Centre Ville Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

If you enjoy the urban life, you’ll love spending time in this wonderfully situated apartment in the heart of Aix en Provence. If you like to be able to walk out the door and grab a newspaper, order a coffee and sit at a café watching the passers-by; if you find pleasure in museums and bustling markets where you might stumble across the occasional spontaneous street band; if you appreciate evening concerts and indulgences at a Roman spa, then this delightful apartment on the Cours Mirabeau in this quintessential Provençal town is for you. The apartment is nestled in a newly constructed complex on the Cours and yet is surprisingly quiet, as it is in fact located on the street behind and parallel to the Cours. The Cours Mirabeau is the center of the town, the main axis and its focal point. Replete with restaurants, bookstores, specialty shops and ice cream parlors, the Cours divides the quartier Mazarin from the old town. Although you’re in the heart of town, you're guaranteed quiet, privacy and an amazing night's sleep.

This charming apartment (75 sq mt) boasts an enclosed terrace with a small garden and outdoor table, a private entrance, two bedrooms (sleeps four total) with ample storage space, a living room/dining area, a totally modern kitchen, a full bathroom with tub and separate toilet. Air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter, complete with Provençal colors and plush bed linens, equipped with all modern conveniences (microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, TV/DVD player, radio/CD/stereo with iPod docking station, cable television in several languages, hair dryer, iron, free wifi connection, free telephone calls to all of Europe, the US and Canada), you'll feel like a native with all the conveniences of home. Its ideal location affords walking distance to all the boutiques and restaurants, the old town, shops and open-air markets. And if you’re thinking about exploring the nearby stunning countryside, a designated space at no extra fee in the on-site garage facilitates the parking of a car.

The Aixois like nothing better in the afternoons than to “flâner” (stroll) up and down the Cours, have a drink at a café and chat with their friends. You can join them and feel like a native by just by walking out the door. The nearby rue d’Italie is filled with shops and boutiques of all kinds, so convenient for shopping for the apartment. The Monoprix supermarket is down the street; bring the rolling cart with you to put your groceries in like everyone else in the neighborhood. You can walk to the daily marchés, as there is one every day in Aix and on some days two; there is no shortage of marvelous Provençal vegetables, flowers, and specialty products to tantalize your taste buds. The Granet Museum, one of the best in Provence, is two blocks away, and the gorgeous Saint Victoire Mountain (Cezanne's favorite!) is a short 15-min drive.

Aix-en-Provence is renowned for its music and lyric arts festival in June-July every year, and in August the nearby town of La Roque d’Antéron hosts an internationally acclaimed piano festival. During the year one can take any number of French classes for foreigners, many located within a short walk of the apartment. The state-of-the-art spa--a short 10-minute walk from the apartment--built on the authentic ruins of the former Roman spa, offers delightful cures, massages, water aerobics, and all sorts of relaxation for your aches and pains,.

Have a wonderful sojourn, however long or short, in this well-appointed apartment; it's designed to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. We'll be happy to furnish letters from satisfied guests who have offered to serve as references.

About Valerie Sutter

I fell in love with France and the French at the impressionable age of 14...and have never quite recovered. A devoted francophile/francophone for thirty+ years, I've wandered around every corner of France, thrilling to each region as if it's a different country, loving the differences and regionalisms I've encountered. Provence is one of my favorite areas, and I love to share it with guests. I've put as many creature comforts into this special 'chez moi' as I spend a lot of personal time there myself, and my guests have always been appreciative. You're here to enjoy yourself et vivre a la francaise! Let the party begin--que la fête commence!

Valerie Sutter purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Valerie Sutter chose Aix-En-Provence

Aix is quintessential Provence, a perfect town to hang around in on its own, or use as a focal point from which to discover the other joys of the south of France. I love the central location, the surprising quiet of the apartment, and the dedicated parking space in this town of difficult parking...and you can always keep in touch with home with the free wifi, free telephone usage to all of North America and western Europe.

What makes this apartment unique

You're 30 seconds away from everything...walk out the front door, et voila, the Cours Mirabeau in full swing...restaurants, shops, strolling, marchés, museums, monuments, boutiques, banks...or take a day trip to Les Baux, Avignon, Marseille, Cassis, Isle sur la Sorgue, Gordes, Roussillon....then retreat back inside after an outing, an ahh, the quiet and peacefulness of this wonderful air conditioned/heated apartment...where you can cook up a storm, relax and watch TV, check your email, take a nice hot shower et bonne nuit!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Things could not have been better!! We fell in love with your place in Aix. I cherished feeling like I was actually living there instead of just visiting. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity. This spacious place, so close and yet so far removed from the bustle of the Cours Mirabeau, was truly a gift. My sister and I were each thrilled that we could have our own private space, share a kitchen and a bath, eat outside in your darling garden, and walk everywhere! We did take a couple of days trips which I’ll list below. I hope you continue to rent this out so that I can bring my husband next time.

Wonderful location to experience this delightful town. Easy access to day trip by bus.

Visiting on the run up to Christmas added extra surprises. A comfortable apartment; easy to make your home.

None better!

  • 5 of 5

The only reason not to write an excellent review for this property would be to try to keep it all to oneself in the hope that no others would find out just how great it is. But that would do a great disservice to a wonderful host, Valerie Sutter.

We have rented in many countries and no place equals 48 Cours Mirabeau. It lacks nothing you might need. Valerie's anticipation of our needs was extraordinary. The terrace is a real bonus.

Others have written effusively about the apartment's location and Aix. To that I can add nothing. If you are a city person, you can't beat Aix for a medium-sized city with all the culture, food and shopping you could desire.

We live in Boulder CO. It is highly regarded as a place to live. Aix beats it by a mile.

We spent July 2015 at 48 Cours Mirabeau. The temperature was mostly in the high 90's while we were here. That would have been enough to ruin many a vacation. Not here. We could always retreat to the apartment's air conditioning after some time exploring.

The bed is full-sized. That worried us as we have a king-size at home. But it is an excellent bed and we slept well.

We did not have a car, but found the local Aix-en-bus pass more than adequate to get around including going out to the nearby countryside villages for wine fairs etc.

The crème de la crème in Aix-en-Provence

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently spent three memorable weeks in this gorgeous rental apartment. The moment we spotted the hand-made "Bienvenue en Provence" sign mounted by the front door, with a bright-yellow sunflower painted on it, we knew we were going to have a pleasant experience.

The ambience of this apartment, which seemed more like a "villa" to us, is très Provençal. We've never stayed in a rental apartment (in Paris, or anywhere else) that was more user-friendly, and so well-equipped with everything from kitchen appliances, utensils, cookware, dishes, and glassware; to linens, tablecloths, and other household supplies. We appreciated the many special touches by the owner, whose tastes are impeccable, because they made the place feel like a cozy "home-away-from-home" throughout our stay.

The location of the apartment, on the Cours Mirabeau, could not be more convenient. And we especially enjoyed the patio/terrace area, with its plants and shrubbery, because it made us feel as if we were surrounded by the peace and quiet of a secret garden. Security and access to the apartment complex are excellent, although we had no need to use the garage; and the owner responded quickly via email and/or telephone to resolve any issues that arose during our stay.

The only disappointment we suffered was when we had to leave our little "Shangri-La" in the south of France! We highly recommend this apartment, with no reservations whatsoever. Our heart-felt thanks go to Valerie for sharing her little piece of paradise with us, and we look forward to a return engagement in the future.

A Wonderful Week

  • 5 of 5

What a surprise to arrive at Chez Sutter in Aix en Provence and discover that not only was the apartment as lovely as promised, but it had more amenities than we would have expected. Valerie did not miss anything. The kitchen had everything needed to cook gourmet meals every night. There were maps and books in the living room that helped plan all of our day trips. And the living room was an extremely comfortable place to relax after a long day of tourist explorations. Most astonishing of all was the location. As other reviewers mentioned, there is not a more convenient location in all of Aix. Outside the front door were markets, numerous restaurants up and down Cours Mirabeau, stores, quaint boutiques, great delis, and anything a tourist or resident would want or need. Yet once past the door to the apartment building, it was silent as if we were in the middle of the countryside. We slept as if the city were not right steps away. You won’t find a better place to stay in Aix en Provence. And you will love Aix. The city is beautiful and there are innumerable places to visit using Aix as your base.

What An Amazing Experience!!!

  • 5 of 5

I can't begin to express how wonderful our experience was with the apartment that we rented, for two weeks, in Aix en Provence. The location & amenities couldn't have been better, the apartment was very well appointed and tastefully decorated, attention to every detail was impeccable and the owner was very attentive, responsive, informative and very hands on - which was a joy! We were incredibly surprised at how well thought out everything was, by the owner, so that her guests could truly enjoy everything that Provence, the Cote du Rhone & the Cote d'Azur have to offer! Everything was there for a picnic or a day at the beach, totes & baskets for shopping at the local markets or vases for beautiful flowers. Not to mention all of the wonderfully herbs, spices & seasonings, cookbooks, cookwear, beautiful courtyard setting, etc., etc., etc.! Having a private parking space in a secure parking garage was a definitely a plus for us. Living "like a local" was exactly what we were hoping to experience - and this experience provided that & even more. We made some wonderful friends! I think we are now perhaps a little spoiled, by this amazing experience, which is mainly because of this very caring owner, but we are hoping that the next experience will be equally as wonderful! We are definitely SOLD on renting an apartment or a home the next time we travel to Europe - or beyond - from this point on!!!
