About Krista Kujat

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, I moved to NY in 2000 to pursue my passion for acting in film & theatre. I fell in love with Brooklyn, and I dreamt of one day owning a brownstone. That dream became a reality 5 years later. I'm an avid world traveller & always appreciate staying in non-toursity, local neighborhoods, so it gives me a lot of joy to create a space for visitors to discover, enjoy the soul of my neighborhood. Several films have since been shot at this location, and I still get requests for film shoots here. Come experience the charm & write your own adventure in Brooklyn!

Krista Kujat purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Krista Kujat chose Brooklyn

I love the charm of old brownstones, and this particular building had the rare details in tact, stained glass windows, gorgeous wood details that are often destroyed when buildings are renovated. The location, just a 5 minute walk from the subway was also a no-brainer!

What makes this apartment unique

Gorgeous pre-war details, 14 foot ceilings, old world charm.... hipster neighborhood... just a 5 minute walk to the subway!

Great apartment in a charming area!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this beautiful brownstone. The apartment had everything we wished for and suited us, a family of four, perfectly. Everything is clean and tidy and there are fans in every room which we appreciated this very hot week in June. Also, Crown Heights is a charming part of Brooklyn and the subway just a short walk away. Krista is easy to communicate with and answers quickly if you need to ask anything. We can highly recommend this apartment!

Spacious Brooklyn Brownstone Parlor Apartment

  • 5 of 5

Wonderfully appointed apartment, parlor floor of a Brooklyn Brownstone, easy walk to subway, 24 hour laundrymat at end of street with drop off service , several neighborhood grocery stores close by. Water pressure in shower was very good, gas stove with oven, full refrigerator with top freezer, microwave, plus all other items needed to cook meals. The living room has a couch and a love seat, both very comfortable. The original woodwork has been retained and is in excellent condition, beautiful parlor mirror , door frames and ceiling plaster work. Plenty of space for enjoying each other's company plus privacy if needed. My party was 2 adult sisters with 2 children . We had a great week in NYC partly contributed to having a very comfortable place to stay. I highly recommend, we will reserve again when next in the city. Krista was the perfect host, available if needed, which we did not.

Excellent place to stay: affordable; comfortable; outstanding owner to work with

  • 5 of 5

All about the apt. is accurate as stated. The surprise for me was how quiet and peaceful the building and neighborhood was, making it a respite from the crowds and sirens of Manhattan. It fit our needs well. We were two 74-year-old grandparents showing their two grandchildren (13,15) their favorite sites of the Big Apple. The bedroom overlooking the garden worked fine for us; the center bedroom and futon in the living room for the two teens, so that we each had a space of one's own with access to the bath and kitchen without disturbing one another. We found the apt. clean and comfortable, felt at home and actually safer in the neighborhood than in our own in the midwest! The car service to LGA worked exactly as the owner said it would. I called at 6 a.m. and in 8 minutes the driver was there. Cheap too (only $35 to LGA)! And, finally, as for the owner, she is the best I have worked with in apt. rentals. She responded quickly, accurately and clearly to my multiple queries (my middle initial stands for "worrier"). Getting to and from Manhattan by the underground was simple, and the seven-day pass a true bargain, especially to us who are devotees of public transportation. I will definitely try to book the apt. next year when I bring my ten-year-old to NYC.

Pleasant Place to Stay

  • 4 of 5

Having been to New York twice before, staying Mid Town and Harlem, we wanted to try a new district. We were very happy with our choice of apartment and location. We also needed 3 separate sleeping areas, and while I wouldn't call Krista's place three bedrooms, it worked with the futon in the dining / kitchen areas.

We changed our plans 24 hrs before arriving (early) and had problems with communications (our fault) but Krista responded at short notice. All of our dealings with her were prompt and reasonable. We received our deposit shortly after leaving.

The Parlor Suite comprises the entire gnd floor (up about 8 steps) of the Brownstone. It is like a home that somebody has walked out of. Kitchen was fully equipped, with some basic items available (tea, coffee, sugar, etc). When we wanted something "extra" we just searched and found it - umbrella, board games, heaters, vacuum, blankets, guide books etc. It is not new, it has some "character", but it was very clean and well maintained. Biggest complaint is that some floor boards squeaked, both in the Palor suite and when those living above moved about.

We enjoyed the Crown Heights local neighborhood. We followed Krista's recommendations for some of the local restaurants and had a good experience. (Tom's diner, Dutch Boy burger shop, Bagel Pub). The laundromat on the cnr was cheap, easy to use, had new machines. We used a 7 day metro card ($31 unlimited travel) and found plenty of options for rapid access to the sites we wanted. We used Park Place Shuttle (walk 3 - 4 min in same street) to Prospect Park to use the B and Q express trains (Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Sq) or Franklin Ave station (5 - 6 min walk) to get the 4 (express to Grand Central). If you don't have too much luggage the Airtrain, A line and the Shuttle will get you there from JFK for an extra $5 per person (cab was $50). Staying for 10 days, we used the Stop and Shop supermarket at Atlantic Ave for groceries (much cheaper and huge range compared to local).

We enjoyed our trip, exploring the big city and all it has to offer, but retreating to a local community to get some rest and a different perspective.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review Chris - I really appreciate it. Future guests will find this really helpful! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and found everything you needed. I really wish I could do something about those floor boards, but unfortunately it comes with the territory of a 100 year old brownstone. In any case, really glad to hear you found the apartment restful after your days of exploring the city. Wishing you the best in 2016!

We went to Brooklyn to visit my daughter and her family and needed a place to stay. The location of this amazing Parlor Suite is in a great part of the city, close to the subway. laundry, and great shops. I highly recommend this place to stay for your visit, it is very clean and the amenities provided are a plus. Krista has done a wonderful job with the place. The banana bread that was left for us quite yummy! Will definitely stay here again
