next year and we agree.
First, it's important to note that Kim was the most attentive VRBO/Homeaway host I've ever had. She checked in with us to be sure we'd arrived okay, she checked in to make sure everything was all set, and she responded promptly when we had a question. She's great!
The house is similarly great. We were three women and our three (8-10 month old) babies, so we were a handful. The house was perfect, with a semi-open plan, large spaces, and not a lot for the little guys to hurt themselves on. The beds were incredibly comfortable, especially with the cool breezes coming in the windows. The kitchen was spacious and allowed us to pull together group meals even with all the kids crawling around our legs. Everything matched the listing exactly and we weren't met with any unpleasant surprises. (One pleasant surprise -- there's a piano in the semi-finished basement!)
We especially loved the outdoor space -- the wraparound porch and the expansive lawn -- and how close we were to great hiking (Bash Bish Falls & the Iron Works were beautiful and easy even when carrying the extra twenty pounds of kid) and the charm of Great Barrington. All told, loved our stay.
We met up with family over the weekend at this lovely home. We had three couples and two children along and everyone had a great time! There was plenty of space, comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. Kim was so great to work with. Our car broke down unexpectedly and Kim was amazing in helping us extend our stay while it was fixed. I highly recommend this home!
My girlfriends and I loved the property. We sat outside and barbecued the first night. It was a great base for hiking, shopping, restaurants and shows nearby. The beds were so comfortable and the place felt like home. I would not be surprised if one or all of us stay here again.
Kim has done such a remarkable job presenting their Zen getaway. The first thing my friends said as we pulled up the driveway was that the house looked exactly like the pictures...and that assessment didn't change as we invaded every room with a group of seven non-related adults. There was plenty of space for everyone inside, though most of us found ourselves outside stretching our city legs out with the not-at-all oversold views of the mountains. Kim checked in on us without being intrusive but was responsive whenever we reached out, and her welcome letter left us with no questions and some great recommendations for activities. FYI, I have Virgin/Sprint and had zero reception in the area...others didn't fare much better with Verizon or AT&T, so be sure to take offline maps and use the Wi-Fi. This is a great house with great, big-hearted hosts who are invested in your having a good time, and it was hard getting everyone to leave but we finally managed.
