Welcome business or vacation travelers! STAY at our cheerful "pied-a-terre". The 1-bedroom apartment is ideal for 1 person or a couple. An extra guest can use the twin size sofa/bed in the living room.


Friendly owners live in the house below.

Walk to 2nd St's restaurants and shops.

Bike or walk to the nearby beaches.

Very walkable neighborhood, fun for people-watching.

Bus stop to downtown Long Beach's restaurants and attractions is a block away.

About Colleen or Al

Al was born in Honolulu and left for the mainland when he was a toddler. He grew up in Long Beach - attended Lakewood High and USC with a strong focus on water sports. Now, he plays bridge and tries to improve on his golfing. Colleen was born in Hong Kong and moved to NYC at age 5. She graduated from the H.S. of Fashion Industries and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Interior design is her forte. She isn't very athletic but will join Al for snow skiing when the conditions are perfect. They both do Argentine tango and ballroom dancing several times a week. Waldo, their 15 year old rescued 'schnoodle' watches over Colleen and keeps strangers at bay with his ferocious bark.

Why Colleen or Al chose Los Angeles County

Colleen fell in love with the enclosed Spanish courtyard and, although the house was a fixer-upper, she was successful in convincing Al to join her in tackling the remodeling projects. It's now a very comfortable and elegant home.

What makes this apartment unique

The house is in a very walkable neighborhood and only 1 block from 2nd St where there are a variety of restaurants, shops and amenities. Its proximity to the major freeways makes it a perfect "home" base for work and recreation in Los Angeles and Orange County. Of course the mild weather with mostly sunny days is the best benefit of all!

Colleen and Al were just wonderful! They met us when we arrived and showed us around. We had everything we needed. The location was great. We could just walk across the street and had great shopping and wonderful restaurants. Great place to stay.

Lovely setting! Colleen really has a knack for decorating. Everything one needed for comfort was there. Close to great restaurants and shops. Very walkable. Great neighborhood. Plus, Colleen and Al are a very welcoming couple!! Plan to return.

Absolutely Wonderful!

Property was exactly as described . Location was great for me and walking distance to just about anything you would need. After a nightmare of an experience at an Air Bob I was very nervous but very quickly realized I had nothing to worry about. The unit was spotless and even though located in a busy area was so quiet on the inside you could not tell. Would highly recommend it. Colleen was VERY helpful. I will definitely use it again when I come to visit my son. Thank you for a wonderful stay Colleen!

TLC is needed

The apt. was close to many shops and restaurants. Upon arrival it was very hot in there, so would have been nice if the AC had been turned on and the drapes closed earlier. There were 2 TVs neither worked at first. One was fixed that night, the other needed a new remote. The coffee pot was in need of a major cleaning, which I was not going to do. It was quite thick with slime. Our son came to visit us that evening and he soaked the basket in hot soapy water. If a coffee pot is not used all the time the insides should be exposed to the air. Just leave it open. Then coffee pot did not work right as it brewed on the clean cycle. Very frustrating. The furniture was an issue. The cushions will not stay on the couch. There is one comfortable chair for reading and watching TV. Good for one person but not two. The shower leaked badly and shot right over the curtain to the floor. I suggest the owners live there for a couple of days and see what needs to be done.

Beautiful and comfortable.

Owners are available and hospitable. I didn't use them as much as I could have since I already knew the area. Suite is airy and private and walking distance to busy shopping and dining district not to mention the beach. I've already booked the unit again for my next stay in Long Beach.

Lovely apartment, nice owners, good neighborhood

We enjoyed our stay in Belmont Shore and would stay again at Pied a Terre. I agree with previous positive reviews, so have written this with a slightly different focus.

For those (like us) who are not familiar with L.A., Belmont Shore is a neighborhood of Long Beach that has quaint character, with charming single family homes. It felt very safe. L.A. traffic is such that you should stay very close to the major attractions that you plan to visit. From Belmont Shore, we found that Huntington Beach was easy to reach, as was the Aquarium of the Pacific, downtown Long Beach, and the Long Beach airport. We went to the Getty Museum in the middle of the day on a Thursday and the drive took two hours. Unfortunately, the parking lots were full, so we didn't get to enjoy the museum as there was no place to leave our car. We did drive the coastal roads on the return to Belmont Shore and enjoyed seeing beaches we've heard of or seen on TV.

The apartment is close to restaurants and stores, as well as the beach. A children's playground that gets a lot of use is across the street, and constitutes the main view from the apartment. There was no issue with noise, and I enjoyed watching children playing. Colleen is an expert decorator, so the apartment is furnished in a restful and welcoming style, and the patio is an equally appealing place to hang out. We cooked most of our meals in the apartment, and while we would have liked a full-size refrigerator and a dishwasher, the small kitchen had everything we needed.

The week we spent at Pied a Terre was unseasonably warm (summer), but the window A/C was adequate to keep the temperature comfortable with the drapes closed. When we first arrived, there was no parking in the block in front of the house, so we dropped off our luggage and hubby went to park the car. After that, we had no trouble finding nearby parking, so I recommend arriving sometime other than dinnertime on a nice weekend evening, if you can help it.

Colleen and Al were responsive, friendly, and helpful, while allowing us all the privacy we wanted. It would be hard to find better hosts.

Within walking distance are the beaches, restaurants, shops, banks and other amenities. Just 1 block away is the bus stop to the Long Beach Convention Center, Performing Arts Center, Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, and numerous restaurants in downtown Long Beach and Shoreline Village.

Long Beach, with its easy access to the major freeways, is a convenient base for visiting the attractions of Los Angeles (Hollywood, Universal Studios, Beverly Hills, etc.) and Orange County (Disneyland, South Coast Plaza Shopping Center, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, etc.). For the discerning visitor, stay and play in Belmont Shore, a friendly and exciting beach community of Long Beach.
