We are the owner-builders of Shearwater. We live where we want to vacation. Celeste has always wanted a home by the sea since she was a teenager.
Michael Lowes purchased this house in 2002
Front row seats are hard to find. When the right home site came available we took it.

This wonderful home is absolutely perfect for a multi-generation vacation. Everyone has room to spread out with a large common area when all want to be together. Very clean home! The kitchen is well equipped and lots of shelf space for food supplies for a large group. Beach access is perfect and the large decks are amazing. Might want to bring a flashlight for nighttime access. Our large family was so happy with this home and the owner was wonderful to work with.
The house was absolutely perfect for our group. It was well stocked with linens and kitchen supplies. It was stocked with everything we needed to cook large meals. It was cold and rainy so we didn't get much time outside, however the house was plenty large for everyone to have room to enjoy different things. Michael was very kind and we thank him!
We had such a fantastic time with our stay. The house was perfect for our large family. Wonderful amenities, location, and the view is spectacular. We will definitely be staying again.
This was our first time renting this house and was based on the internet description. We loved it and will be back! The kids loved sleeping in the downstairs area and the sand toys were a hit. The grandparents were happy on the main floor and the parents on the third floor. The view from various places in the house is beautiful. The kitchen is well supplied and the hot tub was enjoyed. No shower in the master bath was the only surprise. The rain even held off until the last day. Great long weekend!
Shearwater house...was everything we hoped for for a first time family vacation on the coast of Oregon! The house was perfect for us. It was clean upon arrival and had more than everything we needed. It has a very comfortable homey feel to it. We didn't want to leave! Thank you so much!
Our only concern...the lightbulbs on the main level deck were burnt out...as well as the jacuzzi area was pitch black after dark. Just FYI. Minor.
This was our family's fourth time staying at Shearwater and we're already planning our next! We love that we can all (10 of us this time, but we've had as many as 14) sit around the table and eat a meal together...but there's room for everyone to have their own space as well. The owner has done several improvements in the last year including new furniture, tv, drapes and futons. Last winter the high waves took out the steps down to the beach, but they've already replaced the steps and we love wandering down the beach to the tide pools, building sandcastles and having a bonfire at the end of the day. We've always spotted whales and this time the seals were out (checking out the surfers we think!). The hot tub is perfect for the rainy/stormy days...we can't say enough about Shearwater! Last Christmas we had our 70+ parents join us, along with grandbabies as young as 1 and everyone had a super time! Michael was even kind enough to set up a Christmas tree for us to decorate. He's very easy to work with and so responsive to guests' needs. The location is perfect too...situated between Lincoln City and Newport and only a couple of miles from Depoe Bay. There's a little grocery store and coffee stand just a couple of blocks away, as well as Fishing Rock State Park within walking distance (a lovely walk/easy hike) with amazing views!
