We were thrilled with the location of the cabin. The views were amazing. The first day we arrived we noticed elk on the ridge above the cabin. As we watched a bull elk herded his ladies down the ridge, 40 in total, he made 41 they came down and descended into the pastures below. We also had mule deer, one with a dropped tine very close to the cabin. We also spotted a coyote on the first evening just above the driveway into the cabin. While to some the drive may be frightening, we were not alarmed as we are from Central PA and used to mountains and steep drives. The cabin was very well equipped, although I do think someone should go through the cupboards and refrig to remove duplicate outdated supplies. We had to clean the drawers of mice droppings and felt the entire home could use a deep cleaning. Being the end of the season may have accounted for the dead bugs and mice droppings and we are aware these things happen in the country, however they should be addressed. We traveled many high mountain roads, saw grizzly, elk, moose, coyote, eagles, mule deer, white tail, buffalo, egrets, swans, and various other birds. This is what we come to Montana for and we were not disappointed this year. We would absolutely stay at the Sunshine Chalet again, and hopefully the cleaning issues would be addressed. We found the beds to be comfortable, and the rooms adequate for our needs. We went up the road behind the cabin walked to the ravine and viewed four elk herds in the distance. This was our 6th trip to Montana and this was the most elk we have ever seen, perhaps the early snows brought them down from the mountains early. We were fortunate to run into an outfitter deep in the mountains, he invited us to his cabin site to view a bull elk his 14 year old son had just harvested. It was a unique experience and the entire family was warm and friendly. Hopefully we will be privileged to visit Montana again in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to call your chalet home for a week, our son joined us from Florida, and a niece and nephew from PA, we were all pleased with out trip.
Quiet spot with an amazing view
The cabin is convenient to Yellowstone and was a welcome retreat after a long day enjoying the park. The location is secluded and the mountain view is spectacular. The cabin is equipped with everything you could possibly want. Directions were clear and the host was very thorough, right down to equipment instructions and fire extinguisher locations. Loved it!
Fantastic view valley
A fantastic house, close to Yellowstone National Park. Easy to reach, no 4WD is needed. We've had a few deer close the house. We recommend the house.

Everday was an adventure
Our first impression of the Yellowstone Sunshine Chalet was the driving up the windy, bumpy mountain road to the house. The drive up was an adventure in of itself! Upon arriving at the house we were taken aback by the sweeping valley views - there wasn't a bad view from any window. The house served as our base camp for our visit to Yellowstone and it did not disappoint. Our young kids loved the treasure trove of play items in their bedroom and never experienced a moment of boredom. I'd definitely recommend the chalet as a retreat from hustle and bustle of Yellowstone.
Beautiful view and nice accomodations
My brother, sister, 87 year old mother, and I stayed for four nights. It was perfect for us. The bedrooms were comfy and the kitchen was fully stocked. We had a great time using the chalet for our base for visiting Yellowstone and the local area. Sitting outside and watching the deer became our daily habit. This was a great place for us. The local store in Emigrant was nice and friendly and we even checked out the Wild Flour Bakery and BBQ place. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
Cute house with great views
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sunshine Chalet in July 2017. House was very nice, clean, and was better than the description and photos on the website. After the crowds of Yellowstone it was a wonderful to come back to the house and enjoy the silence and summer breeze. Every night we watch deer graze 25ft from the amazing balconies. Would definitely come back here again.
Internet wasn't the speediest in the world since it's through the air repeater service, but it worked just fine for overnight photo syncs, general browsing, etc.
Renters should take note that the owner uses the Homeaway website/app to communicate the home directions and entry procedure. I was accustomed to receiving entry instructions via email from HomeAway owners so was a little panicked the day before when we still had not receive info. But after contacting the owner directly and downloading the Homeaway app all the info we needed was at our fingertips. I actually wish more Homeaway renters used the app as its quite nice. I'd suggest downloading the directions to the house on the app when you are in a nearby town as my Verizon phone lost GPS service a couple miles before reaching the house. It's easy to find the house though since all the driveways are numbered.
If you are eating out, I highly suggest going to Emmigrant. They are much cheaper than eating in Gardiner and the food was better quality. Wildflower Bakery and its attached smokehouse were amazing for lunch and dinner respectively. Groceries can be bought at the well stocked general store in Gardiner.
Again, I'd highly recommend this property. Can't go wrong.
Chico Hot Springs is just 18 miles away in Emigrant, MT, we are just 17 miles from the northern entrance of the Yellowstone National Park and Gardiner MT, 15 miles from Emigrant, 37 Min. from Livingston, 1-1/4 Hrs. from Bozeman Airport, 2-1/2 hours from Billings Airport.
