It's time to start making Summer and Fall Travel Plans for your getaway in 2018! This wonderful mountain chalet is hidden away on a private country no thoroughfare road in the small community of Viola. This area is equally as pristine as Tahoe, without the crowds and high rates. There is easy access to the North Entrance of Mt Lassen Park from the cottage, just about 8 minutes and you're there. We are fortunate to have very few neighbors which are mostly summer cabins, you can rest assured that you will have privacy and this is NOT IN A SUBDIVISION. There are many miles of trails to explore, right out the front door. We keep our calender current daily and offer this cottage from Memorial Day through Oct 31st. We are now taking reservations for the upcoming 2018 Season. This is our 10th season for rental and we would like to thank all of our visitors from around the world for making it possible for us to share the cottage.

This home is approximately 1850' total, newer construction (completed in the winter of 2007), 2 story, with 2 bedrooms downstairs and full bath with jacuzzi tub and shower, full kitchen (all new appliances and everything you will need to prepare any size meal) a, dining area and living room, plus 600' sleeping loft and den with 3 additional beds, quiet sitting area and 1/2 bath plus small deck with view of yard and the year round creek. So plenty of room to spread out. This is the perfect setup for 2 -10 guests.

There is also a large deck in front, back and side of cottage, a total of about 700 sq ft of decking which overlooks yards and creek., with a nice lawn out in the front yard.

Listed in Frommers Top Destinations to Visit - Lassen National Volcanic Park. Just under 4 hours from SF Bay Area and under 3 hours from Sacramento.

You will not be disappointed with this unique opportunity to stay at our mountain chalet.

There are many lakes, waterfalls and hiking trails very close by. Fishing is popular in this area with the The Famous Hat Creek just 20 minutes away. We have a year round creek in the back yard with small native trout and a fishing pond just down the lane. There is a campfire pit & small deck set up by the creek for family campfires and cooking. Campfires are only allowed if weather and conditions are suitable.

Other things to do in the area close by would include: Wineries, Subway Caves, Burney Falls, Fall River Golf Resort, Mt. Shasta Ski & Board Park, Lake Britton, Sundial Bridge. If you prefer to stay close to the house, there is an entire Private Forest Land right out the front door for hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding etc. Expect to see wildlife such as squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and deer. A relaxing massage can be arranged by appointment. The sound of the creek will put you into a pleasant nights rest.

We are located at 4500' elevation with comfortable days and nights during the summer and fall. The snow comes usually in December and stays through March or April. The winter activities would include: snowmobiling, snowboarding, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, tubing.

Bring the family or just get away for a romantic adventure.

Beautiful House!

The house has everything you need for a great vacation. Well stocked with amenities as well as a stream in the back yard. A wonderful location for exploring Lassen National Park.

Discovery Bay, California

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights at this property at the end of a 25-day trip in our 17 foot travel trailer. What a perfect finale! First, the house was THE cleanest VRBO property we have ever rented. It's one thing to have clean floors and bathrooms. It's quite another to have every utensil drawer spotless. Pretty amazing. Second, the stream that runs behind the property provides a perfect background melody for sleeping or enjoying morning coffee on the deck. Third, though we only slept in the master bedroom, we can attest that the bed in that room we extremely comfortable. Fourth, the proximity to the Park entrance that we used each day to reach trail heads was extremely convenient. Lastly, interactions with ownership were seamless. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Beautiful, great amenities, very well stocked home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We were two families with kids. The Jacuzzi was a hit with the kids. It is very spacious.

The gallery was an awesome place for all the kids to sleep together and have fun. The outdoor grill is top notch. The porch overlooks the creek and a patch of forest.

The only drawback, per my expectations, was that the creek, while accessible, lacks a spot that can be used as a "beach", so we didn't end up actually wading in it or enjoying that option.

Overall - a wonderful vacation home.

Near Lassen NW entrance - Tranquil cottage in the woods overlooking a rushing creek

  • 4 of 5

Rebecca has graciously shared her lovely home for a restful stay and a home base for exploring the wonders of Lassen Volcanic Natl Park, one of the most underrated NPs -- even many Californians haven't heard of this park (one of many designated by Teddy Roosevelt), the same distance from the SF bay area as Yosemite. We were originally going to Yosemite/Half Dome, a year in planning, when the fire and smoke caused us, sadly, to cancel, We were lucky to arrange this alternative at the last minute (confirmed the day we were to drive up!).

It's hard not to relax when surrounded by towering pines and firs and accompanied by the steady, soothing sound of a fast-moving, rocky creek -- good for chilling your feet after a day of hiking. The kitchen is well stocked, plenty of spices and utensils, the deck is a wonderful place for rehashing the day's adventures over dinner (there are bug candles but you might want to bring some bug spray), the area is safe, and we slept with the windows open to enjoy the cool air and be lulled to sleep by stream sounds.

Internet is broadband, so don't you dare bring work with you. It's good for occasional mail checks and cell phone data. Cell service in this area is limited to non-existent - again, it's time to relax! There is a phone for local calls or credit card distance calls.

The living area has chess, board games, puzzles, and an interesting collection of books (Euclid!). We didn't watch TV (DVD) but there is one in the loft. And, of course, Rebecca's signature fresh baked bread with butter and jam was a warm welcome after the half day drive.

Two restaurants and a pizza place - 18-20 miles from cabin. Markets also same distance with surprisingly nice selection of meats and veggies for being remote. Call to check restaurant hours before going, or check in person when you drive by on the way hiking or to market.

Highly recommend this cozy respite.

Lovely house in a peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the storybook cottage near Lassen. It's peaceful and comfortable, with lots of different spaces and places to sit indoors and outdoors. I also appreciated some little details like the fresh bread and a well-equipped kitchen.

We're travelling with two young kids (4.5 and nearly 2) and they loved exploring this house and sleeping up on the mezzanine. It also worked really well for us to be so close to Lassen National Park, as we went up there every day, sometimes twice.
